Thanks.  That's good to know.  As for the jailbreak, it did alleviate some of the headaches regarding the nag screen and also helps the AppRadio app restart sometimes automatically.  I have found the the split screen mode has made it more convenient to get in and out of apps and back to the map then constantly hitting the home screen and then hitting the apps button.  You'll see this when you switch from 2D / 3D / AppMode (which is the split).  Try that if you haven't already.

I don't always get the black non touchable screen but I have a few times.  That's when I need to kill all apps and restart the whole thing over.  Again with the jailbreak I run background kill all apps which makes it faster and less dangerous when driving but it's basically a big buggy pain in the ass.  Oh well...

Hoping in time things change and that Pioneer and the developers don't give up on it.

I have to quit the apps on my iphone and relaunch. That tells me its on the app developers problem more than Pioneers (I am looking at you Waze, iHeart,  DashCommand *which also drops bluetooth connection to odbII frequently when switching between apps*). With the exception of CarBrowser (which is Opera reskinned) all of the Pioneer apps work quite well.

My problems with AppRadio on the x950?

The above Applications having issues (thats the App developers problem)

All of these apps work find on the App Radio so its not developer related. It appears to be App Mode related on the navi units.

Which goes back to our original discussion at the top of this page regarding two different development teams.  The only thing that can fix this is a working firmware upgrade from Pioneer and I'm sure they're still out in left field wondering what went wrong.  As for now, I will stick it out but if things don't improve, I'm going with your original setup someday by shoving an iPad in the dash!  All problems solved!

This thing should be called CrappRadio.  I did the update today and

cannot tell you how unimpressed I am with this.  Why the Ipod controls has

to be an app is absolutely ridiculous.  Takes forever to get this thing

going.  Between all the connecting and allowing it is very

cumbersome.  I find myself constantly restarting the AppRadio app on the

phone since it gets stupid when too many things are running and constantly

hitting allow.  Now I know there is a jailbreak (I think) to remove this

allow screen but I'll have to investigate it more.

Once it is running, however, only half of the apps I loaded on the phone

actually work.

  1. Car Media Player – Works
  2. CommuteWX – Works but no animated radar
  3. Inrix – Works (but flakey sometimes)
  4. Waze – Works (can be flakey too)
  5. iHeart Radio – needs input from phone and doesn’t

    resize properly

  6. MotionX – only works from phone – not head unit
  7. Car Browser – flashes for a sec and goes away –won’t run
  8. Best Parking – only works on phone – doesn’t show on head unit
  9. Calendar – works
  10. Maps – works

Note that location services need to be on for some of these

apps to work and Pandora and aHa work as a source under MODE.  How I wish the damn iPod functions worked as

a source under MODE.  I may sell the iPhone

5 and switch back to a 30-pin cable to use with my iPod Touch 4th

Gen. and forget about this.  I’ll give it

a few more weeks to see if there is another update to correct some of this junk

but I’m really pissed off for spending money on the phone and waiting for this

crap to be released.  I wanted to get

cutting edge technology I guess and I all got was cut!

So there was an update for Car Browser.  As a result, it now works on the X950BH.  The only thing that doesn't work is when you play a video from either ESPN or Youtube (for example).  It says unsupported.  Safari using AppEx will play videos just fine but then again there is the offset issues which I can't figure out yet regarding touching the left and bottom portion of the screen (nor will Safari be forced into landscape mode but thats an AppEx issue).  As for all the other apps that didn't work, they still don't becuase they 1) still haven't released an update or 2) the update still hasn't fixed the issue.

CarBrowser and Waze works fine for me now that the developer updated the App to address the x50 issues. Now its time for DashCommand to be fixed and all of my apps will behave properly. It has a resolution shifting issue after it has been operating for  a few minutes, or if I receive a text on my phone while using it, that leads me to believe that it is a software fixable issue as well (Waze used to do this but now works fine after the last set of updates rolled through).  IHeartAuto seems to work, but I have a problem agreeing to the legal agreement on the headunit. Its not viewable on the phone when unplugged so I cant get around it that way. Again, seems like a resolution/overscan issue that Waze overcame somehow... so its just a matter of time.

