That value is in km/hr, so 128 km/hr = 79.5 miles/hr. Use a number big enough that you won't go over. Some have suggested 256, but I suspect that you could go bigger. This is not a bit flag like I think it was first assumed to be.

I changed mine to 256.0 and things work perfectly.

btw, 256 kph = 159 mph so I think I'll be good.

If I go over 159 mph I hope my ticket is ONLY for operating the DVD

I have been trying to perform this mod. I am not able to find the data.zip file on my f500bt. can someone please help.

Posted Dec 04, 2008 · 18:14 UTC#155

Cool thanks. Will update mine soon.

*THESE DIRECTIONS ARE COMPLETE YOU WON'T GET LOST UNLESS YOU'RE A LOST CAUSE

*Your parking brake wire (light green) has to be grounded. You can ground it to the black wire coming off the black power harness that connects to your stock radio ground connection, the cigarette lighter black ground, the vehicle chassis, etc.

*I updated my Avic to 2.0 firmware, its up to you if you want to do this because all you're trying to do is replace the "data.zip" file. Or if you don't want to upgrade you can follow steps 1-4,6 to access your Avic and copy/paste the original file from your Avic to SD card, open it up on your computer, edit it as mentioned below, put it back on your SD card, then follow steps 7-15. On how to Upgrade your firmware search avic411 or go to:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/ ... e+Download

1. Make sure you are a registered member of avic411 or else you won't be able to see the files you need to download.

2. Download the Testmode.zip file folder from:

http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic. ... sc&start=0

3. Use Winrar (people have reported problems with Winzip) and open up Testmode.zip

4. Extract BOTH Testmode and MiTACAP files to your desktop by highlighting the folders and clicking the "Extract To" tab on Winrar and selecting "Desktop".

5. Get a hold of the data.zip file, you will need to edit it THROUGH Winrar. If you upgrade to the 2.0 Avic Firmware you can find the data.zip file in the firmware folder you download. You can download the firmware off Avic 411 or go to pioneerelectronics.com. Once you have the firmware downloaded open it up with Winrar. Click on F-Series Firmware Update -> LPUE080 -> APL2 -> iGo -> RIGHT CLICK data.zip and select "View File" -> Click project_config -> Click pioneer.ini (opens up in notepad)

Next, scroll down till you see:

[pioneer]

parking_break_speed=16.0

hide_logos=1

Change the "16.0" -> 128.0 , then click "file" "save". You will be prompted File "pioneer.ini" was modified click YES. Also click YES to "data.zip" being modified. Now extract "data.zip" in Winrar to your Desktop by highlighting the folder and clicking the "Extract To" tab on Winrar and selecting "Desktop". You should find it inside the "F-Series Firmware Update" folder by clicking through it.

6. Copy and paste the three files that should now be on your desktop (Testmode/MiTACAP/data.zip) to your SD card.

7. Insert the SD card into your unit with your vehicle powered off.

8. Turn your key to the vehicle ACC on position and your Avic should boot up in WinCE mode.

9. X out of whatever screen pops up till you get to the desktop.

10. Triple click to get into "My Device" is what i believe its called the first icon at the top of the desktop on the Avic.

11. Go into your SD card, highlight the "data.zip" file, click "edit" "copy".

12. Click back, now go into the main Avic drive in "My Device", i think its called flash something...i'm not sure the exact name but you can't miss it.

13. Similar to how you navigated through the firmware to find "data.zip" to change it, click to get to it, LPUE080 -> APL2 -> iGo

14. You should find the original "data.zip" that's on your Avic right now in there.

15. Now click "edit" "paste" and click "Yes to all" to replace the original data.zip with the one that you put on your SD card.

16. Reboot your Avic and you should be good to go.

* I tried describing all the steps by memory to the best of my ability, in the sequence i performed them, and to their fullest detail. i should be charging ppl for this post...lol...hope it helps... 8)

can the links in the FAQ point to this post please . . . would only make sense to link to a complete guide.

Also, is there any way to tell if your parking break is grounded or not without looking behind the unit? If it was not connected, would the stock unit be functioning normally??

Posted Dec 06, 2008 · 23:17 UTC#157

I made a flash drive with the zipped 2.0 update in it that I already have installed.. I just updated the speed count, but for some reason the unit wont boot in to win cE

Posted Dec 07, 2008 · 03:29 UTC#158

still have problems with this mod. Followed the instructions to the finest detail, but regardless, as soon as I go over 16km/h ... I get the "Parking brake wire is not grounded properly..." error and my settings get grayed out until I slow down to under 16km/h.

