JasonH
Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you have been able to use a cars OEM built in microphone with decent results on the AVIC? My new VW has a built in mic in the overhead console, but even after making a custom cable for it, it won't work on the AVIC. Any ideas or maybe something I'm overlooking? Maybe the factory mic is digital?

Maybe the factory mic is digital? I was wondering the same thing.. I have a GM Truck and most cars have the onstar mic aswell..and since I don't use onstar I was thinking of splicing in the pioneer mike to the onstar one...
JasonH
Well I just took apart the factory VW mic and it is digital...so it's not going to work with the AVIC.
avediswolf
In my Ford Explorer, it had Sync, so has the built in mic in the rear view mirror. I hunted down a wiring diagram, found the wires, and tapped into it. Seems to be working pretty good, no complaints from anyone on BT calls.
JasonH
Yeah the factory mic should work as long as it isn't digital.

troymdaniels
Ok, since I was wondering the same thing...how can you tell your OEM mic is digital or not (i know this is prob a dumb questions)? I just got a 2011 Nissan Juke and wanted to retain the overhead mic if possible.
Worldcloud
Lots of questions and few answers. I have a C6 Corvette w/o OnStar, but I purchased new A pilar trim to build custom tweeter mounts. The new pilar pieces have the 2008 OnStar mic with two wires: one red, one blue. We know the Pioneer uses a mono 2.5mm jack. I just need to know which wire should go to the tip of the 2.5 mm and which goes to the base. I've read that the OnStar mic is pretty good and I like the OEM look and placement. My initial thought was to dremel the factory mic to pieces until all that remained was the grill and then use a hot glue gun to attach the pioneer mic, but I like the concept of using the factory mic. I just don't want to short out my head unit in the process. My questions... If someone has done this, can they tell what wire goes where? Or Can I meter the wires for resistance (or anything else) and figure out the polarity? Or Does it matter, for example a single speaker wired out of phase still works and sounds fine, until other speakers are added- since there will ever be a single mic, this may be much to do about nothing.
