  1. Thanks all for responses. As it happened, our deductable was $1000. I'd literally just bought the Z2 a couple weeks earlier and hadn't yet paid for it (was on credit card). The $1000 deductable plus a high end alarm and window tinting would've raised the total radio cost from $2600 to about $4400! So I just had the truck repaired and a cheap $150 radio put in. I'd asked around about the tinting, basically a pro tinting shop will know how "dark" I can legally go on the side windows, should go ahead and do that. Glad to hear a good reference for the paging alarms. I assume I'll pay a b
  2. I was the proud owner of a Z2 for approx two weeks before someone trashed the passenger door and dash of my F250 (over $6k in damage) so after dealing with a skeptical insurance company I now have a $200 radio in it... Have been hoping either the Z2 would drop to well under $1000 or the Z3 would include a security feature (like a removable faceplate or motorized screen cover). I'd love to get the Z2/Z3 again since I still have the accessory modules installed (XM/Navtraffic, mic, aux inputs, gps) as they only stole the head unit - but I can't see buying the darn thing again only to get ri
  3. Thanks to all on board, finally got my Z2 installed and (so far) is working fine with just the 2-wire bypass. Turns out the Z2 I ended up with was was manufactured in June 2007. Map and video functions work fine while moving, so far only complaint is the darn unit won't voice-recognize my city, which happens to be the capital of California... Maybe I need to figure a different way to pronounce it...
  4. Mine is still being installed as I type this, expect to pick it up in a couple hours, I'll post the results when I get it home, and in hopeful thinking, a huge Thank you to whtcrxghst for his post. Not sure my installer was planning on doing the bypass till I said a new post had said it should work - he'd heard it wouldn't on the newer Z2's.
  5. I hear there is free software you can use, but the stuff I found I didn't like, so went ahead and paid for a product that has been working fine since last Christmas. I have IMTOO DVD to iPod converter and use it to copy DVD's I rent from NetFlix in 320x240 (small filze size) and 640x480 (for viewing on TV), either can be run on the iPod. It also can copy in other formats. I burn each movie in both so I can have the smaller file on the iPod but have the bigger file for better viewing on the TV, if the movie sucks I'll delete the big file but (maybe) keep the smaller one for future viewi
  6. I'm told the Z2's manufactured after July 07 do not except the bypass that worked on the earlier Z2s. Has anyone succesfuly bypassed a Z2 manufactured in August or later yet? I'm having mine installed in a F250 without a bypass and I'm not too happy about it, but taking the risk that the problem will eventually be solved (like within a few months if not already).
  7. I'm having the Z2 installed tomorrow so not able to respond to your direct question, other than to say I joined Netflix and copy about 5 DVD movies a week onto a PC and in to iTunes so about 50 or so at a time can be on the 80gig iPod. Tomorrow I'm scheduled to have the Z2 installed in a F250 with the iPod adaptor which will push video to an aux input, and am also installing a power converter and 2nd input so a Playstation2 can be connected. Hopefully we'll both see responses where folks say the video looks great. The downside (I understand) is we'll have to control the iPod from the iPo