Waze always seemed to work for me but iHeart Radio doesn't show me the login on the head unit and then doesn't size properly (I'm about to delete it - waste of time).  Best Parking doesn't load on the head unit and Motion X does load on the head unit either.  With AppEx, I'm able to run Google Maps which is great but unfortunately there's an issue with inputting text on the left side of the screen as well as the bottom.  This is an AppEx issue in relation to the AVIC units I believe.  I have the exact same problems inputting text when using Safari.  Anyway, INRIX, CommuteWX, Car Media Player, and sometimes Waze are the main apps I use primarily anyway and they all work (for the most part).  Hopefully there will be some more future updates and bug fixes.  I was surprised to see Car Browser finally work but I was dissapointed in the fact that it won't support playing any media.

Are you using iHeart Radio or iHeartAuto? The later one loads to the x50 screen with screen input capability, but on mine has a problem where I cant tap the accept button since it is off screen. Best Parking works on mine, and I dont use Motion X. I really wish Navigon would provide Pioneer AppRadio support :/

Posted Aug 13, 2013 · 22:39 UTC#108

iHeart Auto (which launches iHeart Radio on the phone).  I can't see the "Sign Up / LogIn / Maybe Later" screen either and then when I click it on the phone, the screen doesn't resize properly on the head unit so it's a waste of time for me.  Not sure how Best Parking launches on yours since we have the same head unit.  It launches on the phone but the head unit remains black (like Motion X).

I really wish Garmin would provide Pioneer AppRadio support but they're in bed with Kenwood so probably not.  I wish I could get a trial copy to see if how it would work with AppEx.  I don't want a cracked version or want to shell out $60 if it doesn't work.

Posted Aug 14, 2013 · 00:20 UTC#109

I have tested a cracked version and besides the fact I couldn't get maps for it, all the controls worked very well on the unit using AppEx.

Thanks for the info.  I really want a backup to the built in Pioneer Nav which isn't all that much to be desired.  I like Google Maps and that works fairly well but entering text is just so troublesome with AppEx and the offset issue with the AVIC series.  I guess I would do through the same issues with Garmin via AppEx as well.  Anyway, good to know.

What is the version of your iHeartAuto app? Mine is 1.2.0 . My version of Best Parking is 1.8.77 and I have not purchased the premium featured version ( I have used this app maybe 3x's since I got my head unit). I double checked yesterday, and it does load on my x50 screen just fine, airport is selectable and it pulls up suggestions pretty quickly.

Oh and my iPhone5 is not jailbroken and thus I am not using any AppEx features to get my results.

Posted Aug 14, 2013 · 17:03 UTC#113

I have (had) all the same versions on my X950.  iHeart wouldn't size properly and Best Parking only loads on the phone and the radio screen remains black.  I originally tried these apps BEFORE jailbreaking and they didn't work then.  After doing the JB, they still didn't.  As a footnote, you have to JB in order to use AppEx.  Main reason for doing that was to get rid of that AppRadio allow prompt each time on the phone.  My iPhone 5 is at v.6.1.0 I believe.  Unless you have a different iOS version loaded, everything else sounds the same so I can't figure it out.

I am aware of AppEx ;) I have jailbroken and loaded it several times in the past, I just cant have it on my primary phone for security reasons at work. I am running iOS 6.1.4, there have been a few modifications to the iOS from 6.1.0 to 6.1.4 but none that I know of that would allow Best Parking to work on mine and not yours. If you use Exchange mail, I recommend you at least upgrade to 6.1.2 or better just for the battery life enhancements. 6.1.4 fixed a speakerphone quality which I found to be a big deal (since I used speakerphone constantly). Then again, anything beyond 6.1.2 has multiple fixes to stop jailbreaking... has 6.1.4 been broken yet?

According to this website it has but who knows how accurate it is.  I haven't tried it and I'm going to remain at v.6.1.0 for a bit longer anyway.

