Was there a version change of Best Parking between the fresh install and what's backed up on iCloud?

Posted Sep 12, 2013 · 17:40 UTC#127

Same version as my previous post, 1.8.77 from March 5 2013.

Ok so it's probably iOS7 that broke it then.  Keep us posted.

I may wait to update the OS in my phone to 6.1.2 since I'm going to be on a long road trip soon and don't want to risk breaking anything.  I'll just leave all things status quo for now and then up the OS when i return.  I really wish I could bring it up to 6.1.4 but there's no official tested JB yet although I've read that is has been exploited but not released.

Restoring from iCloud did not fix it, I now have a blank screen using iOS7. It is interesting though, mine worked fine on 6.1.4 which isnt THAT different from your 6.1.2, and I am pretty sure my 6.1.2 worked just fine with Best Parking. I am going to try a few other options tomorrow when I have time. Now that my dev work for my job is done (at least for this week) I can take a look at some of the mechanics behind this app and DashCommander.

I will say this, since doing the iOS7 upgrade my TopHeadlines app seems to be less crash prone versus before in iOS6. It would crash on first launch EVERYTIME, but the second launch would work fine.

I'm at 6.1.0 now (which is making me think why I could never get that app to work).  I'm going to go to 6.1.2 since it's the last posted jail break available for now.  Do you recall having 6.1.2 at anytime when using these apps?  If so, I'm assuming they worked for you.

Ok, I'll report back when I have the time to do the upgrade.

Did I document it as working with 6.1.2? No. I dont remember it NOT working and then it suddenly working with 6.1.3 or 6.1.4.     6.1.2 thru .4 happened quite quickly, all were issued because of battery power issues dealing with Exchange protocol and in a subversive way they also added some anti jailbreaking techniques in .3 and .4 . The span of time between the three versions was pretty short as we were reacting to testing our apps and the rapid succession was a bit stressful on my team. The only apps that broke between those versions were ones that relied on open hooks that were closed to prevent the jailbreaking. I dont see why Best Parking would be using any of those hooks so I believe it worked on .2 .3 as well as .4 .

That's good to know.  Thanks.  I can't say this whole AppRadio experience hasn't been frustrating!

I noticed one positive change going to IOS7, seems my iHeartAuto app now works and resizes correctly. Dont know if an iHA update snuck in that I didnt realize (iOS7 auto updates apps now...), but I can FINALLY control iHeart from the x50 screen. I have version 1.2.0 of iHeartAuto, what is everyone elses?

That's interesting.  There's another thread about that here:

So there's a possibility the iOS version(s) may have some impact on the apps (RE: the AVIC series).

Also just saw where INRIX has fully dropped AppRadio support on their site.

I bitched at Pioneer on the phone for that one.  It's still listed that v.4.5.1 is supported but it was removed from the AR app so it no longer displays on the head unit.  If that's the case I said they should remove it from there AppRadio list on www.pioneerelectronics.com.

Preroll I dont know why its so hard for you to understand that if you have a version (4.51) that has support built in it will still work on the unit. The fact that they removed it from the list of apps through the App Radio app simply means that the current version is no longer compatible.

Wow I stand corrected! You can still use it with AppEx but not in landscape view. At least from my observations.

Posted Sep 16, 2013 · 22:58 UTC#139

Well now I got it to work in landscape using AppEx.

This is what the screen shot on the phone looks like.

What I've been saying all along.  Neither v.4.5.1 or v.5.x.x is a supported app and Pioneer (over the phone) agreed that no version is supported anymore and said they needed to have it removed from their website altogether.  Why it hasn't been removed is beyond me.  I never did try it with AppEx.  I've been using Google Maps for traffic now via AppEx.

One thing to try is the last version of App Radio app with the supported version of Inrix. The only reason the supported version of Inrix no longer appears in the App Mode menu is because Pioneer removed support for it in the current version of AR app.

Thought of that and tried it already - NG.  I have AppRadio v.2.3.0 and v.2.4.0.  Neither worked.  I wonder if the app phones home to Pioneer to get updates for a list of supported apps.  I can't see why not.

My INRIX 4.5.1 was working before I upgraded to iOS7 and the app was upgraded to 5.0 in the process. Knowing this would happen, I copied 4.5.1 out to my desktop, I have yet to restore it back to the phone to see if it still works or if Pioneer has sent some sort of kill command to the AppRadio App to prevent it from showing.

I dont think that is the case, since apps can be launched without AppRadio even being installed, and iOS prevents interactions between apps (one app cant modify another one per Apple rules) so if 4.5.1 worked before, it should STILL work... unless INRIX themselves sent a kill command to their own app.

How can apps be launched w/o AR?  If so, I'd dump AR altogether!  Curious...

OK, let us know what happens when you do the restore back to v.4.5.1.

Thanks.

In the case of Inrix the App Radio app is certainly preventing Inrix from being compatible. Inrix 4.51 which is AR compatible does not work as compatible any longer and it has to be some sort of kill from the AR app. Works great with AppEx though.

Yeah I'm curious as to what he is trying to say here as well.

Simple. Have your AVIC in AR mode already, and just manually launch the Inrix app from your iphone, it will detect the HDMI connection and switch to full screen out mode.

App Radio app is just a dashboard/launcher, it is not required to get your apps to show on the AVIC nor does it set any screen modes for the apps to follow.

It is up to each app maker to include a HDMI/Video out mode of their app in order to be AR resolution compatible. Thats why other apps such as youtube, can work with AR screens (granted they dont support the specific resolution of our screen), its because they have full HDMI/Video out support per Apples TV OUT spec. The AR spec is just a different resolution from the Apple TV OUT spec, thus the sizing difference in AR approved apps vs non AR approved.

So if I launch INRIX (for example), how can I see it?  Do I need to un-install AppRadio first?  If the AVIC is in AR, it launches the AR app.  How do I get around that?  I'm having trouble understanding this because I've had INRIX running on the phone but it will no longer come up on the screen unless it's through AppEx.

Are you still getting touch screen support with this method?
