DeltaNu1142
I had an AVIC-X920BT, and I remember that the pixels aren't exactly "square," in that when designing a splash screen, I couldn't use the aspect ratio in the manual. Well, it appears that the X940BT is similar. The screen dimensions from the manual are 2592 x 1944, which is a ratio of 4:3. I cut a bunch of images to that ratio, and there are black bars on the left & right sides of the screen... So what is the real ratio? What should I use for custom splash screen sizes? DeltaNu1142
I've found it's closer to 8:5, but I'd like to know what it actually is... Hmm.
Ralpharn
Screen Size/Aspect Ratio: 6.1"/16:9 Resolution: WVGA (800x480)
ncmudbug
Here's what the owner's manual says about the size of splash screens: "Splash screen images should be used with the following formats: BMP or JPEG Allowable horizontal and vertical size are 2 592 x 1 944 pixels or smaller Allowable data size is 6MB or smaller" I have no idea what is meant by "2 592 x 1 944" Anybody have any ideas? Ralpharn
Software can handle images up to 2592 x 1944 pixels and size should be smaller then 6mb. But Image will be resized to 800x480. So what the point to make image different than pixel-to-pixel size of 800x480.
DeltaNu1142
I think it's 16:9. I have an image that I've modified that seems to fill the screen at 1280x780. That ratio works out to 16:9.75. I'll give 16:9 a try & report back.
DeltaNu1142
...just as I thought, 16:9 isn't quite right. My 16:9 images are letterboxed (black bars top & bottom).
DeltaNu1142
...just to close this out... my 1280 x 772 images seem to be perfect. That's a ratio of... uhh... 320:193. Sweet. The ratio is around 1:1.66, anyway. I've posted some samples (tags: Subaru, STi, rally) here (click for larger size):
grantpant
Can we just pull a splash screen that came on the unit and check its specs?

Ralpharn
Can we just pull a splash screen that came on the unit and check its specs? It is not possible yet. Testmode has no copy/paste function. But you can try to prepare picture in AVIC feeds and check it.
DeltaNu1142
Unless AVIC Feeds has been updated significantly in the past 6 months, I have no interest in using it. The functionality was poor when I last tried it, and the application would crash regularly (I was using an iPhone 3, though...)
iNS0MNiAC
Yes, I've noticed this too. Each pixel in actuallity is wider than taller. So no matter how it looks on your computer monitor it will always look a little squished on the AVIC unit. Maybe physically measure the screens dimmensions in mm to get a more accurate aspect ratio. Well if you really want to break it down. Since the screen resolution is 800x480 this would make it exactly 5:3 (which is the same as15:9 if you wanna compare it to 16:9)
