Xhorder
I don't have an iPhone, so I don't care at all about CarPlay. Is there any reason for me to update the firmware? I'm pretty happy with the unit as it is. My major annoyances are the light gray text on SXM when a song isn't playing, and the 15000 song limit for USB drives. thanks
epsilonkore
There is another thread discussing the "other" changes in the NEX update. One right off the top of my head is the ability to purchase map add ons from naviextras which didnt work before. There are some cosmetic changes in maps as to how traffic is handled as well... joemamma1954
From what i have read, it is a CarPlay update. The only other change was mpeg-2 is supported. If everything is working to your satisfaction, no need to update. Read all the posts on issues with the update, before you decide.
epsilonkore
For me, the traffic differentiation, and alerts on route are working better than they ever did in the original firmware. That is enough that I would upgrade if I didnt have an iPhone. Though, I know some say the sorting of mp3's from external usb drives resets everytime they power up. That could be very annoying. Here is the other thread where the list is expanding http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/39624-other-firmware-tweaks-in-106/
feinberj
There is one other non-Carplay feature added in the 1.06 firmware update. If you press and hold the Map button, it puts the rear camera on screen. It saves you the trouble of digging through the menus to show that camera onscreen.
Kura
Aftrr pressing map button to activate rear camera it shows black screen. There is only usual information that the view can be reversed but no view from camera. Any ideas what could be wrong? Of course camera works well when selecting rear gear so it isn'r connection problem I think.
dspin
The camera is probably wired into the reverse signal circuit. To power the camera not just trigger it. I had to wire my camera that way. If it was powered all the time the night vision properties of it would over saturate the camera. So if I press map rearview camera is just a black screen. Kura
So it is somethng that I shouldn't worry about? Or maybe I should change polarity settings from battery to ground?
