D3 text to speech?

En route to the required destination, the Avic-D3 uses turn-by-turn voice prompts (including text-to-voice functionality) to call out turns and the names of individual roads.

 

is this true the D3 does say street names when turning? or does it just say left and right like i previously thought?

It does not call out street names, it doesn't have the capability. It can however call out highway #'s, but not city streets.

You'll need a z1/2 for the street names.

please any examples... does it say turn right in 50 feet? but on the screen will it show main street at the top? or something like this

Yes it'll say something like this. In one quarter mile make a right turn. then it'll say Right turn ahead. The screen will show an arrow indicating the turn and at the top it displays the street name.

Not to flame you or anything but c'mon guys, ya'll have to be realistic. It's a give and take situation. For the money people are paying for the D3, you get a pretty good deal. You can't expect for this system to have everything for only $850....If you want all the bells and whistles you need to get a Z1, Z2, or the Kenwood DNX7100.

Not really. I'm no Garmin Fanboi. For $800 the D3 + BT + Sirius + USB could be worthwhile.

If you want to watch movies on a 3.5" lcd, you might have very low standards.