So I spent an hour on the phone with Pioneer today and had them check the following apps that don't work for me on the AVIC-X950BH.

Best Parking - only get a black screen

Sygic USA - only get a black screen

Do any of these apps work for anyone here that is using either a Z150 or X950?  I obviously have the one and only Pioneer firmware update (from last April) on the head unit and the latest "supported" app on the iPhone but they did say to make sure I have the latest iOS version loaded which of course I don't and can't becuase I'll lose the jailbreak and will no longer be able to get AppEx installed.  I can't find a jailbreak yet for v.6.1.4.  Anyway, just need to confirm that someone else can run these apps and if you can run them, can you please tell me what iOS version you have running?  I'm using an iPhone 5.  Pioneer said they tested these apps for me on an iPhone 4, 4S, and 5 with an AVIC-X950BH and an AVIC-Z150 and they all worked.

Thanks.

I doubt your issue is iOS version related. Pioneer will always tell you that simply because they don't have an answer. And reported issues with app mode with the AVIC and AVH units is wide spread on this forum so I don't think you are the only one having the problem. The bottom line here is: Pioneer simply cant troubleshoot software issues affectively.

Posted Sep 10, 2013 · 03:56 UTC#118

I doubt it too but it did make me wonder 'cause epsilonkore did say Best Parking worked for him and he's also using an iPhone 5 with an X950BH but I still have my doubts.  My iPhone is at v.6.1.0.  His is at v.6.1.4.  I'd love to bring mine up to v.6.1.2 but not sure how to do that w/o jumping to v.6.1.4.  I'm not too iOS savvy to figure out how to update the OS w/o doing it OTA.  I would try to go to v.6.1.2 and then re-jb but still I wonder if that would fix it.  Anyway, I was hoping to get feedback perhaps from someone else who has the AVIC to see if it did work for them and check what version of iOS they have installed.

As for Pioneer: It took 30 minutes to get someone on the phone and then it took them another 30 minutes to see if two apps ran on two head units with three different model iPhones.  :x

Sorry you have your doubts about it working on my unit with my phone. Had friends over last night working on other AppRadio issues, and a buddy of mine loaded appradio and best parking (fresh installs, he had never used them before) and Best Parking launched perfectly on the screen, just as mine does. No blank screens.

I meant I had my doubts about Pioneer's findings (referring back to VBLUE42's comment).  I know it works on your unit and not mine so the only thing that's different between us is that you are using iOS 6.1.4 and I am at 6.1.0.  I just need to figure out how to get it to 6.1.2 via the computer and not over the air since that will bring me to 6.1.4 which is not jail breakable at the moment.  Unless I have a lemon for an X950BH, then the iOS should be the only difference and could point out why I'm not seeing these apps work on my head unit.

I'll do some digging when I get home to see if updating to 6.1.2 is still possible.

Cool...thanks!  I haven't been able to find it yet myself but I'm sure there's a way someplace.

I just found this... not sure how to install yet until I download it but I'll let you know (unless you can find something a little more elegant).

-Thanks.

Well I did some research and see that those IPSW files should work.  Just not sure if I can do it w/o putting the phone in recovery or DFU mode but I guess it will be trial and error.  Going on a trip soon so may not want to risk bricking the phone (which I doubt) but I will probably try this a little later than sooner.

Posted Sep 12, 2013 · 16:31 UTC#125

Here is another update, I just loaded the GoldMaster (production version that will be released to the public) of iOS 7 on my phone last night and now Best Parking gives me a blank screen. I DIDNT load from my iCloud backup, it was just a fresh install on iOS7 Best Parking and a couple other apps I have been doing compatibility checking for work. I may be able to get it to work by restoring my iphone from iCloud along with my old app settings files.

Either way, there is definitely an issue with the app that can pop up for whatever reason. My x950 and z150 both were showing the app with iOS 6.1.4 and now a fresh iOS7 with the app gives a blank screen. Same phone, same AVIC's just different loads of the software.  I am currently re loading my iPhone 5 with iOS7 and a cloud restore... I will tell you if it works after that.
