I wonder if the upgrade from disc destroys your contacts and songs already recorded. its not too hard of an upgrade and only costs 120 bucks according to pioneer.

i personally dont really use it for the mp3 ripping since you have to burn cd's with cd text. rather than rip a mp3 disc with 300 songs on it. ive just been using my iphone lately. too bad the stupide ipod unit doesnt recharge it. talk about lame.

Just wanted to know if this would work for a UK Z model?

Posted Oct 29, 2008 · 19:53 UTC#378

Does anybody know if a Toshiba MK4019GAX 40GB will work? Because I tried connecting it to my computer using the ide adapter and it does not power on but when I used a external usb adapter for an enclosure it works. So how am I suppose to unlock this hard drive. I've tried a different hard drive for the ide adapter and it does work but not for this model.

Is your IDE adapter connected to power? If so, it sounds like your IDE adapter is faulty.

Posted Oct 29, 2008 · 20:52 UTC#380

Yes its connected. I said i've tried it on different hard drives and it works but it seems this model doesn't seem to power up.

Something is not right. It has the same pinouts as any other 2.5" laptop drive. I use MK4032GAX's all the time...

I have tried 5 of the same model (4019gax) and it doesn't power up with the ide adapter but when I connect it with a usb external case it works. I've tried different models on the ide adapter and it works. Only the 4019gax does not power up.

So it was the adapter. I bought a new one and it works.

I'm glad you posted the solution. I was really getting stumped on why only that model drive was not working.

Thanks for the new drive works perfect. :D

Hi Guys!

I was speaking with Twin Que, who is very acknowledgable and advised to check about getting Hard Drives upgrades for the Z2/Z3 system.

After speaking with him, he advised to go with Z2 and just do a HDD upgrade.

Now, since we are in 2009, and I am going to ordering either Z2/Z3, I am still waiting on the prices in Toronto, Ontario Canada.

There are probably some changes to the maps boot up files, etc.

So, I am willing to pay via PayPal, if I can get 60 GB HDD drive (after reading numerous threads on this form) and I want to be able to store MP3s and have the latest updated maps. I have the DVDs, CNDV-800HD east & west (designed for Z1, Z2), will it work with Z3 to load the latest maps, I believe these CDs are new as Sept/Oct 2008.

Since I am new to this, and the thread starter is selling the HDD drives, what are my options?

Please advise & thanks!

.....2) I did not have a floppy drive installed to run MHDD. Luckily, I was able to find one a and install it to accomplish the security disable. I would like to see a bootable CD-ROM of MHDD that would work. I actually had one from a while back, but the PC would not boot off it, for some reason. Browsing the CD in Windows, I only found a text file that said "Boot from this CD".

.......

If this has been covered elsewhere I apologize in advance.

I have floppy drives in the computers but I could only find one disk (after looking for a half an hour) and of course it failed when I was writing the image to it

Along with many other useful HD utilities and tools here http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2005.10.02-MHDD/

I have sucessfully updated a HD1BT to HD3-II HD3-2 firmware software. I bought a HD3-II and a HD1BT and followed your instructions for Z1 - Z3 upgrade. Thanks a lot! I used a Toshiba MK6034GAX 60GB disk with enlarged music partition. Will try Toshiba MK8032GAX 80GB disk soon (1-2 weeks).

Only if your Z3 hard drive is unlocked! If it is stock, then the Z1 will not be able to unlock it.

the Z3 HDD is factory unit that came with the Pioneer Z3, i guess if i pwr up the Z3, it will unlock the HDD and then i just remove it with the screen down, then do the same to the Z1 and swap the HDD, will it work? or will it end up lokcing both HDD out?

Posted Jun 04, 2009 · 07:37 UTC#397

Both drives will be locked on power down. The only solution is to pay for unlocking software. If security is not disabled after unlocking, the drives will be locked again if you put them in one of the units.

Posted Jun 04, 2009 · 12:17 UTC#398

vaernes is absolutely correct. As soon as you remove power from the drive, it is locked again. If you could keep the drive powered up when you remove it, then it would not lock. This is how people used to unlock xbox drives...

oh, thx for warning me b4 i try installing the Z3 HDD, but the bad news is i already removed it from my z3 last night,

1. if i put the z3 HDD back into the z3 unit, would it work again?

2. if i swap the z3 HDD into the z1, and found out that it doesn't work, can i put the z1 HDD back and have the z1 working again?

3. if i put the z3 HDD back into the Z3 and assume it works again, can i hot swap the HDD from the Z3 to the Z1, while keeping both unit powered?

Posted Jun 06, 2009 · 06:05 UTC#400

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. No, only if the drive itself has constant power. I assume you mean removing the drive while the unit is on? Once you take it out of the unit it will lock itself when the power is cut.
