keithisjonesn
I have the N2 and have done all the mods necessary to watch a DVD while driving so the VSS is grounded. When I put my used unit in my vehicle, I reset the calibration data. After 3 months and over 2,000 miles I have all the left and right turn meters full but the distance meter is still 3/4 complete and has been that way for over 1,000 miles. My GPS antenna is on the inside of the front window next to the windsheild. It reads fine while I'm on the highway but when I went to Atlanta, it didn't know which road I was on and jumped around constantly. It is currently in Hybrid mode and want it to get to 3D mode and more accurate. Has it taken this long for anyone else?
whtcrxghst
Your VSS wire needs to be connected to the car's VSS wire, not grounded. You will not get 3D hybrid til the VSS is connected properly
installermarc
what type of vehicle is it in, maybe we could help with color and location.
installthis06
why in the hell would you ground the speed sense wire?
jimmy303
I think he meant the e-brake wire. At least I hope.
cntrylvr79
Hey jimmy weren't you the one that ranted about people incorrectly calling the parking brake an emergency brake
keithisjonesn
Well the VSS wire is rather Grounded or not even hooked up. I have a 2001 BMW 530 so I don't know what the VSS wire is on the car. From the forums I saw that if you had the VSS wire hooked up on the N2 that it would not allow you to view DVD's while driving. That the VSS wire was a second fail safe for the parking brake wire. Thanks for any help install guru's
whtcrxghst
The VSS wire has NOTHING to do with watching movies, its based on the parking brake and the gyros in the unit. Hook up your VSS wire, clear out the calibration settings, and then let it recalibrate and your accuracy should improve
jimmy303
No, I ranted about people calling it a parking break. It's a brake. Not a break. Breaks are what happens when your brakes don't work.

jimmy303
Not sure of the 5-series, but on a Z3 of the same year, I found a black with a white stripe in the radio harness. Happy hunting!
Reach
bumping this... does the black/white wire from the radio harness work as a VSS wire? Can anyone confirm? I have a Z4, and the radio does change volume as speed increases.
jimmy303
Check it with a multi-meter, with a friend, much safer...
