  1. The best way to keep all the factory features that you can is use this adapter... http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/PAC_C2R_VW.html Its a little pricey but it interfaces with the computer bus just like the old radio did. In MkV VW's there is no defined ACC wire nor dimming wire, some people will dig around for other wires to tap for that (Giant PIA). All of these signal come over the computer bus: Dimming, Speed, Reverse, ACC, Parking Brake. The adapter also provides proper ground and with another module from the company will preserve your steering wheel controls. Same adap
  2. Has anyone tried this new tuner yet? I just got my 10 back from a pioneer warranty repair and I would love to sell it on ebay if the 20 would show ANYTHING in the preset display. It must be available now since a google search shows a few online (and a few brick and mortar) shops selling it...
  3. First off, great job on the updates... I tried doing this but could ever figure out the padding at the end of the file. (F series) Be sending you some beer money when i get paid The only thing I've noticed is the blue collar comedy logo is really pixelated.
  4. The unit already has bluetooth built in. I would pose this problem over at http://www.vwvortex.com there are people over there many times more knowledgeable about these cars then me and someone probably has experienced this before. My instinct tells me that your first installer may have done something with the wiring causing interference. Without being able to see exactly what he did its difficult to diagnose. The only difference between your install and mine is the use of the CANBUS adapter instead of tapping wires so im almost certain that the tapping of wires is the culprit. The use of
  5. That actually makes a lot of sense. The only accessories causing the problem are the one that have motors. Motors make lots of interference if there's a ground loop. I'm thinking one of two things is the problem or it could be both. One: Its almost certain that he tapped wires instead of using a CANBUS adapter he may have grounded the radio's ground, the parking brake wire, and the bypass wire to different spots. Maybe the radio to the vehicle adapters ground and the parking brake/bypass to the vehicle's chassis. Also If you have an XM module installed its ground could also be attached to
  6. I have this adapter in both of my cars http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/PAC_C2R_VW.html It provides all the signals the radio needs (parking brake, reverse wire, etc.) without splicing into wires. If instead your installer went with the cheap/old school option of tapping into wires that could possibly create issues. Has your unit been hardware bypassed? (parking brake does NOT need to be applied to access all menus and video playback) Is it only accessories that affect the rear of the car messing with your reception? (ie. rear window defogger, reverse lights, rear wi
  7. Thats odd... Neither of my VW's (Jetta and Rabbit) have this problem both with an F700 and the Metra Adapter. It sounds like a grounding problem. How exactly is radio wired into the VW's wiring?
  8. What I get tired of is people thinking because something is done one way for most installs that it should be done that way for every install. (then not admitting they are wrong when it doesn't work) Some head units put out more power over the antenna wire than others. (Metra can't test for every eventuality) With my older Pioneer unit blue wire to blue wire worked fine but with the my F700 it did not. So I pulled out my Bentley CD for my Rabbit examined the wiring diagram and came to the conclusion that since there is no power wire running to the amp that the only way to get power was over the
  9. I'm looking at the wiring diagram right now... No it doesn't, power is supplied by the radio through the antenna lead. Do some research before posting...
  10. I would just do it myself if I had the tools. So far after getting this radio I've opened my dash at least 10 times. Anyway take it for what you will but i was having the exact same problem in my 2008 Rabbit and this fixed it. Also looking through the install manual on pioneers site for these units http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/Manuals/Navigation/AVIC-F900BT_InstallationManual0520.pdf I found something on the bottom right corner of page 6. The above is copied straight from the manual. If it is not an option for you to do this yourself I would show thi
  11. Did read the manual... I interpreted this feature as being similar to what my TomTom can do where it will zoom in at a turn if you are zoomed out a decent distance but then IMMEDIATELY go back to the previous zoom level. Not turn from 3D to 2D mode. Its very counter intuitive to have a user set 3D mode then as a default the nav unit will switch to 2D as it pleases when navigating.
  12. Well tried it out and it does fix the problem but this does seem to be a bug in the overview feature. On my unit it will not switch back to 3D mode after the overview mode is activated. Basically it activated after getting on the freeway but even after getting back off the freeway and having two directions less than 500ft from eachother it never went back into 3D mode. Turning it off did stop it from doing it all together though. On a side note it did give me an idea for a mod to change the behavior of this feature to possibly bring up a different screen on the nav between directions.
