I just ordered one. It's a Bluetooth receiver that attaches to 30 pin iPhone style docks.

So theoretically you can stream audio from your device to the doc without having to plug it in. Might work as a patch until things are sorted out.

Hey everyone just saw this cable that supports analog/digital...

http://www.cablejive...hone-5-Kit.html

That's the same funcitionality that the apple adapter offers with audio only coversion from digital to analog for audio.

So tonight I finally remembered to try taking the iPhone 5 with its included lightning USB cable out to my Jeep. I took the 30 PIN Pioneer cable that comes with the AppRadio 2 and unplugged the USB cable (where you would insert a thumb drive for updates). I then plugged in the Lightning USB cable.

There was a bit of excitement because the iPhone 5 beeped and was at least receiving a charge. So charging works. Next I noticed the iPod, Apps, and Pandora icons lit up. So the AppRadio detects there is a smartphone connected or that a device is drawing power... which ever.

But it was downhill from there.

  1. Launched iPod. AppRadio said "Ready" that was it.
  2. Launched Pandora. AppRadio said "please launch the Pandora app on your smartphone...." Then disappeared. I launched Pandora on the iP5 and it didnt detect there was an accessory.
  3. Launched AppRadio app on iP5. Pressed Apps button on AppRadio. The iP5 AR App never detected accessory and changed to the "paired up" screen. The AR App however did give me the WARNING screen. I pressed OKAY and got the black screen.
  4. Launched YouTube on iP5 and played a video. Typically, I can go into Advanced AppMode and watch a video from YouTube, Netflix, etc... But screen on AR2 remained black and the video only played on the iP5.

So... although I did not expect magic to happen, I did at least hope for audio to output over the USB portion of the cable. However the fact the AR2 detected the smartphone and lit up the icons does provide SOME hope. Given iPhone 4 and 4S still work via iOS6, we know we didnt LOOSE any software functions. Its just a matter if the hardware can be supported.

It sucks we have to wait another couple weeks on the Lightning and 30 pin adapters/cables... But maybe there is some hope *some* functionality will carry though via the iP5. To me, at least if one or the other (iPod/Pandora vs Advanced App Mode) work... that at least gives us something to get by on until a better iP5 solution comes along. Until then, I am stuck always packing my iPhone 4 along for the ride (which I only use for work calls) everywhere I go.

Hey djchad (or anybody else),

i just read this comment on Appradioworld, "I just received my adapter. and with the latest app i can tell you that everything works except video out. so music works and steering controls work as well so pioneer doesn't use ipod control or already found a way to override it. however there is still nothing official released from pioneer or apple about the video out cables."

He doesn't specify which AppRadio he had, but can somebody confirm that with the latest App, does the iPod still work? Album art and track info? At least that would be some good news.

I plugged my iphone 5 into the app radio 2 with the apple dock connector. It charges the phone, it knows that the app radio is connected and prompts for you to accept the connection.

Pretty much only pandora and the ipod work,

Pandora plays and controls fine from the deck, the artwork displays. Im not sure if there was some background app going on , but every so often the video would go blank, you have to reselect pandora for it to display again, and the controls were lost. You have to disconnect the phone and reconnect to regain the function through the deck.

No video displays with the adapter.

appradio has the newest firmware and app is most current.

Pioneer has updated compatibility with the new lightning adapter http://www.pioneerel...e Compatibility

Great update... so on an x940 no advanced appmode or video. All else is same as before...

That's makes iphone5 a no go for me... if I upgrade I want more not less than I have today

Apple is still suppose to release additional cables that will support video out. So advanced App Mode may yet still be salvaged. But at least being able to play my music off my 64gb iP5 and Pandora is better than my limited 8gb iP4 that I use for work. I can still use the iPhone 4 if I need GPS or such. But my majority use is music.

In the end we will be better off if wireless control and outputs are used, such as Wifi airplay or Bluetooth control via MAP or SPP.

Hadn't check the forum for a couple of days, I just got my adapter and wanted to confirm that only Audio Works just as the chart here describes. To all of you blaming Apple, I think Pioneer has a lot of the responsibility here. My unit is not more than 2 months old and by the time it was only a month old it was already obsolete each time I asked Pioneer they would answer with some meaningless message dodging my questions. I still give them the benefit of doubt and hope the sell a cable and give a firmware upgrade to support the latest tech.

If one reads Pioneers Appradio2 description it says "Access to the future! A key to AppRadio is the flexibility to seamlessly add features and capabilities ... The AppRadio is designed to grow with your smartphone, and has the potential to support updates for future hardware and versions of the operating system." I wonder if one can put a class action lawsuite for false advertisement, as I said I'll give them the benefit of doubt I still have 10 days to return my unit but I think I'll keep it and trust Pioneer on this one though through their support I totally should have lost hope by now.

Has anyone tried to use the new Lightning to HDMI connector to get video out or advanced app mode working yet?

Posted Nov 03, 2012 · 03:00 UTC#67

Have these cables shipped yet?

most of people asking for iphone 5, etc etc, does anyone think about a kind of wireless connection ( even with an option hiden behind the dashboard )

to connect and fully use iphone 5 ( even iphone 4 )

most of time we hear about this new process called "WIDI" wireless display...or even with dlna protocol or something like that...but in the windows 6 of appradio...???

has anybody thought about this idea ? because keeping the iphone plug/unplugged, etc etc.... in long time use...the connector wire will be "out"...and with iphone 5....for sure apple, didn't let that point left like that...sure they think something

(maybe only to use their apple tv or airplay module, but i'm not against buying one, if it allow to use the iphone on the appradio, "wirelessly")

Copied this from my post in another thread:

DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE LIGHTNING DIGITAL AV ADAPTER FOR THE IPHONE 5.

Just updated to the latest firmware and I also recently upgraded my iPhone 4
to the iPhone 5. I had the iPhone 4 plugged in with the radio's 30 pin
connector for music and video until my av adapter came in the mail. Some
results below:

iPhone 4 with new update FW v8.30 and AppRadio 30pin connector

iPod music - no

iPod video - no

AppRadio Apps - no

Pandora - no

Charging - yes

iPhone 5 with new update FW v8.30 and lightning to usb cable plugged into AppRadio usb

iPod music - no

iPod video - no

AppRadio Apps - no

Pandora - no

Charging - yes

iPhone 5 with new update FW v8.30 and 30 pin to lightning adapter cable plugged into AppRadio 30 pin

(same results if using 30 pin to lightning on 30 pin cable to AppRadio usb)

iPod music - no

iPod video - no

AppRadio Apps - no

Pandora - no

Charging - yes

iPhone 5 with new update FW v8.30 and lightning digital av adapter with standard HDMI cable

iPod music - yes (iPod icon is unusable but music plays when selected from iPhone)

iPod video - yes

AppRadio Apps - yes

Pandora - yes

Charging - yes (with lightning to usb cable plugged into AppRadio usb)

iPhone to AppRadio screen mirroring - yes

My iPhone 5 is on FW 6.0.1, jailbroken with evasi0n with AT&T

I don't understand why Pioneer is charging $60 for an HDMI cable that
they call the IH-202. I bought a cheap HDMI cable off ebay for $2 and it
works fine. The HDMI port on the back of the stereo doesn't have much
room for HDMI cables that may have a larger plastic end.
