stypert10
Ok, so i have a D3 on my WRX, ipod integration, bluetooth, xm, everything works yada yada yada, but i also have a PS2 in my glove box with a power inverter for the PS2. The problem is when i have the inverter turned on, my speakers make a buzzing noise. The noise is present whenever the inverter is turned on regardless of the PS2 being on or off. The buzzing does not increase or decrease with acceleration or idle, it does get louder when the volume is turned up, but that's it. So, i dont know if the inverter is interfering with the D3, speakers, or the PS2, anyone have any ideas? its very annoying, any help is greatly appreciated!
ryda4l5
is your power invertor connected via 9V cigarette lighter or directly to the battery. i would try n connect it straight to the battery.
HiFiSi
is your power invertor connected via 9V cigarette lighter or directly to the battery. i would try n connect it straight to the battery. I second that. power to the inverter directly from battery, and ground the inverter to the chassis.
stypert10
its directly connected / hardwired to the battery with its own fuse and ground to the chassis...
HiFiSi
Well... hmmm. If it's got a solid power supply and ground, and it causes interference in the D3 when it's turned on... I can't think of anything but possibly the inverter is bad. Try buying a new one and hook it up and see if the it also causes the noise. Buy it from somewhere you can return it, so if it doesn't fix it, you can return it.
autobot152
Due to the circuitry in power inverters, they make very "noisy" power. Unless you purchase a high quality ($100+) inverter, you will still have the line noise you are experiencing. If you have a PS2 slim, you can pick up a dc adapter for it. That will elimate the excess line noise. I picked mine up from ebay for $20.
HiFiSi
Here's a few. They are all the cigarrette lighter type, but all you would have to do is pull the wires out of the cigarette lighter adapter if you wanted to hardwire it. It's much more efficient than converting your car's DC current to AC with the inverter and then back to DC with the PS2's power supply. http://www.ciao.co.uk/Joytech_In_Car_Power_Adapter_12V_for_Slimline_PS2_Console__6554622 http://www.consoleshop.com/product.php?cat=0&page=1&productid=16280 http://www.modchip.com/ps2/caradapterorder.php http://store.richspsxparts.com/slps2carad.html http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4183750 http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Compact-Road-Power-Adapter/dp/B0007PHO8Y
stypert10
ok, i'll replace the inverter with a new one. if that doesnt alleviate the problem, then i'll go with the DC adapter for the slim PS2. i'll post here to let you guys know how it goes, thanks for the suggestions!! HiFiSi
Honestly, you shouldn't even bother trying a new inverter. The PS2 car adapter is where it's at. It takes up a lot less space, it's cheaper, and it doesn't have to convert DC to AC and back again. I'm sure that would eliminate the noise as well.

autobot152
Yup, just go with the DC adapter. It fixed all my line noise issues! I also tried an expensive power inverter ($100+) and it still had the same noise, plus it was HUGE! returned it and ordered the dc adapter and have been noise free ever since. I would also ground the rca shields if you havent already.
deviljon
just wondering, will something like this work fine? http://cgi.ebay.com/12V-DC-CAR-LIGHTER- ... dZViewItem
HiFiSi
Yeah... I linked to 6 of them in my post up there, too. Pretty much any playstation 2 car converter will work. The only thing I would worry about with the one you linked to is down in the item description, it says "brand may vary"... I would steer clear of any ebay sellers who have something like that in the item description. You never know what the hell you're gonna get.
HiFiSi
I would go with this one. Sure, it's a little more expensive (or not as cheap, depending how you look at things) than the others, but the quality looks a little better as well. Plus, the cigarette lighter adapter part is separate from the voltage converter part which makes it easier if you wanted to hard wire it in rather than plug it in the cigarette lighter. http://www.modchip.com/ps2/caradapterorder.php
deviljon
aw crap i've already bid on this one! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=013 how difficult would hard wiring be? any write-ups that can be found?