I pulled the data zip off the HU and the .ini file says 256.0

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Posted Dec 07, 2008 · 04:54 UTC#159

nm... got it figured out.

I didn't use Winzip... I used PowerArchiver, which has always served me well in the past. I don't know what it is, but USE WINRAR!

Should have picked up on that from the get go.

cheers

quick question, does this Mod work without grounding the parking break?

Thanks

Posted Dec 08, 2008 · 19:53 UTC#161

no, it will not work without the grounded parking brake.

The system will still look to see if the parking brake is "on" to show anything on the screen while moving. It will then look to see what the max speed it can show anything based on the pioneer.ini file.

the whole point of this mod is that you do not have to rearrange pins on the wire harness itself.

I see, so only thing I have to do is ground that wire?

Thanks

I've read through this entire thread (more than once) and it has alot of very useful info. I had a question as a nubie. My HU was installed professionally and I asked him to ground the parking brake (which I read here) because I plan on doing the software bypass. Right now, when I get to about 10 mph the "parking brake not properly attached" message comes up, does this mean it is successfully grounded? I saw someone who asked this question but I didn't see an answer. My next step is the software bypass but before I do that I wanted to confirm that the parking brake is grounded. If this isn't the case I plan on taking it back to the installer to see about getting it done correctly or do it myself if I don't have to take the dash apart.

It should be grounded correctly. I too was wondering if my parking brake wire was grounded properly. It was fine! I'm sure yours is, too!

My Avic-f90bt popped up with the same message. That "System has detected improper connection of the parking brake lead" notice disappeared forever once I installed the software bypass. 8)

Alright, I read all the posts :( but I did learn alot. I am capable of pulling off the software side of this, but the hardware I am not sure. Just bought a 09 Malibu for my wife with the F700BT installed. Problem is that I can only access the functions we are all after with the parking brake applied. Does that mean that the parking wire (which I am told is light green) is not grounded? What is it connected to right now then? Do I need to just clip the wire and ground it to the power harness? Or should I just get the shop that installed it to ground the parking wire, with some story about how my wife never puts on the parking brake? Yes, the information so far leads to the fact that it is not, but I have to ask before I go back Friday...

Do I need to just clip the wire and ground it to the power harness?

Sweet Jesus No!

Ground the parking brake wire to the black ground wire; basically tie the two wires together by solder or automotive splice connectors. Take the other end of the parking brake (the end going to the parking brake switch) and coil it up neatly out of the way, wrap electrical tape on the end so it doesn't ever accidentally make contact with anything.

Beating a dead horse here, but... From where do I pull the light green ground wire from?

Ok, when you pull the radio out there will be one light green wire; the end running to the parking brake is running off in the dash somewhere. Clip the wire about 12 inches from the harnass. Tape up the end going back into the dash; you won't be using it anymore. Now, take the end still attached to the harnass and splice that into the black cable labeled "ground"

com ca?

^^^

Alright, looks like I have enough info to do it myself if the shop won't do it on Friday! Thanks!

Posted Jan 02, 2009 · 16:56 UTC#170

can I just connect to any ground on the vehicle??

thanks

Posted Jan 03, 2009 · 01:59 UTC#171

Today I went out and grounded the light green parking brake wire and did the firmware edit, worked like a charm. Thanks alot... Now if I can only change the size and color of clock... And why it seems to say kph on the speed, even when the setting say mph...

Posted Jan 04, 2009 · 08:46 UTC#172

Very easy mod to do, thanks all for the info

Posted Jan 10, 2009 · 07:25 UTC#173

I almost dont even want to ask a question. BUT I got my F90BT into test mode i then got all the files out of the "flash drive". Onto and storage card.

For the life of me i cannot find the data.zip in the "APL2" folder

My "APL2" folder which contains: "iGo" thats it! and in the "iGo" folder there is NO "data.zip"

So i downloaded this firmware version 2.0 file here :http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18977 which has the data.zip file. If i edit the values in this data.zip folder for the parking brake thing and put it on my storage card will it work for my F90BT or not.

If not what do you guys suggest. My SD is only 1GB so i have to download stuff off of the F90BT in 2 parts.

Posted Jan 12, 2009 · 00:05 UTC#174

this is the same problem I have run into...hoping for some insight! Thanks in advance.

Posted Jan 20, 2009 · 09:33 UTC#175

probably wont have the .zip extension on it. my f900 didnt have the extension showing. displayed it as a file that had no associations. it was in the iGO folder for me. just copyed and pasted.

i wrote a step by step from memory a couple of hours ago. its in the Avic F-Series Bypass thread on the front of this forum right now.

try that, see if it works.
