Normally, the camera will be displayed when you put the car in reverse, or if you run your navigation display as a split-screen. If you want full screen reverse camera while driving, put a switch to feed +12v to the nav, but diode-isolate the leads so you don't turn on your reverse lights.

Why not just power the camera off a switched line then hook the reverse wire up to the avic. In split screen mode even going forward I can still see behind me with the camera.
