jaytrey
hey guys, i been looking for the z1 for a while now, and i sorta gave up and thought, shoot, i might as well just wait for the z2. however, everytime i check ebay 9which seems to be the only place to get them now) i see refurbished z1's. they are power sellers with high feedback and overall they seem like quality sellers. i was wondering what you guys think about getting a refurbished product. the price for them is 1500. any info would be great. thanks. djmixmac
I personally feel thats not a smart move. Unless its a well known friend or some sort. Such an expensive unit especially with a hard disk drive should be purchased from a well known pioneer seller/dealer. So ABESOFMAINE.com don't have any in stock? Thats where ducatiboy got one of his units and so did I for about 1500 new.
aznsmartass24
my broke friend bought a refurb D2 from ebay. It still works after 3 months. It is still a risk with refurbs though. I have never had any luck with refurbs. They work fine for a couple months then die.
jaytrey
are there any things i should ask the seller in particular? any points to make?
aznsmartass24
You probably want to ask them what type of warranties they offer. Also, dont buy into the fact that they say pioneer gives you a 1 year warranty. This is not true!!!! Especially if you buy it from ebay. In addition, if possible, find out what kind of defects the unit has. which i doubt he will be able to tell you.
madmanfrommars
If its factory refurbished from pioneer, it will probably be fine. It will have a 90 day warranty so that should be long enough to test it for problems.
whtcrxghst
I've never had any problems with Pioneer refurbs either
ducatiboy
Yah, factory refurb units did have a problem at one time, or they might just have been returned and couldn't be sold as new. But think of it this way, every Z1 that gets shipped I promise you is never turned on. It's assembled and shipped. It's never really tested before shipped cause it's cheaper to ship untested units and deal with the returns than test every single device. At least the refurb units have had a tech go over them and make sure they work.
jaytrey
so i'm assuming the general consensus is that it's ok? how does the price look to you guys? should i just hold out for the z2?
aznsmartass24
hold out for a Z2. The unit is new, and you get the 250 dollar software update for free! Thats 1750 right there for your refurb Z1. Wouldnt you rather have a brand new unit for a little less than 2k?
jaytrey
well isn't the z2 msrp 2200? if that is the case, wudn't the z1 be the better choice? do you really think the z2 will be out for less than 1900?
aznsmartass24
i got my Z1 for 1500 when the MSRP for the Z1 unit was 2250. If you dont buy if from an authorized dealer, you get it at wholesale price. The thing is that you dont get the 1 year pioneer warranty. Is 750 dollars really worth a worthless 1 year warranty that makes you ship it to their factory at your cost?
jaytrey
what do you think the z2 will go for then?
aznsmartass24
supplies will probably be short for the first couple weeks the Z2 is released. So they probably will sell for MSRP, even at unathorized places.Wait 1 or 2 months and prices are sure to drop significantly at UNATHORIZED places only.
04gotgoat?
So if you buy a new Z1 from an unauthorized dealer you lose the 1 year warranty. The refurb offers a 90 day warranty. Does this mean the refurb has to be sold by an authorized dealer also for the warranty?
