  1. well, call me a sissy-la-la but if you had a real MAN'S vehicle (like an Avalanche, for instance ) you would understand the attraction to a rear-view camera. Plus, I have found it very interesting to switch it on when I think someone has stopped really close to my tail and see just how close they came . . . . to be honest, in my Av when parallel parking I have no interest in coming close to bumping the car behind me, since that would usually result in a crease on thier hood since my Av sits up higher. Given the fact that parallel spots don't usually come in "extra large", this is always
  2. since I was able to tap into my exisiting XM antenna I have the one that came with my Pioneer XM unit I can sell you. pm me
  3. For the Z3 install into my 08 Av, I needed a PAC SWI-PS to keep the steering wheel controls, and Metra's GMOS LAN 02 interface to tap into the Av's system to retain OnStar, Chimes, and all other integration stuff (including the VSS and reverse wires, no need to hunt those down and tap into them), and because it uses RCA plugs and the AVIC Z3 does too for the pre-outs (one less thing to splice). I am also using the stock amp and sub for now (new Pioneers in the doors though). Still, pretty deep install for me (put a Pio XM unit and the Pio Bluetooth unit in at the same time, plus I tied in my r
  4. 08 'burban (this one with the factory NAV unit - ps, that's an IPOD-MP3 intput): yes double-DIN, same as my 08 Avalanche, where my Z3 is installed
  5. I have my Vizualogic 9" headrest DVD screens-players sending and receiving audio+video to and from my AVIC Z3 (I can watch what the DVD they are playing in the rear, or they can watch the DVD I am playing on the Z3)
  6. please don't hurt the noob . . . New Z3 owner here, getting ready to tackle the install. I just want to know if the software upload-update portion of the hack is still necessary (assume I will accomplish the "2 wire" grounding exercise successfully). In fact, I don't see any other Z3 owners posting in this thread?? Sorry if I am asking the most foolish of all questions, I promise I read the other 50 pages of posts in this thread . . . ok, quick edit, sorry to junk up your thread, according to THIS post it is just the two-wire bypass that is needed, at least I think that's what the
  7. just got home from a biz trip today and my AVIC Z3 from 6Ave (with the discount code) was waiting for me. Looks to be factory fresh, I just opened it up.
  8. Great site, I am going to be bugging you guys when my AVIC Z3 arrives. To the OP (tbaggot) - good advice here, of course. For 1000's of guys installing the AVIC Ds and Zs in their Avalanches, I'd urge you to visit the Chevy Avalanche Fan Club forum, they have a pretty deep section on integration issues and have walked this path already (chimes, steering wheel controls, etc.), here is a direct link to that A/V section of the CAFC forum: CAFC A/V Section Look at the A/V Factory Integration sub-forum, also look at the A/V HUs, Nav & Video sub-forum in that same section.
