  1. AFMagnum, I've never given you thanks for taking time to provide us with great instructions on how to upgrade. I followed them just as you wrote them and all worked as published. THANK YOU!
  2. The only step you do not need to follow is unlocking your HDD. You just have to remove the security settings on it. So do all steps, except step 4, in the beginning of this thread to your new HDD. You shouldn't have to spend a dime on anything other than hardware ..... The new HDD and the adapter to connect it to your computer.
  3. Yea, go back to your local computer store and tell them to replace the HDD they fried using their poorly assembled adapter. Thats what I would do
  4. Yea you could do that. What I would do is download the Z2bypassed image from: http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9446 and install it on the new HDD. If you just copy the stock image you will have to go through the bypass process posted on this post after you transfer the image. http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8783 Your probably going to want to bypass your Z2 anyways so you might as well do it all in one shot. Also, you won't have to worry about accidentally doing anything to your stock drive, i.e. locking it up or damaging it trying to connect it to y
  5. Not sure if it to late for you, Nim..... try this to make a boot cd http://www.ultimatebootcd.com It worked for me not sure about you other problem...sounds like you might be on the right track
  6. Gamezilla, I had an issued with the software recognizing my new HDD. The problem was solved when I connected it to the Primary IDE and the master connection (the end) on the IDE ribbon cable. This was just to have MHDD recognize the drive. Windows Vista recognized it when it was on the Secondary IDE. Not sure why, don't know if that will help you..? Eggsack, The HDD is a Toshiba laptop HDD. Yep, if it goes bad you can replace it with a Toshiba drive purchased from Newegg, if that is who you prefer. Obviously you will have to obtain the Z1 or Z2 image to restore. Search
  7. I'm using the Toshiba MK6034GAX 60 gb HD from newegg Not one boot problem, and it hasn't froze....YAY!!! knock on wood
  8. Nim, I used windows vista to go from z1 to z2. I did not use the repair station This is my recommendation. Spend the $50 on a new HDD vs. $50 one time unlock. That is what I did and it worked great. New HDD that is faster, larger, and so far more stable (hasn't froze on start-up...yet). Navyute
  9. I just completed the z1 toz2 upgrade. I went with the new HDD method. Everything is working great! I figure if I'm going to spend roughly $50 to unlock the stock drive which freezes all the time. I might as well spend the $50 on a new, faster and larger drive and hope it cures the freeze problem at the same time. So far so good If you do go with a new HDD you will have to follow the instructions on the other post and disable the security feature, or the Z1 will lock it when you stick it in, so the instructions say. I didn't want to find out so I disabled them...it's free, mig
  10. bobman, how would you compare the angle of view (i.e. be able to see the hitch and a large area behind the truck at the same time) in this thread http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9849 versus the boyo license plate frame? I ask because you mentioned you have one on a tow truck. Thanks, Navyute
  11. Dawgbone, Your the Man! Thank you very much for taking the time to take pictures and providing all that information. Great pics by the way, I can see the little fingers you were talking about. One last question. When you put the truck in reverse do you have to let the system bootup before you can see a picture? Thanks again for all you info! Guys like you make this site what it is! Navyute
  12. Dawgbone, That is was I was looking for. Awesome pics! No need to put the hitch in and take another picture. I can see how it would just stick out from under the bumper. Couple questions: How well is it mounted? Is it permanent for you, or do you have plans to relocate the camera? I ask because you said it was "semi ghetto", are you speaking cosmetic or structural. I looked at the bezel on my truck and is to mostly curved, is it flat enough to provide a solid base? I noticed your truck in the SS with nice painted bezels, wonder if they are much different, other than the pain
  13. I was actually considering that camera. Thanks for the link, Bobmun I'm hoping to get some feedback from Silverado owners that have backup cameras, just to get a warm and fuzzy, before I spend the cash. Navyute
