I have just picked up a DNX6960 from my local 6Ave Electronics for $798. 2 Year warranty intact. The guy said that they are offering that for the price of the old 6140 (Non Excelon) as a substitution since they put the 6140 on sale this week but were out of them. I'll get this thing installed around 11 tonight and put up some pics and impressions tomorrow on the KW forum.

I know that you're also very active on the KW forums and had a 9140. Did they ever fix the street name issues and what not with them? Did the 7140 (Non voice interface) have the same issues?

I believe so but I haven't ;followed that unit sense I got rid of it.

Also, did the 9140 have lane assist? I don't care about Junction view, just lanes.

No lane assist or junction view.

Wow, this is kind of weird. I in fact just yesterday, switched back to an X910BT from the Z.

Wow, where have I been... You ditched your Z? I can't say I haven't thought about it when amidst certain feature "frustrations" lately either, but really you got rid of it huh?

I'm not too up to speed on the different "engines" driving the nav interface on these different series of units (F, X, U, Z, etc.), but is there any possibility that the Z can have that "better" interface after one of these said upgrades? I've really been pretty ticked off with the look, feel and usability of the navi on this unit so far. Makes it even worse when I'm fumbling through it and my wife says... "I could do that in about 3 seconds on my TomTom..." Sad part is... she's right. It looks better too.

Yep, having a tone of fun too.

Well we will have to see but I highly doubt it. The Z runs completely different software then the F/X series and I dont think Pioneer is going to make the same mistake they did with the F series by offering us the boot files to get into the file system of the Z series.

Gotta say... the Z has been a disappointment. I sure as hell hope the update beefs it up a bit in some way. Otherwise, I'll be getting out of this unit. And considering how disappointing it's been so far... I will CERTAINLY be looking for my update on Isohunt.com... not Pioneerelectronics.com.

Based on the manuals that have been leaked of the new units it doesn't appear anything will change for the navi.

Just to update: I installed the Kenwood 6960 last night and brought it back today. The Garmin was great, but the multimedia and menu system were just as crappy and clunky as they were 2 years ago. Actually a bit worse in some ways. Just horrible actually. And all three "skins" look like ass. I would have gladly demoed the unit on a wall in a shop first but not one of 10 big car audio sellers in my area even had any Kenwood navs on their walls. Just a couple of X series from Pioneer and a bunch of DVD double din head units.

I'm sticking with the Z for the time being, but I would have no problem going back to an X or F series in a heartbeat. Still thinkin' about it.

EDIT: VBlue, how often has your iPod dropped? Also, what kind of iPod are you using. The iPod that I have that used to drop about 10-15% of the time is a 30GB iPod Video 5.5G. That's really what is holding me back at this point I think. The Z has never required me to have to open my glove box and fumble with wires while driving.

I think the only unit that might offer you satisfaction is the 9960. The apparently changed the entire AV interface and it appears to have a lot better Garmin software this time. Who knows weather it will actually work as it suppose to though.

I actually have all the dealer literature for the 2010 Kenwoods given to me by one of the many shops I visited. The 9960 does look a LOT better and has coverflow, etc, but the street price of that unit is probably going to be somewhere around $1700 with an MSRP of $2000. A bit too much for me.

At this point I expected to be gushing to everyone why they must have a Z... now instead, I'm trying to convince myself to not ditch it myself. Pretty disappointing. Expected a much higher level of satisfaction from Pioneer's "flagship" unit.

I long for the days when my D3 was the shiznit.

Maybe you should consider what I did. Head on over to the hacks and mods section of the F and X series forums and take a look at some of the mods that are available. I stickied most of then at the top of the forum.

Posted Mar 06, 2010 · 17:43 UTC#112

VBLUE42, just to confirm.... I'm about to dive into the X mods on the forum, but that will take me hours. I have a couple quick questions:

I can't seem to find my way to a manual for the X920.

1. The X910 is the last unit made that supports modification, and the new Z110, Z120, and X920 run the same crappy nav software, right? I would confirm myself on the 920 but can't find the user manual @ pioneer com.

