Does burn DVD's work with the AVIC-Z1??

Recommended Posts

I have played burned DVD's in the Z1. Actually I make copies of all the DVD's before playing them in the car (I don't like taking original's in the car). I also usually re-auther them to just have the main movie too.

But I have had good luck with RITEK or RIDATA disks (usually just DVD-R's). I order them from

Nero works well, if you are buring files, you need to select DVD Video, not data dvd. Data dvd will work but you need to adjust the data settings, DVD video, the settings are already correct for maximum compatibility.

And if you are doing DVD to DVD, also load DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and you can use DVD Shrink, works pretty good too. Check out www.mrbass.org for some more info and tutorials.

The best software to use is free...It's DVDShrink and DVD Decrypter/DVDFAB Decrypter. It works great! I've been using it for two years and have very few problems. Nero's burning engine is what is used to actually burn the DVD once it is encoded and "Shrunk" or fit onto a 4.5gig DVD.

You will have to try different DVD brands and then when you find one that works buy 500 of them because they change quite a bit. I have about 6 different brands right now that I will try burning the same movie to this weekend and report the brand names and what worked/didn't work.

i use dvd decryptor too it works like wonder.. and it's free...

for dvds... shop4tech is sort of expensive and their cheap disc is ... well... cheap...

i use these guys http://www.dvd-supply.com/dvdoladlawhi.html their double layer is cheaper and regular 4.7 works everytime too.

4 years ago when I started buying dvd's, they were the cheapest and I just kept ordering from them. They aren't too bad. Ritek's for $0.36 each.

Thanks for the DVD supply place, they aren't too bad, for 25 of them, shop4tech is actually cheaper. But if you order 50 or 100, you save $0.10/disk. I don't know if I would call that "sort of expensive". Actually I just checked the shop4tech price vs the dvd-supply price on 16X media and 100 of them shop4tech is $0.45 each (for riteks) and $0.59 each for non-riteks. They probably work, but they don't seem that much more expensive.

Not that I'm a "shop4tech" groupie or anything, but they don't seem that much more expensive (sometimes they are even cheaper). But it's always good to have another place to order something. I also just got a good deal from www.newegg.com on dvd media too.

One thing to note is that while the N1 seemed to like a lot more media, the Z1 does not play the same DVD-R disks that worked fine in the N1. I therefore just use DVD+R with a DVD-ROM booktype.

This allows you to trick any DVD player into thinking that you've inserted a factory pressed DVD-ROM disk, not burned media.

Just Google "booktype" for more info and to see if you can set your burner to auto-booktype your DVD+R media. I can tell you that all the new BenQ drives support this natively. BTW, booktyping only works with DVD+R and DVD+RW/DL

Using booktyping I was running a copy of my N1 data DVD I had copied and burned myself onto a DVD+R DL. The N1 had no clue it was a burned copy.