  13. You probably do have two antennas. After about 2006 (MkV's) most if not all VW's have what is called a diversity antenna system. The radio gets a signal from two antennas (hence the two wires) at slightly different positions on the car, usually the whip/stubby and the imprinted on the back window (sometimes it will be two antenna's imprinted on the back window if there is no whip). The radio will select whichever antenna has the better quality signal and use it switching between antennas whenever it deems necessary. Some cars, mainly higher end (passat, tourag) and audi, will have a antenna
  14. There's your problem... The power antenna lead from the Metra thing needs to be attached to the ACC lead. There is not enough power provided on the wire coming out of the deck to power the antenna amp. I had this very same problem in my 2008 Rabbit. Its not the voltage that matter so much as the amperage getting to the signal amplifier. Amplifiers require a good amount of power as seen by the massively thick wires running to speaker amplifiers. That wire coming out of the deck only provides 500ma of power. (same as a usb port on a computer) Where the ACC lead will provide as much as the am
  15. Well if this is the problem it'll be a case of the KISS principle and I'll feel really dumb...
  16. If I have the map screen in 3D while using voice guidance either the, TTS voice or the others, it will randomly go into 2D mode. It has to be the most annoying bug after the 2.0 update. This has occurred ever since I got my F700 (pre firmware update 1.0). Does anyone else experience this bug or have any idea on how to fix it? coughBorisMcough Also the button that changes the view of the map will sometime not change state when this happens. ie. Map will be in 2D after the bug and the button will still say 2D on it.
  17. I'll have to try this out... I have a lot of japanese stuff on my ipod and it would be really nice to actually be able to tell what music I want to play.
  18. When you installed the power antenna amplifier adapter (Metra) where was the blue power wire coming from the adapter spliced?
  19. No there is no reset button... I am actually having the same problem. The odd thing is my XM works which is connected thru the HD Radio unit.
  20. The speedcams just worked. I already had the file in there before the update and apparently is wasn't overwritten. Now the music is ATT instead of muted. All I had to do was set the voice prompts back to ATT (setting was reset after the update.) With the cam warnings everything appears normally in relation to the warnings, just the cam locations can't be edited on the unit anymore. Basically Borism's speedcam interface unlock is no longer functional (at least until one of us has the time to unlock it again)
  21. After the 2.0 update it will now mute my music while a cam warning is going off, which I think is very useful. Now for the not useful part, all of the gui parts of the speedcam interface are now hidden. i.e. I can't add speedcams into the database by touching the map anymore nor can I remove them. I haven't had time to start screwing with the new data.zip to try to fix it but at least there are still warnings. If I can only get it to ATT the music instead of mute I'll be happy.
  22. With the XM tuner (and I assume the HD Radio tuner) it receives a turn on signal from the headunit when selected from the source menu. Just like the OEM VW Sirius Tuner my car came with. It received a signal over the car computer bus from the radio telling it to turn on when selected as the audio source. Easy way to tell, if its accessible, is feel it. When its on it gets warm to the touch if off it should be the same temperature as the rest of the car.
  23. The constant 12V is the (yellow??) wire behind the radio I believe. Thats what I tapped into for my HD radio install. You don't need a splitter on a F700. [rant] I hated that stupid little box... PIONEER could you have made that wire any harder to try to pull in small spaces like behind my glove box????? Is it that hard to incorporate that dumb box into the tuner or at least make it detachable for running the wire. Oh and while your moving that box, PIONEER, why don't you fix the software on the F Series to actually show labels for presets on the HD radio tuner? There must be a r
  24. It happens all the time I don't have to be anywhere near one of my turns. But I think I'll try switching that off to see if it fixes the problem (could be a bug with autozoom)
  25. The only bug on this thing that annoys the hell out of me is when using voice navigation in 3D mode the unit will randomly switch back to 2D mode. Sometimes it won't let me switch back unless I power cycle the unit. This only happens during navigation, if I have no route planned it works fine.
