1. No problem. Thanks for the info guess I'll be goig with my orginal plan with an alpine radio and the d1. As for the info you can thank my pioneer rep for that one.

It shouldn't be connected to anything if possible (if you plan on som

5. Dunno about the falsher module, however if you want the map to change like it would if you have the ill. wire hooked up, you just have to tie it into the parking light wire. If you post the year, make, and model I can get you the wire color.
6. There is no illumination on the cts. If you want to hook up illimination to the z1, you'll have to find the parking light wire and tie into that.
7. Did the stock radio have the "gets louder as you go faster thing"? If it does, the VSS will be wired into the radio allready and will be included in your vehicles wire harness. Is that the case for all cars with that feature? My Yukon had that. Is there way to test? Thanks, that would be great if this worked. -Scott Depends on the year of the yukon. Though if you can fit the d1/d2/z1 in the truck, then no you can't get it at the radio harness.
8. Your unfriendly neighborhood best butt, I mean buy will have the double din kit you're looking for. The part number is gmk420. It comes with both the single and double din kits for those vehicles
9. it's a possibility. Since you can take that radio out very easily, how many plugs are plugged into the back of the radio? IF you can take a pic of the plugs, might be able to help you out .
10.
Guys any1 mount it under the front dash? Im getting mine installed soon and the installer says that both XM and GPS will be fine underneath the front dash.
That's news to me. I have never had either antenna work properly mounted under the dash of any car. They need at least a line of site to the sky to work, be it through a window or outside. I'd seriously think about getting it installed somewhere else. Sounds like the installer is trying to be lazy
11. this trick allows you to control and navigate through your library using the Ipod controls. The trick states that following: "Turn the car completely off, then proceed to unhook the Ipod from the adapter. The Pioneer display should disappear leaving you at the menu screen. Next, turn the Ipod off (hold down play/pause button)and put it on HOLD. Now plug it back into the adapter, wait about 5 seconds or so, then turn the car on. 12. If I remember correctly, it's in the initial menu. Can only get to that while the unit is turned off
13. No you can't, however you can use the factory xm antenna for an aftermarket xm tuner.
14. Actually Yes I am familiar with the higher end of pioneer and keenwood. Just because I work for the big blue hellhole doesn't mean anything. There are plenty of shops in the area that sell that stuff. For some reason we have the lowest install rates, so a lot of people buy the stuff from the mom and pop shops and come to us to have it put in. Whatever I'm done jacking the thread.
15. The cage it's self is 7 1/4" wide so worse comes to worst you might need to make 2 1/8" spacers to put between the cage and your dash. AS for the z1 cage I can't get it. So best bet is hit up pioneer for 1.
16. No they don't, what I was saying though is you should be able to fit the cage for the z1 into the radio opening pretty easily.
17.
Thats what I was saying the d1 and z1 are the same size, I hope it works I'm really siked about getting this avic z1. Do they sell aftermarktet cages for european cars like my double din volvo? I heard on volvospeed kenwood makes a cage, do you guys know anything about.
You can order the double din cage for the z1/d series directly from pioneer. Of course I might be able to get a hold of one for you fairly cheaply, but I'll have to check.
18. Black - ground Yellow - constant +12v Red - Igntion/accy Orange/yellow - illumination Blue - Antenna Remote Blue/white - Amp Remote Yellow/black - mute White - Left Front + White/black - Left Front - Gray - Right Front+ Gray/black - Rightfront - Green - Left Rear + Green/black - Left REar - Purple - Right Rear + Purple/black - Right Rear - If you can get a hold of the wiring harness for your car, that'll make the job 1000x easier since all you'll have to do is match wire colors. Almost all after market radio use EIA standard colors for the wires.
19. It's not a really hard install, just very time consuming. I'll have to check my stuff at work tomorrow, I might still have the notes I took from the last time put a system in.

AVIC D2 bypass

Well that truck does have a dedicated illumination wire so the installer probably didn't hook it up. For the xm status goes, are you using the pioneer xm tuner in the big white box, or the terk tuner in the orange packaging. Then again it could just be for navtraffic. There is also the possibility that the parking brake problem could be a normal thing. When the system is first installed it'll generate that error for a couple days. I know mine did before I did the lockout bypass. Whatever happens keep me posted.
21. Could also be a faulty connection to the parking brake wire, or a faulty parking brake switch. If you're using that stupid crimp on connector the wire comes with, don't try actually splicing into the parking brake wire.

AVIC D2 bypass
Thanks for the information guys! At the moment, I'm still wired as per the installer at BestBuy who refused to ground it for me. I am getting a message BEFORE the default safety message. It states that my parking brake has been miswired (or something to that effect) and that I need to check it out. It looks pretty much identical to the safety warning screen in font and color. I hit OK then I get the safety message and have to hit ok again. Any idea what's needed here?? Question#2: I read in the manula that the coloration of the nav screen should go with a black
23.

As for the popping when turning on or off, what I normally do is use a 2.2k or a 2.4k resistor on the remote wire. Works every time.
And I used a voltage regulator. First thing that came to mind. A resistor would have been easier :)
I must say, I never thought of using a voltage reg. Hey now I can charge customers a lot more for doing that!!! Hmmm, no I can't damn ethics. The regulator would probably be better in the lost term though, just because resistor might be more prone to fail if the radio is pulled out oft
24. Very strange that the z1 would be wider than the d1 or d2. If it's a double din then It's got to be 7" wide. I've put plenty of dual single din cd player in those types of cars, if anything the extra size of the cage for a double din would make it fit in that dash opening better. As far as I remember the part number for the d1/d2/z1 chassis is the same. Best bet would be see if you can find the dimensions for the z1. Then measure the dimensions of the radio opening in your car. The dimensions of a d1's cage are 4 3/8" tall by 7 1/8". That's the outside of the cage. The inside, where the
