  1. Maybe, I never use it enough while not in the car to know for sure. But never had it do it when not in car yet.
  2. amazon.com is where I bought my 2 N4's now, off different sellers, but got a good deal both times I think. I bought my N1 at full price, damn did I get ripped off.
  3. My older IPOD Classis (No Video) work flawlessly all the time, nver had a issue with it on the N1 or N4. My 5th Gen IPOD Video (I bought used to get 5th gen because I had herd about some issues with gen 6) acts funny sometimes and hangs and will not play untill I reboot it, or screw with it till its happy not sure which.
  4. Could be that the firmware update that is part of the new maps on the N5 (80MT I guess?) has added better IPOD support. I have got both the map disks that came with my N4 and the 80MT disks, I will see, but I am guessing the first time I put the new disks in, the N4 will force a reboot and a fireware update also. Anytime you get a firmware update you are bound to have some fixes to all kinds of things.

    XDV-P90 and N3

I had a XDV-P90 with my AVIC-N1, but do not use it anymore since I got a AVIC-N4 and a IPOD Video now. It worked great with my N1, But It may not even work with the N4, never tried, I think the N4 got ride of the AV-BUS? might be a way to make it work, since it is bascily a DVD player that holds 6DVD's Mine is in the closet, and I paid right around $1,000 for it. If anyone would be interested in buying it let me know. This IPOD is so easy to use and does not take up that much room, and no hassel with DVD's etc.
  6. Hello all, I recently had my car broken in to for the second time and had my AVIC-N4 stolen, I had had a N1 stolen the first time. (both times they only took the top part of the unit, not the brain) The question is should I buy a N5 or N4, is the N5 just new software? and if so is it worth about 200$ more? Would I have to replace the N4 brain that is under the seat? Would I also have to replace either the IPOD adapter or the Bluetooh adapter I already purchased for the N4? I really dont want to buy all that crap again. I was getting ready to just buy a new AVIC-N4 and stopped mys
  7. Everytime I have upgraded maps disks I have also had my firmware updated the first time I inserted the new disk.
  8. I am having same issues, everything work with my Blackberry 8830 except I can not get the phone book to transfer! I have tried hitting Transfer Phone book from my AVIC-N4 and it puts a error on the screen "c' open" and disconnects the connection to the phone. If I try to push the phonebook from the phone, I get that same error as Drew is getting above, something about a push server. I did turn encryption off, like someone said they had to do, and someone on here said they had got the 8830 to work on here, so WTF? PLEASE HELP! Well I got it to work, not sure what I did, but I

  10. Thanks , I am getting ready to figure this all out today I guess.
  11. I doubt its the VSS wire, I had never hooked mine up and it never pointed the wrong way. Sounds like the gyro in the brain is confused. I would just lay in on the passenger side on the car and test it that way or something, I have mine under the passenger seat (nice and flat) and its never had issues.

    Installing N4

Hey all, I am installing a new N4, My Avic-N1 was stolen out of my car! sucked. I still have the N1 brain, no idea if that is worth anything. Anyway I am going to try to install the N4 tomorrow, and I am going to try the bypass, which looks allot easier than the N1, where you had to open the unit up and solder a wire. QUESTION I do not have the IPOD CDI200 cable yet, I ordered it from some people that are being really slow about it. Anyway I had hooked up a ton of IPBUS accessories to my N1, like the TV unit, and 6 DVD changer and the older IPOD unit, all of those I believe had a IPB
  13. I just got one from Marcus Audio Video, through Amazon, it just arrived, and looks new in box. Subtotal of Items: $829.00 Shipping & Handling: $24.60 ------ Total for this Order: $853.60 I will try to get it installed this weekend, hopfully it is working ok, even if not, would not think it would be shippers fault. They sent it out fast, and I got it fast. Crutchfeild could be worth the 150$ though if you have issues with the unit, I took the chance and so far I look to be ok.
  14. I just did the Service Menu recalibrate, and it worked like a champ, was VERY easy. just follow the instructions that "remix2112" put in the beginning of this post, more or less, execpt there in NO reason to pull the radio out, or remove the case or anything like that. Once you are in the touch screen recalibrate menu, I just did the top 2 tests 1st test you trace around the screen. 2nd test you touch some places on the screen I used my mobile phone stylus to make sure it was as exact as possible. Then I backed out to main screen and turned unit off via key. I certainitly would n

I have preformed the mod that lets me watch TV and DVD while moving, with the newest software, by soldering the circut board so sending my unit to Pioneer might not even be a opt

    Navi Voice

My N1 dose not have any way to change from the default woman voice. I have joked with people, riding in my car and told them I was going to change it to a sexy chick voice, to bad ther eis not a good mod to do that! :)
  19. Hey amp3d, thanks for that guide man, 1 day after I needed it :) But I am sure many will be very happy you posted that! Its a very good idea for stuff like this. Helps make a good walk through. Next time you take a unit apart you should think about taking pictures along the way and making a step by step with pictures. Once you done it a couple times, it gets allot easier, I was looking around allot the first time, nervous I wasnt going to mess something up, and also trying to find the exact spot I needed to open to get to that part of the board.
  20. Ok I got this fixed this mourning, seems to be working fine now! I took it apart again, and moved that connection to the right point. I still didnt remove any ribbon cables except that first one. But yea I know you cant just pull them out, but they still seemed really strange, I just didnt have the hang of it. But I didnt have that much problems while just leaving in the other ribbon cables. Doing it the second time wasnt as scary. Thanks for the help, its nice to have people to talk to about this stuff, before you mess up a $2000 dollar stereo unit! Thanks again to the
  21. I have the original Pioneer antennas, and they work fine, while not moving, but I have never seen any car antennas work to well while moving around. I really like the TV tuner though I use it move than the DVD changer that cost me $1000 dollars! Great for time you find your self having to sit and wait in the car for something. I am sure any TV antenna will work ok while sitting still, I guess. Sorry I cant be more help than that. Good luck.
  22. Yea my iron sucks, it just a cheapo Radio Shack Iron, I used to use nice Weller irons when I did this stuff years ago. BTW, those ribbon cables scare me, I felt like I was going to break them to get the ribbon out, maybe i am not doing it right, the first one I got out, but that small plastic peice you have to remove to get the ribbon out is fragile and I would hate to mess it up. That first one (the one on the bottom of the unit that you remove to get the front off) scared me, I thought I was going to break it. The other ones seemed brittle almost also, while trying to gently lossen
  23. Looking more closely, it looks like I connected it to the wrong bottom location. Lokks like I need to go up one spot! DAMN cant belive that! Going to have to open it again tomorrow or something and redo this.
  24. Ok, I tried this today. And man it was a pain in the ass, I didnt have anyone to help me hold that top part while I was doing it, and I didnt disconnect any ribbon cables except that first one. I left the screen in, and got to the area ok. The areas you have to solder are very tiny and my soldering iron tip was probabaly not the best size for this job. But I thought I got it ok. I will attach a picture of the soldering job I did. REMOVED PICTURE CAUSE I SOLDERED IT WRONG! Did not want to confuse people! You can see it better on the picture than when I did it, cause I didnt
