  1. Hello, Yes, I feel confident that when the screen is blank all the functions still work. I pressed real hard around the frame that day it went out, and it has not gone out since. What I wish I had access to is a "Service Manual" that may show some information on the unit that is above the User Manual. I work with electroncis, and have built electronic kits years ago from the old Heathkit company, so I feel ok with taking it apart. But there is nothing like a good set of instructions. Maybe someone reading this knows where I can find a pdf file that has the Service info. I am very
  2. Just a follow up on my problem... Today while driving, the working screen suddenly went white with two horizontal lines down the middle. Not sure what made me do this... But I pushed on the passenger side of the frame, and it poped back on. It's almost I have an intermittent connection. Maybe there is a ribbon cable somewhere that the pins contract when the weather is cold. I ruled out the disk being the problem because everything worked even though I could not see anything. Anyone have experience with the cabling of the LCD with the Head unit?
  3. Hello Guys, I have a real interesting problem... I have an original Z2 that required the firmware upgrade when first purchased for the video/blank screen problem. This surfaced my first winter after my original purchase where in cold weather I would have a blank white screen with a couple of horizontal lines going across it. It would go away after the vehicle warmed up. I installed this firmware fix from the Pioneer website, and the problem went away. Now a few years later, I since updated my Z2 to a Z3 and larger hard drive. I am now running Version 03.0000 Platform 3.000100 H
  4. I have received the same problem on my two Z2's. What I do is pull over, turn my vehicle off, and restart. (Basically Re-Boot the Z2) It works every time. What I think happens, I drive into a garage and loose signal. Then when I start up again, System boots up, XM has no signal until I pull out of the garage. The "Updating..." starts up, and then it works again... It's as if the validation from XM is lost, and it has to receive it again. Reboot works every time for me. I also upgraded my HDD to Z3, and it does the same.
  5. I can't specifically answer your question, but I know it's in the manual on how to wipe it all out. I think it talks about Reset to Factory settings, and there is an option to only do the music libary.
  6. I went with a 60GB HDD in my two vehicles that have a Z2. It took about 5 minutes to pull the old drive out, put the new one in. The only pain I am going through is the re-load of all my music CD's.
  7. I have two Z2's. I think it depends on where you live? One using 3D-Hybrid, and the other using Simple Hybrid. When I drive the hills in the Atlanta, GA area... It makes a big difference. The vehicle with the 3D-Hybrid is always right on, and the pointer stays right on the highway, regardless of Overpass's, Tunnels, etc... In Simple Hybrid, you can loose your tracking for an instance or when you make a turn, or go down into a hole. Based on my experience, you are far better off with having the VSS connection if you can.
  8. Do you know how to interpret my version? My unit shows version 07-01-0030. Does the 07- Mean this is from Last year? thanks, Keith
  9. I see on the Pioneer website the latest version is 08-01-0010. Database Date: March, 2008. My unit shows version 07-01-0030. I am wondering how old my update is from the current? Does anyone know how often Gracenotes are updated and posted on Pioneers website? Monthly, Quarterly, etc? Once I do this update, I assume all the CD's I have loaded are OK. It will now have the information for any new CD's that have come out recently? Your comments are appreciated. I am trying to decide if I need to bookmark the Pioneer site, and whenever I see a update, download, burn a cd, and
  10. Final Follow up to my problem. My Z2 is fixed... At the suggestion of Pioneer, I downloaded the Video Lock-up fix from there website, and burned a CD-R. I followed the instructions, and loaded the firmware, and have not had a problem since. Although I started experiencing the problem during extreamly cold weather, it must have been just a coincidence and had nothing to do with the real problem. Since I applied the fix, its been working great, and we have had a few days of cold weather for me to convince my self. A side note... they told me they stopped making the Z2 months ago.
  11. Follow up... After reading the reply above... I just shrugged this off as the norm, it's cold. The screen will come back on when it warms up. Ok, sounds logical. Today, being 36 degree's... I had the same problem again. Not the 12 or 18 degrees we had previously. Being Curious... I turned up the heat, to the point where I had a bead of sweat, and no display. I call Pionneer, and they told me this should not happen. Bring it back to the place of purchase. I called the dealer where I had the unit installed, and since the unit was just purchased in December, they are going to
  12. I am located in Atlanta, GA. We had two days of 12 to 18 degree weather. I noticed at noon today... now in the 30s that I have 3 horizontal lines going across my LCD screen. It looks like the Z2 booted up correctly and I can here my radio. I just can't see anything. Note: After about a 30 minute drive, my screen suddenly displayed. Question? Is this something I need to worry about? Thanks, Keith

