DP3343
Ah, the day Car Play is released App Radio will be obsolete and likely will go the way of the Doe Doe. By the time Pioneer realizes it and kills AR Car Play will have matured and likely have far more support through the third party dev community. Pioneer never wanted to do all the heavy lifting anyways. They have only sold 2 million radios in the 3 years they've been doing Appradio. They'll kill those numbers once users can have Carplay and android auto.

DP3343
I just wish there was a Carplay head unit. Like an Appradio for Carplay. So it does nothing else. Basic Bluetooth streaming and radio, but with a capacitive touch screen and a bargain bin price. Lord knows once Carplay is out I'm barely going to touch any of the other features of my NEX. Â I'll keep my hdmi connector when this is all done for non Carplay things, like google maps or waze, but I'm done with Appradio mode and the built in apps the second Carplay is out. VBLUE42
I just wish there was a Carplay head unit. Like an Appradio for Carplay. So it does nothing else. That will probably be called "App Radio 4 with Car Play"
DP3343
That will probably be called "App Radio 4 with Car Play" And it will have identical internal hardware to the AppRadio 3, but the AppRadio 3 will never get an update.
douger
summer is almost over. Whats the hold up?? GEEZÂ Â Pioneer expected to release the NEX units at the end of February. When were you actually able to buy yours?

They are keeping their cards close to their chest. Honestly it's a strategy I prefer to pioneer's. Hopefully they will wait until their product is actually ready to ship before they announce anything.
DP3343
New article about the Sonata from yesterday. http://www.automotiveitnews.org/articles/219239/hyundai-sonata-owners-will-get-carplay-when-its-re/  Interesting tidbit is a quote from one of the people from Hyundai.  â€œIt’s not ready,†Shon said. “Apple is in control and working on it, and it might be weeks or months. It will be a software update for owners.† It's unclear if he means the Hyundai implementation or Carplay period. Judging by the fact that Apple is the one "working on it" and not Hyundai engineers I'd hazard to guess there's something still half baked about carplay. Some unforeseen issue.
Spankey
Right...I know there were issues with Apple Maps developers leaving. This could have delayed the rollout. Could be anything. Bottom line is this is most likely an Apple issue and they don't want this getting out half baked. In the meantime Pioneer owners are caught in the middle since the latest firmware is tied into Carplay.  We are obviously not going to see this in July. Still think the release of iOS 8 at the earliest.

koneill
Consider this: Â http://community.spotify.com/t5/forums/mobileforumtopicpage/board-id/Bugs/thread-id/1812/page/1 Â I recently switched from Rdio to Spotify. With Rdio, I was ALWAYS able to use my car's SWC to skip tracks (backwards and forwards) and my HU ALWAYS received and displayed meta data. With Spotify, two thing happen consistently and randomly: 1) loss of SWC controls and 2) no meta data sent to/displayed on HU screen. Â Pandora and iTunes Radio worked as consistently as Rdio did (and they still do), so between this point and the 100s of long-running reports of SWC and meta data not working consistently with Spotify for iOS, I'd say it's highly likely that critical issues with 3rd-party CarPlay launch apps are also contributing to release delays. Â I'm not suggesting it's all Spotify's fault, as I'm sure there are similar issues with other apps (both 1st- and 3rd-party), but I stumbled upon the above Spotify thread and thought about how something like this could make for a disastrous CarPlay launch. philfrompa
Well considering it is august tomorrow.....yeah. Not today that is for sure. I saw a few notices about Apple anouncing the new iPhone Sept 9th, but no mention of Car Play. I have my doubts about it being released anytime soon. Â Phil
VBLUE42
Apple has already announced Car Play and released it so there is nothing for them to further announce or release.
KarNPlay
Apple has already announced Car Play and released it so there is nothing for them to further announce or release.Exactly. Apple originally announced this fourteen months ago as "iOS in the Car" at the 2013 WWDC. Apple renamed it "CarPlay" five months ago at the Geneva Auto Show, and Apple released it as part of iOS 7.1 around that same time. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_in_the_Car In other words, Apple finished its work on CarPlay several months ago. Now, it's up to the automakers and aftermarket manufacturers to implement it.
