cntrylvr79
so.. what is the point of the HDD really, then? That's where all of the map data and library files are stored?
Flapjack
I think the best benefit of hacking the HDD would be to upgrade to a larger one. However, after reading Ducati's thread on it, it seems like switching HDDs doesn't work yet. Have you gotten any further along in finding a replacement HDD that will not lock up after you start driving?
ducatiboy
I think the best benefit of hacking the HDD would be to upgrade to a larger one. However, after reading Ducati's thread on it, it seems like switching HDDs doesn't work yet. Have you gotten any further along in finding a replacement HDD that will not lock up after you start driving? That would be a good benefit for replacing the hard drive. Unfortunately only one person had any luck doing so. But no one (to my knowledge) has tried replacing the stock 30g automotive hard drive with a larger automotive rated drive. We all tried replacing them with standard laptop drives. Does that make a difference? I don't know because automotive drives are expensive and small and if it doesn't work I didn't want a $200 40 gig laptop drive when I'm worried about filling my 120g drive in my current laptop. So I didn't take the leap and try it. No one else has either. That is one thing we didn't try. But then I don't store too much library music on mine and haven't even come close to filling it. So once I changed the background and boot up image, I didn't have lots of need to try anymore.
brock.travis
Plus, if you are really into music, you probably store all of it on your iPod. So its almost better to not mess with it and buy the $50 adapter for your iPod.
palacios
If we get the Z2 bypass figured out, I can see alot of people using this service to get a Z2 HDD ghosted onto their Z1 HDD. I know I probably will.
KillaICM
Really don't see why we have to pay someone to do it when we can just do it ourselves.
Donovan
Has anyone tired using this to unlock the drive?: http://www.rockbox.org/lock.html 40+ for a single unlock seems like a lot of money for something like that.
1G
has anyone had luck with the rockbox idea??? mentioned above??
Donovan
I tried it and it doesn't work. I ended up paying the 40 dollars to unlock it.
playtime365
The easiest thing I found was to buy the hard drive on Ebay already done. It took less than 10 min to complete the job and was only 115.00 for everything. The guys link is listed below: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=
tdicamillo
I paid $5.00 to unlock my original drive. This software unlocked the drive and left it blank. So I was unable to retrive my music library, But I can live with that. http://www.hddunlock.com/
vaernes
The paid HDD unlock service with saved data works for European Avics as well. Off course it works for the hardware, but it also helped me to back up my HD3-II image and use it to upgrade my HD1BT.
