I have an 8000, and while it can be done, you'll lose all BT functions, so it's not worth it/working. Presumably you'd run into the same problem on a 7000.

Yes, it can be done, but like the linked listing says at the bottom, Bluetooth doesn't work, which also makes Android Auto unusable. So the whole upgrade is a non-starter for now unfortunately.

Upgrading NEX4000 to NEX4100 - Work in Progress
EditorDZ replied to Covert_Death's topic in NEX Series
Sadly no, it won't work. You'll lose all Bluetooth audio, for both streaming music and making calls. And since Android Auto works via BT, the whole upgrade is pretty much a no-go. A lot of us are hoping and waiting for this, welcome to the club -
Add my to the list of people where the Auto EQ made a big difference in the overall sound. I'd definitely say go for it, it doesn't cost much compared to what you already spent.

Thanks... that saves me an hour this weekend Too bad though!

Has anyone put the new 8100 1.05 firmware onto an 8000 using the previously described method, to see if this update might give us Android Auto capabilities without breaking bluetooth this time?

As far as I remember, all BT functions, voice and streaming

He's just selling what was developed here months ago, a working upgrade/flashing of the x000 units to the x100's firmware without Bluetooth working.

I hope people can still find this now that it's pinned... it seems to have gotten quiet. Thank you all again for the hard work, I'm excited to see what's coming!

I will attempt to make a backup this weekend. I don't think I can do anything else at this point, as my level of knowledge pretty much limits me to waiting for compiled roms.

What happened? Did "whatisbypass" delete all his own posts, or was he pressured to do so? Like others, I was really enjoying following along, and the progress being made! -

Support for a wifi adapter hooked up to one of the USB ports, and the ability to install Play Store. A guy can dream, right? I get just enough of what you're doing to understand what's going on, and the problems you're facing. It's way over my head though, but intensely fun to follow this thread. Keep it up, you guys are amazing! So happy you are working on this! -

This thread is really a bit like an unhealthy relationship... you get your hopes up that everything will be great, and then it doesn't work out. Then you wait, rinse and repeat... -

I tried that. Unfortunately, it's a no go. BT is updated, but doesn't fix the problem. -

Adam, maybe I misread it when you posted, but are you saying that you have bluetooth audio working with Android Auto, running x100 software on an x000 unit? If yes, could you guide us lesser geniuses to how we can achieve this holy grail? I have an 8000. Thanks!! -

Unless something changed in the past few days, yes, it is fully working except for Bluetooth audio (both calls and streaming). And since Android Auto uses BT for all of its audio, it's more or less worthless to most people. Recent developments on this thread are giving a ray of hope though...