    AVIC Z3?

CES has the booth listed, and if you visit it, there is no Z3. They have a lot of new in-dash CD units, but it looks like the Z2 will remain the latest model for now. Side note... Since I just purchased two Z2's, and registered mine on the Pionner web site. They sent me a email asking me to comment on my purchase and what could be done to make the software better. I assume then are looking for input on updating the unit.
  14. I have two Z2's. Both have the GPS and XM Antenna installed right next to one another just under the dash, close to the windshield. The antenna's are magnetic, and in the box you will find a couple of square metal pieces. Many installers throw them away. Be sure to attach these metal pieces to the bottom of the antenna's before mounting under the dash where in both of my vehicles it was just plastic. This will provide the antenna's with adequate ground plane. Both of mine work great... If you don't have them, you can go to Office Depot, and purchase a 12 inch Metal Ruler. Cut the
  15. I have changed all my display backgrounds to pictures that highlight my Chevrolet HHR. Be sure and use something like Roxio Software to copy the images to a CD-R. Then just go to the screen to change them, shove in the cd and it will inhibit the function to upload to the CD. Works pretty good. There are a lot of nice JPG's on this website if you search for them.
  16. That's normal... You just press the Map button again, and it will go back to normal once you connect with the person you called via voice. The yelling comment? DONT USE ALL CAPS, that means YELLING.
  17. hmm i have a GMC canyon 05 and i just bought the Z2 i will hook up the VSS and see what happens. BTW check this link the site has info about colly installs http://www.coloradofans.com/forum/viewt ... 67f36fffd9 also check out www.gtac-club.com Just sent you an email. Curious if this worked on the Z2. If it works in your Canyon, I would think it would work in my Colorado? Thanks, Keith
  18. Yes you can... The Z2 has a Phone Book and a Address Book... Example 1. If you use the Address Book. Lets assume you uploaded your phone numbers from your phone to the Z2, and you have all these entries in the book. When using Voice controls you would have to say. Call... Telephone Book... Then say the persons name. Then you have to push the voice button for it to make the call. Example 2. Use the menu, and search for a friends address as if you are going to navigate there. Once you have that location identified, save it to the address book. Then update what you just s
  19. Once you select the reset, you need to drive around for about 15 to 20 minutes for the system to calibrate. It will determine if you have a simple hybrid (Unit works based on Sat's only) or 3D (You have speed senor connected). Since you made this post, just go back into the same screen, reset all, and drive around. Or wait and do it when you are going on a 2o 30 minute trip. don't try and use any of the other functions during this time because it will give you the impression the GPS is broke.
  20. Picture of Avic-Z2 installed in HHR. Nav and Sat Antenna's are mounted under the plastic dash near the Defrost vents of front window.

  22. Here is my observations... When you have the map set to the lowest setting .1 Miles, it will say more streets then if you have it set to .5 Miles, or above. Give it a try.
  23. Why not? Because some vehicles when connected show they are moving faster then what they are really going. Not all VSS's work... Specifically... Chevy 2005 Colorado which I happen to own. So some of us have no choice to drive without.
  24. I have a Z2 installed in multiple vehicles. Both are running what's called Simple Mode with no VSS. The only issues I have is when I am going up an down the hills where I am located, my position is off the road due to sat signal loss. With the following observations stated... Question: With the VSS connected it is only going to simulate your driving based on the last position in a straight line and your speed, if you make a turn the VSS does not help you. Would this be a true statement? Thanks.
