I recently joined this thread and read it through twice before I made my mod.

2005 Expedition.

Unit was installed by Ford.

It took me longer to take the dashboard bezel out vs. removing the radio and making the mod!!

I removed pinned mute wire

Installed mute wire into correct location

Cut green wire leading to parking brake.

Capped off green wire end that was coming from the parking brake switch

Spliced mute wire, green wire from radio and ground wire together with wire nut and electrical tape

Ran ground wire to car frame

Reinstalled radio and dash trim

Unit works great!! ALL MODES!! Woo Hoo!!

Did find out that Ford installed the illumination wire but my unit never seemed to change when the headlights came on...WELL.>>>>> now the unit DOES go into night time mode...Fantastic!!!

Thanks to all of you who contributed to this hack....well done!!!

Hi all

found this site by accident and what a super forum you all have.

Just to say i just picked up my D3 and followed the Mod on my Jan 08 unit and it seems to work fine.

I also have been reading all of these posts and went out to bypass the D3. The biggest problem that I have is I do not have a mute wire at all! every pin is filled on this mullex and no yellow with black stripe wire exists. I did end up taking the green (parking Break wire and grounding it directly to the frame of the vehicle. I tried to use the ground from the other mullex which goes to a factory ground inside of the vehicle, but after awhile the Brake errors arrives. I just completed this new ground so we will see if this works... My question is are you all aware that the white mullex on some units has a different wiring pattern?

Thanks for anyones help!

After running the vehicle an entire day the error did come back. I guess I do not know where to go from here at this point. My white connector which houses the rca inputs and outputs does not have a mute wire or any empty spaces available. Has anyone seen maybe in later units the white connector having different wiring connections? If not maybe someone could enlighten me on what the heck I am doing wrong!

Thanks

Not that anyone out here is even looking at this, but I figured out the problem. Seems as if when this unit was installed in my Expedition the mute wire was moved.... When they uninstalled it (sold the truck) the wire came out of the harness.... I am going to good ole Radio Shack this a.m. and getting a connector that will seat in the mullex and I am sure this will solve the issue.

Had one Question I just got a 900bt is the bypass the same as a d3. I had it on my d3 before it was stolen.

Thanks for the input. I saw the thread on the f series side. Guess I needed to open my eyes and look harder. Thanks anyway.

I took the time to install a bypass switch. I have run into the problem of when i get over 15 mph or so, the warning screen for dvds comes on. I think it is a loose wire, but any suggestions will help

Maybe your setup has some loose wire if this doesn't work. Works for me perfectly.

I just installed my D3 on a 2003 ford expedition eddie bauer edition. I lost the functionality of my streering wheel buttons.eg. volume control, music change. etc.. Is there a way to make it compabitble with the D3 or was my mechanic just lazy and didn't want to hook it up to it.

i have a d3 in my f-150, can anyone send me a picture of the bypass, my techs at work have pictures but i think they are for the old version, i don't have any extra space in the pig tail connector, or i might just be looking at the wrong one thanks shooter1......

loose wire ,, figured it out

Posted Mar 12, 2010 · 03:34 UTC#367

In doing this bypass, does the green brake wire need to be connected to the parking brake? Or do you just ground it along with the Yellow/Black wire?

Posted Mar 12, 2010 · 04:46 UTC#368

Just ground it. Just like the instructions say.

hi, just a quick questn if anyone can help me, i bought an pioneer avic d3 used, i need to bypass it, but i see that my RCA harness seems to be missin sum wires cus i dont see either a yellow black, or green wire in it. anyone knows what cud i do wit that?..thx

Posted Nov 28, 2010 · 02:35 UTC#370

I bought a used car with the AVIC-D3. I have tried the Bypass procedure, but I do not have the AV Harness (white plug). I only have the power harness (black pug). After reading all posts I assume I need to purchase the harness with the white plug.

Do I really need to pay $35-$50 for this harness?

Well you have to have that harness and yes, if thats the price thats what you have to pay.

Got It! Here's another question. I just had the wiring for the trailer professionally installed. The lights on the trailer for the blinker and brakes do not work when I try testing them. The dealer says the wiring harness attached to the SUV is not getting power. Could this be because of the light green ground, which is all I have done at this point? Thanks for your help.

i know i am prob beating a dead horse here but yes i am a newbie ( need i say more )if i do the bypass will my onstar still work by muting whatever is playing and go straight to the onstar phone and thanks for the replys

Posted May 30, 2011 · 00:21 UTC#374

ok never mind i got it i took my dash plate appart and looked in real good and found out when i had my install of my audio video junk they put in a pac controler for the onstar, needless to say the mute wire was never hooked to anything so i did the switch and spliced my green wire to my mute slapped it into a pregrounded wire and walah bypass done took about 10 min to do the mod found out that my dimmer for the nighttime works i just have to flick the switch i wish it would automatically come on when the head lights come on due to me having blue leds in the hood scoop but hopefully the bad boys in blue wont notice

Okay I have a question. I don't have a mute wire. And I can't see the DVD, I get sound but no video. Also the damn caution always comes up. Also the navi I can't seem to get all the options. Is this mute wire part of the issue. Also where can I find this brake wire thing. (By the way it's an Avic d3 going into a 07 Chrysler 300 with Boston premium sound.) thanks in advance
