rockhardnupe7
I know this may be a silly question but is there any way to detach the face of the z1. Has anyone found out a way to hide the unit for security purposes?? Thanks
Antsmusique
I've called almost every car audio shop in the Bay Area and they said it doesn't come off at all. What I did was I had Tap Plastic make me a matching cover for the front of the deck so that no one can really see it. It's temporary, but it's the best so far. At the sametime, my windows are tinted @ 5% over the stock 35%. I'll keep you posted as I find new things and ideas. Good Luck.
hellmaster
I'm interested in some kind of cover also. What did they make it out of and how does it stay on?
Antsmusique
We used was a black ABS plastic. It's fully durable and covers the entire deck. The mounting kit for my Z1 on my Highlander leaves these really open slots on both sides of the install. At first I thought it was just a horrible install, but it was a blessing in disguise. When in motion or being used, I made side fills out of the scrap plastic to fit exact. To cover, I used the slots to fit in the cover since I had the cover heated and molded to my specifications. Between the the cover and the mounting kit, I put a piece of felt to prevent scratching. The bended wings hug the kit and go in deep enough that it just naturally stays on. But velcroing particualr points would be the best option. I will upload my pictures of what I did some time this week. Check it out when you can.
rapayn1
I'm also interested in some way to protect the AVIC-Z1 from prying eyes. In addition to that, it would be nice to be able to lock the unit out. Since you can have a lot of personal information stored on the AVIC-Z1, it would suck to have your home address and lots of phone numbers on the unit. For now, the best we can do seems to be to NOT put personal information on the head unit, to have an alarm installed on your automobile, and to maybe consider using the following: http://www.usace.com/products.htm The combination of a car alarm and glass that isn't shattering easily, should make for a good deterent. However, make sure you have an extra rider on your insurance policy that covers your equipment. Some of us only driving around in $21K cars, that have $14K worth of audio and video equipment. :-) Better to have all of that insured.
hellmaster
I added a $2000 rider to cover the Z1, Ipod adapter, bluetooth (when I get it) and installation. With Geico it cost me $18 for 6 months.
bongus
Same here...it was easy to deal with GEICO. They asked how much and that was that.
Passat 05
.......and to maybe consider using the following: http://www.usace.com/products.htm ........
Good idea, but my guess is that it's not clear enough for the windshield and if you only put it on the doors the scumbags will just try the windshield next. I've contacted Ace to see what they say.