2. Also, if the F910 has dual zone video, is there no hack for the x910 to do the same if they are the same unit? Sounds like software.

That's not a big deal, as I can run a media player if needed.

Basically, I'm about to buy a X910 unit unless the new X920 has the search POI along route function. Otherwise, X910 it is.

Thanks all for those who posted answers for me.

Nevermind. Was able to find the info I needed on the other X forum.

Except for the possible dual zone video hack question.

Thx.....

What do you mean you cant find the manual? The name of this thread is New Avic-X920BT and Avic-Z120BT User Manuals!!! Everything you need to know about what the unit is going to offer is in that manual. Anyway, there is not dual zone on any current Pioneer nav unit except the Z series. The F910BT is the EU version of the X910BT and also has no dual zone. The hacks for the F/X series only pertain to the navi software. There are no hacks for the AV software. So the answer to your question is no. There will be no dual zone on the X series.

I should have been clearer. My mind is moving faster than my typing....

I read a couple blurbs on this forum that Pioneer, or another company, made a mistake in releasing the dual X920/Z120 manual, and this one wasn't the *official* manual.... and might not accurately reflect what was really going on in the unit/s. I should have been clearer.

I went to Pioneer hoping they would have the *official* X920 manual listed there right on the X920 page as this unit is out, or nearly out, but not so.....

So my bad.

Posted Mar 06, 2010 · 20:10 UTC#116

Also, thanks for the info.

I've decided to buy the X910 and a good media player, as I read the X910 makes you burn certain video files to DVD to play them, and I'd really like to never burn a DVD again, ever. Plus, I'd like NAV and video at the same time. This will allow me to stick with Pioneer, too. Yay!

Time to put the Z3 up on eBay.

I guess this means my wife's brand spank me new Z110 is going up on eBay, too. Wish I had more free time to do homework before I bought the unit.

Thanks to all who posted help.

Well, then if that was not the official manual, then I guess there is still some hope for a few improvements to the nav functionality. *fingers crossed and expectations low*

Posted Mar 06, 2010 · 20:56 UTC#118

The manuals on this page will be the official manuals.

Posted Mar 06, 2010 · 21:35 UTC#119

Yeah, I Pioneer just didn't want those manuals out so soon and they were trying to put the s**t back in the goose.

I'm excited now to get a 910 and see what's on the road in front of me instead of waaaay behind...

Oddly enough.. I saw that the newer 120BT didn't mention a file size restriction on USB... versus the 110BT(16GB)....

I think that was the only difference I saw...

Sounds like the Z2/Z3 has a few more features than the new Z. It think I will keep my Z2 for a while until things get a little better.

Huh? The only two features that the previous Z's have that the new one doesn't is Vehicle Dynamics view, and a HDD... And IMO a HDD is old technology, and is hardly a feature... Flash ROM/RAM is where we need to be going...(still just a little too $$$ ATM)

Every time I jump in my buddy's truck(the one I sold my Z3 to), I can't help but to realize how painful it is to operate... It's also ugly with all the writing all over the face plate...

Although, I must admit... If I didn't have an IPod, the Z110BT would be borderline useless to me...

Posted Mar 12, 2010 · 15:56 UTC#123

Forget the entire Pioneer series from the Z110 and the X920 on, but there is an improvement over the Z2.

The x910 uses the newer ipod a/v interface (same as the Z110) and has a better navigation system.

I don't see Pioneer improving their navigation system for years, if ever, so you might as well pick up an x910 for the mean time.

The x910 appears to be an upgrade as far as the navigation goes. It uses a different navigation engine than the Z1,Z2, Z3, and features things like the ability to search for POI along a route. The ipod interface is also lightning fast.

My Z3 goes on eBay today....

Just found the Norwegian Manual over at Pioneer :)

And here in europe it will be F20BT F920BT F9221BT and so on :)

The greatest update for me will be the Map, it have so many holes today :( and the unit is nearly 2 weeks old :(

Posted Mar 16, 2010 · 15:39 UTC#125

There doesn't appear to be any new features added to the navi software in the new units. Just an upgraded AV interface.
