steve310
Thanks for the tips. I was actually looking at the heat activated glue on select products the other day, I didn't even see that vinyl. I went to an upholstery guy around here, to see how they would do it, and he said it would be impossible to stretch that over the bends and that it would need to be seamed. He quoted me 150 bucks to do it. I think I'll give it a try with my 3 dollars worth of vinyl...
jimmy303
If you have a bit of patience and a decent heat gun, you can do this yourself. Try a few little pieces of the vinyl to get a feel for how it can be stretched and formed, and work your way from there.
steve310
Finally finished this project... I ended up having the top done by someone. He seamed it, which I didn't think I was going to like, but it is growing on me. He only charged me 55 dollars too, which I guess isn't bad. I wanted to say that I did the whole thing myself, but I would rather have it look good. I covered the sides myself, that was pretty easy. The drivers side was a little difficult because of the cut-outs I made for the 4WD shifter. After I bent that shifter, and pulled the center console, everything went in nicely. Even the wiring, because the old radio was right there, I just had to pull it under the dash. Now I just need to make myself some backgrounds. And Im still having trouble locating a VSS wire. The stuff I found on Directwire isn't working. Thats for another day though...
PaisanNYC
Holy shit Steve that looks amazing! See what a little imagination can do! And don't worry about the seaming/stitching, reminds me of a Ford King Ranch edition truck
cntrylvr79
Great job. Seems look fine too.
jimmy303
VSS should be green with a white stripe at the instrument cluster harness. Not bad, padawan. A fine installer, should you make.
CBRJimmy1KRR
That does look good!! you have plenty of clearance with the 4x4 shifter?
steve310
That does look good!! you have plenty of clearance with the 4x4 shifter? Thanks! I had to bend it at like a 45 degree angle, but after that it fits/works fine.

chi2
WOW! that looks great, and you have given me hope for my 1994 GMC pickup.. Why didn't you try to mod the dash area, where the factory radio (1.5 DIN?) is? The place above the AC/controls. Thanks for the updates! Jon
steve310
I think the GMCs may have gone to the newer dash style a little earlier than the Chevys did. Mine had the little radio, not a regular din width. It was too narrow to fit anything in there.
