Japan just had another earthquake yesterday, 6.7 magnitude off the coast but sounds like it still shook things up pretty good. I think that's 4 over the past week including 3 very large ones so expect more delays.

I'm really pissed at Pioneer also for the reasons everyone else have already mentioned but my guess is this is one application set up specifically for generating passwords for the updates listed on the site.

Nothing will stop working if this goes down, nothing will crash, people won't be get stuck in their cars and no safety features will be affected. Just no updates.

As pissed as I am having these cards in my hand and not being able to do anything with them that type of system has about the lowest criticality any system can especially compared to 1000's of other systems they have that generate profits, do employee payroll, compliance systems, etc. It may not even justify having redundancy configured vs. the cost it would take (which is a lot more than just setting up another server some where).

It REALLY sucks for us but I'm not sure I can even fault them for it since I've made similar decisions myself...

Redundancy . . . .system with "lowest criticality" .? For what . . . password generator and very small database . . a piece of cake . . You can put it even on a single floppy and if it is necessary, upload to PUSA guys if they do not have it or they have been on the vacation. Again do not blame Japan . . they have been dealing with earthquakes successfully for years . . show me their site which is down right now . . comeoooon please

PUSA technicians a....s failed to be there during the weekend . . now they are struggling . . . somebody should be fired for it!

Pioneer is aware of the issue and is working on it.

They hope to have it resolved today.

I spoke to em around noon. A real Tech. They said later in the week now. Not Monday, like they said Friday.

oh snap. If I had oly not installed the first one. It really is worse than what I had. Oh, well.

Is that site still down? I'm having cataract surgery tomorrow, so prbably won't be doing "computer" work for a day or so. Thought I might be able to get my "installer" to do the upgrade for me, though.

Hi cranbers,

How did you get activation password for your v3 update

Just explain procedure and password length . . if you do not mind. I am struggling

to get what I have paid for (site down for days) . . Looks that you have been a lucky one.

Sincerely, Bob

Looks lke we aren't going to have much else to discuss here until (possibly) the end of the week  .

God for bid they just gave us a link to download the new update & Maps after we purchased them online. They could of still took security precautions. No, lets make this more complicated for the honest consumer! Seriously, PIONEER, GET THIS SHIT FIXED NOW!!!

Posted Aug 17, 2009 · 23:33 UTC#113

Yeah this is BS! I do feel bad for a part of japan having a earthquake but as far as all the news I could find it wasnt as seriouse as some may think. Im thinking we are dealing with a algorythim problem or a problem with the security of the 3.0 update. Somthing is wrong with this picture, these server problems are so easy to fix and I think we are all going to get another update becuase of a security leak or somthing. These are just sugestions and I could very well be wrong but I dont think every thing adds up here, just think outside the box and remember no one at pioneer reallly knows whats going on. Come on do you really think pioneer of USA doesnt know whats going on besides a possible earth quake? I called and talked to several people and you will find no one will actually say the earth quake was the cuase of the problem. '

just my thoughts

IT WORKS!!!! FINALLY!!!! I GOT MY PASSWORD!!! AMEN!!!! IT WORKS!!!

I got threw to a tech. was on hold for 5 mins. Said that, "They dont expect the server to be up till later in the week. And that the server is based in Japan, and the area has been hit some some sort of Earthquake."

I purchased mine with Paypal. I think im gonna file a dispute on the transaction. See what happens. This is crap.

I got through today also and was told it might be a few days and that the server is in Japan.

I worked in IT for 21 years and find know that a big company like this should have a redundant (co-loacted) system, but it appears they did not. They probably were cutting cost as much as possible like most companies these days.

I am disappointed that I can't get my password now but I don't want to sue or shoot anyone.

I would be fairly certain that many of Pioneer's IT staff were on-call and got called but there are probably bigger problems to deal with. Also we have no idea what problems they have. Maybe they loaded backup and something still did not work correctly. I have had that happen before. When it did I had to rebuild the server then just load the website data, which was probably a days work.

Things happen, take your meds and be patient. Go have a few beers or something. Complaining here may make you feel better but it won't bring the website up any faster.

-------------------- Update ---------------------

Right after I submitted this I saw the above post, tried it and got my password.

My avic-900bt is now dead

Please people I beg you not to update yet if you want to have a radio working! I got the password as the site went up 20 minutes ago and my worse fear that there was another problem maybe right. I got to 3% and my sd card failed. I tried resetting the radio as I was talking to pioneer tech support on the phone and now its dead. It wont continue unless it reads the sd card and for some reason it wont read it. Get your update at your own risk! I will keep you all posted and I have terch support trying to figure this out but its doubtful since its so late. Im so mad now. I got a 2009 vette with no tunes, how would you feel?

god bless to those brave enough to try it with sucess

Posted Aug 18, 2009 · 00:14 UTC#120

Sorry bro, I really hate to hear that, seriously, after all this and that's what happens to you. I am already in my car updating, at 35%, so far so good!

Same thing here. I got to 3% and it said error, try again. It does this about 3 times, then says to call pioneer. Resetting the radio doesn't help. It boots up and ask for the SD card. If I put in the 1st card, it says wrong card. If I put in the 2nd card, it retries 3 times and says call Pioneer. I was able to transfer the entire SD card to my computer without any errors. I am going to put it on another card and see what happens. This is less than impressive.

i think its because it was the wrong password because I got it too and noticed this at the bottom of the page...

The Password shown above is unique and can only be used with the Device Number (Pioneer navigation unit) and Media Number (CNDV-700HD) you entered on the previous screen. Once you leave this screen, the password CANNOT be regenerated.

It is highly recommended that you print this screen or write down the Password. This Password is required to continue the CNDV-700HD software installation.

For detailed instructions on how to continue the CNDV-700HD software installation, please see Step 2 in the Operation Manual for Updating included in the CNDV-700HD package.

The F900 doesnt use this 'CNDV-700HD ' I bought and have the CNSD-100FM and im afraid the password I got will screw me like they did you

I tried to put the sd card #2 in my pcand it doesnt detect it so Im guessing some of these cards are bad. What ever the problem its total BS and ill be calling pioneer tommorow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to try several computers to find one that would see the sd cards. Im currently copying the files over to a new sd card wish me luck.............................................

Posted Aug 18, 2009 · 00:38 UTC#125

I had no problem putting the files and folders on another card, but it gives me the same results. It accepted the password and started the installation. I don't think it was a password issue.
