  1. It won't hurt anything not to connect it. As long as you still have GPS reception any time you are in reverse you'll never really notice a difference.
  2. That about sums it up.
  3. You've stepped up your game astrobill... you usually just troll topics that already exist... now you're making your own. Congratulations.
  4. Just grab the one you have on your unit and enter your contacts in it. If you have already paired your phone to the unit, the contacts database WILL be there, just empty. This is what the sql editor interface looks like And here is the info you need to enter for each contact: ID = order in which they are displayed on the contacts list (basically 1,2,3,4,5,etc. in order, has no effect on the actual display of the contacts on the unit) chShowName = name of contact (you can use the same name for more than 1 entry as long as each has a different "dwType" entry) chPhoneCode = phone number
  5. Does the cigarette lighter/power port only work when the car is on? If so, that is a suitable place to tap into to get a switched power source for the red wire.
  6. Nope. There is no firmware update to fix this. In fact there is no firmware update for the D3 period.
  7. Also, it's really big and really ugly. http://www.mobilsat.com/Mobile-satellite-TV/Raysat-Speedray-1000.htm http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tracvision-directv-for-your-car
  8. Are you playing a video? It will only send video to the rear screen when you are actually playing a video. It will not send interface screens (GPS/menus/audio interface/etc.) screens to the rear monitor. The sources it will send rear video out from is DVD drive, AV1, AV2, and Ipod. It will not send video to the rear display from the SD card or USB sources. Also, is your unit bypassed? I don't believe there is an on/off setting for the rear output. Or at least I cannot find any info about it in the manual.
  9. The red wire needs to be connected to a switched 12 volt power source. Sounds to me like it's connected to a constant power source. Did the wiring harness you bought come with a wiring diagram that said what each wire was or is the writing on the wires?
  10. Yeah... if your unit is already updated trying to install the update won't do anything.
  11. Also, any digital tuner would not be able to be controlled from the D3... which sucks as well. Basically, don't waste your money on a TV tuner right now because you would only be able to use it for 3 months, after which it would be a useless brick. And as far as digital TV tuners, you might have to wait a while, maybe even a year or more, before those start being developed/manufactured for mobile use.
  12. For what it's worth, about a hour ago I accidentally ran my 2GB Kingston SD card through the washing machine and the dryer on high heat... and when I stuck it in my card reader to my surprise not only did the card still work, but all the data that was on it was still there and 100% usable.
  13. Yes, the unit has a built-in high pass filter that will cut the bass out of the stereo speakers, be they connected via the unit's speaker outputs or an amplifier through the preouts.
  14. I believe there is also a setting to switch between full mute, lower volume, and nothing for when the voice prompts are heard. Setting it to nothing should fix the problem. Go into the INITIAL menu, and set the "Mute Input/Guide" setting to "Normal" You get to the INITIAL menu by turning the AV source to off and going to the AV menu.
  15. No necessary if you're not using a rear view camera and don't reverse much.
  16. It has internal gyros and does use that information to aid in navigating just like the D3 does, but it does not display any of that info like you can on the D3.
  17. Yes, plug the RCA connectors on the Pioneer ipod cable into the radio's AV1 inputs. For the ipod source, it uses the USB connection to power and control the ipod, and uses the AV1 input for video and audio signal.
  18. There has to be 1 of 2 things done before you will be allowed access to those features. 1- If the unit is hooked up as directed in the installation manual, the parking brake wire will be hooked up to the parking brake switch on your car, and the car needs to have the parking brake engaged and the can not be moving before it will allow access. 2- Perform the bypass as per 1 of the 4 stickied topics here and you will be allowed to use those functions at any time you want even while the vehicle is in motion.
  19. You can't use the standard USB ipod adapter that comes with the ipod. you have to buy either the pioneer or Apple composite ipod cable that has both RCA outputs and a USB connection.

  21. Only 2 ways to do this. 1 - Toggle switch on the remote turn on wire. This will shut off the amp(s) but leave the unit powered on. 2 - Toggle switch on the red (ACC) power wire. This will shut off the unit completely and in turn the amp(s).
  22. I was answering the topic title, not the question in the topic. "Safe" is a very relative term. Yes for some, no for others.

    .....

Way to think out your topic title dude.
  24. True, it is more expensive. But you have to look at how much better the ipod is to use with the F-series units than an SD car or portable HD and IMO it kinda balances out the price difference.

    Shut off Navi?

You are giving people way too much credit. The human race in general, especially these days, are a pretty dimwitted bunch.
