Just installed, everything works great including bypass. Once again thanks for all the great instruction.

Posted Oct 28, 2007 · 16:42 UTC#252

Quick question: When I do the bypass during the install should I still

hook up the VSS wire or is that not connected?

Posted Oct 28, 2007 · 17:29 UTC#253

Does anyone know how to bypass the new models? It appears that Pioneer has changed something in the units to where the bypass doesn't work. I'm not sure if it is true but I have heard that there is a gyro in it... Thank you for all of your help thus far!

Thanx to everyone who has shared their experiences and expertise on here. I purchased a avicd3 and the xm add on unit off of ebay a couple weeks ago and then printed the instructions and pictures off this site for the bypass. My "professional" installer agreed to do the bypass after I moved the mute wire myself, he basically just grounded the wires for me. The bypass works great!! I am from a "remote" area where there is lots of highway and very few vehicles so i'm able to enjoy the Simpsons while i travel now, lol

The XM unit was also installed at a dealers and they fucked up causing me to not receive any audio from the unit until i read on here that it might have been caused by putting a wire in the XM unit in the wrong place, I checked myself opened my dash up and sure enough, they screwed up. It wouldn't have been so bad had they not kept me waiting in their shop the previous day for an extra 4 hours while they dicked around, tried different wires/units to see if they could get audio out of the XM. I can't believe they never thought to see if the they had the output wire in the right spot - idiots!

I have a question about the VSS wire though... they hooked this up for me and at first my bypass did not work, so on a hunch seeing as how this is one way the avicd3 can check movement, I just disconnected it and presto the bypass worked great. So about the VSS wire;

1. Is there a way to hook up the VSS and have they bypass work?

2. Does the VSS affect any of the GPS functions or capabilities if i leave it unhooked?

Thanx to anyone who has any ideas or knowledge of the subject. This forum is really very helpful and a great place to share.

1. Hooking up the VSS wire has no bearing on the bypass. Properly hooked up will not interfer.

2. You will get a better calibration with the VSS hooked up. Post your year model and make and the people that know, will be able to tell you where the VSS should be hooked up.

No, the bypass still works, go back through your connections and make sure one of the wires did not pull away from the harness.

I just got a new Pioneer Avic d3. It was proffessionally installed. The guy who installed it left the green wire out so I could ground it somewhere else. I did this but now it says "there is an improper connection to your parking break lead. The unit works after I hit O.k. I can watch DVD's and everything else works fine, and since I put a switch in between, I can flip the switch so it looks like the brake is on. But normally I just leave it on.

Any ideas why it says its improperly connected? Its obviously grounded because if it wasn't, when the switch is on ("parking break on"), everything works.

The only problem I'm having is that when I drive faster than 10km/h it says that I can't view the front end video while Driving.

I saw earlier in the feed to reset my unit and see if that works. But I don't know how to reset it. Do I just go in and press the Reset to factory settings.

Do I need to set up the green ground so that it doesn't say its grounded wrong. Is it possible to have it grounded so it "works" but isn't actually grounded good enough?

ANY help is very Appreciated.

Does the video work if you go over 10 mph? That msg you are getting is indictive to having it grounded wrong. But, since you use a switch. If you leave the switch on before startup, do you get those msg's?

Posted Nov 06, 2007 · 14:58 UTC#259

Yeah It used to shut off after I would go 10km/h which is like 6mph. I think it just shuts off when it gets to 10 either kmph or mph. But anyways...

The Problem I was having with my video not playing when I drove over a certain speed, was due to the fact that I had not Done anything with the mute wire. I thought the guy who installed it changed it for me, but he lied.

IF YOUR VIDEO DOESN'T PLAY AFTER YOU GO A CERTAIN SPEED THE MUTE WIRE EITHER HASN'T BEEN MOVED TO THE NEW PIN SPOT, OR IT IS NOT GROUNDED PROPERLY.

Once you correct this problem it will work just fine.

trol1374,

The green wire (park brake) IS grounded properly. It makes no difference if the switch is on or off at start up.

Once I grounded and moved Pin holes on the mute wire, everything works fine!!!

I like having my park brake on a switch so that if I needed to, I could "prove" that the DVD won't play while I drive. If a cop pulled me over I could tell them they were seeing things. lol

Sorry for the newbie question, but what's the easiest way to remove the yellow mute wire so I can get the bypass to work?

I am afraid I'll break it. I've tried a paper clip and a toothpick and I can't seem to get either to help me pry the wire out.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

A very small (eye glasses) flat head screw driver

Did this on Saturday and everything seems to work fine. Got the mute wire moved with no problem. Just for piece of mind's sake for me, I grounded the parking brake and mute wires together with the main ground for the D3, using the existing ground that's built into the wiring harness, and connected that to the factory harness. I know the ground is good because obviously the unit powers on, and I am not getting the parking brake warning, just wondering if anyone else has done their grounding this way or if they went straight to the chassis with the ground?

Posted Nov 19, 2007 · 18:08 UTC#264

I always do it to the harness, grounding to the chassis would require me to not be a lazy bastard. No problems yet

Followed the instructions with the pics and the whole thing took about 15 minutes.

It took longer to remove the dashboard on the Ford F250 than making the mods.

Thank you to everyone for the tips. It works perfectly!

this is going to sound stupid, but do i need to disconnect the battery before i try bypassing the system?

next question if i bypass the system will it take away the message that appears everytime i start up the car and switch to map mode?

another thing you said ground the mute wire and green parking brake, so do i need to find the other end of the wire and disconnect it from being hooked up to ground it?

soz for the easy questions but lol im stupid on this subject

I accomplished tis mod yesterday and it works great so far. Just one question, does everyone else's tv give out a "improper parking brake lead" when you turn unit on? I believe it is associated with the bypass but I just wanted to ask incase I missed something.

Thanks

I did the bypass on my D3 today (manufactured June 2007) and everything works fine

This may be a stupid question or one that has been asked a million time but I cant find it...

When you move the mute wire will that affect the muting of the Bluetooth unit when a call is placed or comes in?

Thanks guys!!

The pioneer Blue tooth unit dosnt use the mute wire.

Just a quick question. I am installing the bypass on my d3 and have the bluetooth unit. I am installing on an 03 suburban. Was wondering if moving the mute wire will affect my bluetooth? If so where can i get a new connector with wire to plug into the spot where the mute wire would be moved to? Any help would be great.

No, the bluetooth unit interacts with the D3 only over the IPBUS cable, It doesn't use the mute wire.

yeah my bluetooth works fine with this bypass done. I dont see why everyone is having problems, it was easy and it works fine with mine.

This is probably a very stupid question..but I understand how to move the mute wire...BUT how do you "ground that and the other wire? I know the mute wire is placed into the new hole...but is there some sort of "other" wire that is also placed in that same hole, and then bolted to a screw somewhere???? Can someone explain in detail the "grounding" process?

Thanks,

Krazy
