It's 10:30 AM on Monday in Japan now.. let's see how long it takes to get this site working...

Edit: Sorry it's 10:30 AM not 9:30 AM

I'm curious why everyone thinks the server is in Japan. Pioneernaviationupdate.com resolves to California. Not Japan by any stretch of the imagination. http://www.geoiptool.com/en/?IP=63.83.249.25

You obviously don't work in the IT field.

Haha, that's awesome...There are days when I wish that were true.

Doesn't matter where the front-end web server is, the data entered is being validated (at least to see if you entered your device number in hex) by the server in California but the back-end database could be anywhere in the world. Apparently it's in Japan and there is only one.

Yep, that's very true. If they are in fact running the database on a separate server (especially if it's in Japan), then it could very well explain the issue.

Guys, it's the weekend, 90% of people have Sunday off... You can't reasonably expect anything IT-based to get fixed over the weekend.

If it's not back up Monday, I'll use my resources and find out what the problem is.

Jason, Monday has come and gone in Japan. Would you mind please? This is beginning to wear even my patience. I appreciate whatever you can find out. Thanks.

Wow, what a great idea, overload a system that's already not working just to tick off the poor workers there.

You guys are a real piece of work, it's all about you isn't it?

10:30AM - Still down, and the correct phone # is 1-800-Pioneer, I just called and guess what, their system is down as well.....

Posted Aug 17, 2009 · 15:18 UTC#85

This is ridiculous. I'm very tempted to file a chargeback on my Visa card.

Posted Aug 17, 2009 · 15:52 UTC#86

Up until 8:45 AM, the message was that they were closed until 8:00 AM but...

Pioneer just updated the voice line to report that the website is having issues but that we should continue to try repeatedly throughout the day on the off chance that the site comes back up.

Nobody live picks up that phone number :(

I got threw to a tech. was on hold for 5 mins. Said that, "They dont expect the server to be up till later in the week. And that the server is based in Japan, and the area has been hit some some sort of Earthquake."

I purchased mine with Paypal. I think im gonna file a dispute on the transaction. See what happens. This is crap.

Their system was down on Friday at least!

They are doing NOW something that they are supposed to do THREE DAYS AGO!

So, do not blame earthquake in Japan . . it was ONLY extremely bad business practice ..

Posted Aug 17, 2009 · 15:58 UTC#89

so your gonna blame pioneer for a natural disaster?

its a radio - i'm sure you can live a few more days with out newest firmware/maps - you've gone this long whats a few more days

So u mean to tell me that Pioneers gonna put all there eggs into one server, and not have any control over it on the side. I doubt it.

Posted Aug 17, 2009 · 16:02 UTC#92

The problem was from our Friday. Which means if there a day ahead of us. Its Tuesday over there....

Posted Aug 17, 2009 · 16:02 UTC#93

Let's go ahead and say this...

1. They should have had backups.

2. They should have IT staff on call around the globe for a company of their size.

3. This should have been resolved already.

But listen here for a moment people. They didn't/don't have these things set up. That's not going to change right now. That sort of thing takes a lot of effort, time, money, etc. So step back for just a moment please and think about what you are asking. You are asking people, yes living breathing people, to make miracles happen. The server is located in a natural disaster area, they are dealing with bigger issues than your software update right now. There are families who have lost homes, people who have lost loved ones, infrastructure of a major world economy being pulled out from under them.

Is your software update really that important?

prob all their small eggs, im sure we (avic users) are prob a very very very very smaller percentage of their revenue, so i guess puts us on the bottom of priority list. and the quake prob just made it even lower :?

apparently to some....

I think that a lot of the harsh feedback is a case of "the straw breaking the camel's back". Lots of issues and problems along the way to get to where we are now (a device with lots of possibilities) and this just seems to be one more speed bump that is perturbing those of us that got stuck halfway through the update process.

ya i guess if i was heading on a trip and started the update and ended up with no maps id prob be a lil pissed, but not enough to try charge backs ect.

Posted Aug 17, 2009 · 16:37 UTC#98

PUSA means Pioneer USA and we are dealing with PUSA guys.

Again DO NOT BLAME natural disaster (unfortunate and sad event) for such bad business practice.

The activation generator and anything else is ALWAYS backed up on some sort of media and NOT at only one place.

PUSA was closed this weekend and nobody was willing to move back in the office . . I have called PUSA and they said that

" ...they are closed (even tech dpt) during the weekend . . . server is down . . it is what it is . . please wait until server is up . ."

SO WHAT ELSE TO SAY . . this is actually some sort of PUSA earthquake.

still down, now im kinda getting pissed.

a month of waiting for the update, now waiting since friday to FINISH this update.

This will make me NEVER buy a Pioneer product again. $ .02

Posted Aug 17, 2009 · 17:04 UTC#100

I agree, its kinda petty. But I have given them a fair chance on everything. I was alway partial to Alpine. Everything i have owned, Alpine. But they are always short on features. So i finally decide to drop the dollar and get something Pioneer, seems nice, lotsa features and etc. Everythings seems to be a big hastle though. Im trying to give them a fair shake. Over 1 month, hell amost 2 since i purchased this update. Hoping to fix some of the BS with this unit. Didnt want to hack, ill spend the money and do it right. Now after waiting so long, i get it in my hands and cant even update it. This is not Pioneer JAPAN. Why am i dealing with Japans problems? I think like whats been stated. Its just the straw that broke the camels back.

Wheew...Vent over.
