  1. I have recently been given a used Ipod Touch 2nd Gen. And I know that it supposedly doesn't play video on the D3, however I have read a while back that there was a way to twiek the device to do this. I am wonder does anyone know how you would do this?

    avic d3 ???

I ended up running into this problem in the beginning of the year when I purchased a 4th gen ipod nano upgrading from the 2 gen which I using. Here is my post and the information which I got. http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20524 I was going to get the Scosche passport and see if it worked but I ended up calling their tech support and they informed me that it is not compatible with the pioneer units using the CD-i200 ipod cable. I ended up returning the 4th gen nano and bought a used 2 gen from ebay.
  3. I am curious, the screen on the top is the factory Nav I assume. When you connected the avic d3 did you disconnect or do a by pass on the factory nav? Are you using the top screen only as a screen for the reverse cam?
  4. Thanks for the reply. It might be worth looking into, because it is allot cheaper than a CD changer and I have a few Jump drives which would be good for carrying extra music. If I run the cable through the glove compartment and leave it next to where my IPod is in there, I could connect and disconnect Jump drives easily. Any any idea if you can play video with this?
  5. Your right I have never been in a Porsche car or showroom. They have never been a car which I fancied. I do however have friends who own Mercedes and Lexus. Their cars actually came with the Navi system and it wasn't even an option. And after listening to their systems and checking out the navigation it was just as good if not better than the D3. So I figured for the money that you have to pay for a Caymone or Boxster it should already come with a standard high quality entertainment system and Navigation system.
  6. I came across this on the Pioneer website. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/Navigation/Accessories/CD-UB100 Apparently it will allow you to connect a USB jump drive with music on it and play it through your HU. Does anyone know if this will work with the D3?
  7. Doesn't the Porsche Boxster and Cayman already come with a Navigation system and DVD player?
  8. How come you wouldn't recommend it? If it works, it save you the hassle of having to charge it all the time.
  9. Just recently I decided to upgrade my Ipod from my previous 2nd gen 4GB Nano to a 4th Gen 16GB Nano. And my main use for the Ipod is for my Avic D3. With the 2nd Gen Nano I was happy because it was very compatible with the D3. So I figured I would get a new one with a large capacity to hold more music. Then came the disappointments. First I discovered that the 4th Gen Nano doesn't charge in the D3. Then I learned that while the 4th Gen Nano holds Video, it doesn't play it in the D3. Now I am pissed, because I feel like I wasted money on this thing and was better off with old 2nd Gen Nano.
  10. Well that sucks! The D3 is stating to show allot of flaws.
  11. That is an option I guess. But I don't think I would go through all the trouble when I could just make a Video DVD.
  12. Hi, I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the 4th generation Ipod Nano can play video through the D3? tried to play a video which was in the movie section of the Nano and the D3's screen was black. Only the audio could be heard. It id not possible to play video in the 4th gen nano?
  13. My god I think you've got it! I am going to look into this and report back if it really works. And to think I was thinking about ditching my 4th gen nano for a 2nd gen. You my friend, are a true Super Hero! Many Thanks!
  14. so in a sense, the 2nd generation IPod was better.
  15. I decided to buy an new IPod Nano simply for the lager capacity. Previously I was using a 4 GB 2nd Gen Nano which worked great. This time I ended up buying a 4th Gen 16 GB Nano and I noticed that it doesn't charge in the D3 like the 2 generation one did. This is kind of a drawback because now I have to take it out and charge it where as before I would always leave the IPod in the car and it was always charged. Anyone know if there is a way to charge it with the D3?
  16. You guys that are having problems with the new disks, are they original ones which you are using, or burnt/downloaded copies of the disk?
  17. After three different attempts I have not been able to get the east coat update. I have tried both the browser download and an ftp download. All three times when I try and open the zip file I get an error message. I have tried using both winrar and winzip. Neither works. Does anyone have any idea as to what can be wrong?
  18. Buying high end speakers with high wattage ratings is kind of overkill (and a waste of money) if you're just running them off the radio's internal amplifier. Yes but JL also makes various ranges in there speaker selection from high end to medium end speakers. The reason that I suggest getting a quality set of speakers like JL is because if he ever decides to get an amp, at least he already has the speakers to handle it. I could have mentioned so many other good speaker brands like Polk, Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc... I myself use Focal speakers powered with Alpine amps.
  19. I have the kenwood backup cam. It's very small and has a great clear wide angle view. Plus great at night due to it's night vision.
  20. JL Audio are very good speakers and handle allot of power.
  21. that is very interesting. I would be interested to know exactly what it is that he has.
  22. I got into a debate with a friend of mine with regards to the two major navigation map companies Tele Atlas and Garmin and whether or not they are used in proprietary factory automobile systems. From what I know, and heard, high end factory audio systems like Mark Levinson, Bose, Harman Kardon and bang olufsen which incorporate navigation into their system for cars like Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillac and Jaguar use either the Garmin or Tel Atlas software. However, my friend disagrees and says that those companies use their own proprietary software. Can anyone clear this up?
  23. lightsout, That seems to be the pattern with folks on this board and others. If someone has never had Navi capabilities, the D3 is a godsend. However, most folks who are familiar with Navi's (ie. accuracy, avoidance, shortest vs fastest, rerouting, speed of calculation, etc) knows the Pioneer D3 falls way short of the competition. I said it many times before and will say it once again, the D3 is an awesome unit if Navi is not a priority. Well I do recall the installer who put in my D3, and apparently he is known to be one of the best in Ontario, telling me that Alpine has the
  24. Well I can say I have had a few let downs with the D3 Navigation as well. However, for the most part it has got me where I needed to be. I have never used any other type of Navigation so don't really know how to compare it to any others. Anyone know if the Z2 is any better?
