ninja98r
I had replied to a post on a different forum but didn't get a response..... This forum seems to be more active I'm a bit confused on if I will require the CD-IH202 cable kit for the AR3 SPH-DA210? It is my understanding that the AR3 does not come with the USB extension cable that the AR2 did. This cable connects to Apple's digital AV adaptor via Lightening to USB cable. Those with the AR2 who connected iPhone 5 didn't need to buy the kit b/c the AR2 already had the USB extension with one end being proprietary to pioneer. All they needed was an additional HDMI cable. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'll need at least the Pioneer specific USB extension for AR3 on iPhone 5? Do they offer this cable separately or do I have to buy it via the CD-IH202 kit? I really don't need to pay for another HDMI cable and wire loom.... THX!
JazJon
No you don't it's an over priced package of standard cables! All you need is 1 - USB to Lightning cable. ($1.70 on dx.com) deal extreme free shipping! http://dx.com/s/iphone%2blightning%2bcable?Sort=PriceL2H You'll plug this between the AppRadio (usb port on pigtail) and the HDMI Lightening Adapter 1 - HDMI cable (only $2 on monoprice.com) http://www.monoprice.com/Category?c_id=102&cp_id=10240 You'll also plug this between the AppRadio (hdmi port) and the HDMI Lightening Adapter 1 - Lightning to HDMI adapter ($39-$50) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=897281&is=REG&A=details&Q= http://dx.com/p/8-pin-lightning-male-to-hdmi-female-adapter-data-cable-for-iphone-5-ipad-more-white-11-5cm-181709 You'll plug this direct into your iPhone 5. VBLUE42
I will caution not to purchase cheap Chinese versions of any cable for use with this system unless there is no other alternative. I can almost guarantee you will have serious issues.

You'll still pay less than what Pioneer wants for the "kit" though.
ninja98r
In response to: 1 - USB to Lightning cable. ($1.70 on dx.com) deal extreme free shipping! http://dx.com/s/ipho...e?Sort=PriceL2H You'll plug this between the AppRadio (usb port on pigtail) and the HDMI Lightening Adapter Are you referring to the "AppRadio (usb port on pigtail)" connection that the manual "displays "is required for Android phones? The AR3 did add a standard USB connection for android but does not include the USB cable that is proprietary on one end for iPhone.
VBLUE42
A Dollar.70 for a lightning cable is Chinese made and will for sure cause issues in about 90% of those cables. Don't buy into it. Spend the money the right way the first time and be trouble free.
ninja98r
I already have a good quality HDMI cable and a OEM Apple Lightening connector. Can I hook the USB end from the Lightning Digital AV Adapter to the Android standard USB connection on the AR3? If so will it not think my phone is Android? Not sure if that matters anyway... JazJon
There is only one USB female port on the AR, it's for both iPhone and Android as far as I know. (not sure why you call it "Android standard USB", it's just Standard USB)
ninja98r
There is only one USB female port on the AR, it's for both iPhone and Android as far as I know. (not sure why you call it "Android standard USB", it's just Standard USB) I called it "Android standard USB" b/c the Pioneer AR3 manual lists this as the connection used for Android phones. The manual says to connect IOS to the proprietary USB connection.
VBLUE42
The USB on the rear of the AR3 is meant to be used for software updates only. The multi pin square port on the rear of the unit is meant to be used with iPhone only with the CD-IH202. JazJon are you saying that you are using that USB port for iPhone and does it work as you would expect?
JazJon
iPhone 5 lightning works 100% without it since they use Bluetooth to control the iPhone 5. It's just a dumb power connection to feed the HDMI adapter. Maybe this will change in the future after apple releases the lightening control commands. The whole bluetooth thing is a work around pioneer came up with. That's why iPod control is gray'd out from the main screen with iPhone
VBLUE42
Yeah I understand that but I need to know if you are using the square multi pin cable or are you using just the female USB connector to run App Mode.
VBLUE42
let me rephrase, you are plugging the Lightning USB cable into the female USB from the unit to handle the USB requirement, correct?
JazJon
Yeah I understand that but I need to know if you are using the square multi pin cable or are you using just the female USB connector to run App Mode. By square multi pin cable you mean CD-IH202 righth? I never bought the CD-IH202 kit. I had it professionally installed (I was lazy) and I only gave them the AR3, HDMI Cable, Lightening Adapter, and USB-Lightning cable. There is only one USB port they could have plugged in right? I remember talking with the installer on how the CD-IH202 was a rip off for iPhone 5 users. Maybe this will change in the future after apple releases the lightening control commands. The whole Bluetooth thing is a work around pioneer came up with. That's why iPod control is gray'd out from the main screen with iPhone
VBLUE42
Yeah I understand all of that. Until now my understanding is you had to use the legacy 30 pin connector's USB portion with the Lighting cable in order to satisfy the USB requirement of the unit with the i5. This cable came standard with the AR2 which is what I have. I was convinced I would have to retain this cable from my AR2 when I purchase the AR3 in order to get everything to work properly. I now know that is not the case and you have some me some money when the time comes to upgrade. Page 7 of the diagram below is how I came to the conclusion that I came to before now. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/Manuals/Car/SPH-DA110_InstallationManual050913.pdf
