outcastrc
It really depends on what phone you have. If you head over to XDA to your phone forum, look for a tool kit. It makes most rooting chores easy.
stargate125645
It varies by phone. You would need to do research to find out.
Software Guy
Ok, I'm stupid but I can't find a donate link. I want to send my $50 as promised....not cheap out and get it from the store.
outcastrc
You'll want to purchase it from the store and then send the rest via donation. That way you get stable releases. Go over to Appradio forum . com and pm stackTrase who is the developer.

EvanVanVan
Just a heads up I just noticed this thread over on XDA, don't know if it'll work with this but some one should try it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927547 [APP] Turn screen off while MHL / HDMI mirroring / Downloading data

Switches off the backlight. Fine on an LCD, but on AMOLED it doesn't blank the screen.

EvanVanVan
I finally got a chance to test it, and turns off the screen on my Galaxy Nexus... Can't test with the AppRadio though because I don't have an MHL cable (I returned all the cheap ones I bought and cant decided whether to buy the official connectivity kit or modify a cheap one as kagronick suggested.) gbcobra
Anyone have any luck using ARLiberator on a rooted Razr running ICS with the AppRadio 2? I still seem to have the BT issues and ARLiberator never connects to the head unit.
texbuck
There's a couple of threads on this topic at appradioforums.com. The app named tasker can be your friend. Either I have no memory left or my method of pairing changes each time, but I have the best luck connecting the phone (both hdmi and usb) first, then starting ARL, then starting the vehicle. texbuck

Better link: http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1934495 Turning the brightness to 0 on an AMOLED screen does not blank the screen, just turns off the backlight. There have been apps out that do that for a long while. There is someone developing a new method of switching off the voltage to the screen which should blank it properly. texbuck
It's in the same link that you quoted. It's working on amoled phones, but some of them are having issues with turning the display back on. I think that issue is resolved as well texbuck

Ok, but turning off the backlight saves battery and keeps the phone from over heating, the main problems when trying to mirror MHL for long periods of time.
tls2000
There is no backlight on an AMOLED screen. The pixels themselves light up. It turns the brightness down to 0, which isn't the same as shutting off the backlight. BTW, this does not work on my S3. If the screen brightness is turned to 0, the phone goes into standby mode.
