  1. Its the same thing in Testmode / WinCE mode. When you cut power to the ACC line, the screen remains on for a few seconds as it does its shutdown routine. I'm pretty certain that the lion's share of the current is coming through the yellow 'battery' wire; the ACC line is used only for signalling the device whether to power up or down.
  2. I have not tried varying the voltage. To be honest, after poking around in the testmode and reading the results here of other people's poking around, I think the whole idea of doing anything with 'battery power' and 'sleep' is a red herring. I suspect that through either hardware or software, the red ACC/Ignition wire is being handled like a power switch. When there's power on the ACC line, the device acts like it has been turned on (a cold boot) and the delays are due to the software starting up in some particular order and not presenting the operational UI until everything is 'ready'.
  3. I made a backup of the original files before trying it. I'd suggest if you want to try it as well Nicky, you make backups too. Still, the only reason I can think of for this not working would be if these particular files are copied into a few different locations, i.e. a copy for the GPS program, a copy for the AV program, a copy for the Phone / Contacts program... in which case each copy would have to be dealt with. I've not tested the phone/contacts since I replaced the wave files, but I know the GPS key-beeps can be silenced through the settings, and I know that I've silenced the key
  4. I have tried to make some changes to the UI but the unit does not seem to want to recognize my DATA.ZIP when I copy it over. I changed a couple of the BMP files just to see what would happen, zipped up the data directory and moved it to the right spot on the F700.. I had first renamed the original one to DATA-BAK.ZIP (fortunately!) because when I tried booting it with my modified one, I got a windows error box that the configuration file could not be found. I doublechecked the file name (this WinCE seems to be case-sensitive?) but no matter what I tried, it wouldn't recognize. Finally
  5. In WinCE mode, on the Flash Drive, there is a directory DATA. Inside data is SOUNDS. There are a handful of wav files in that directory. The following ones seem to be the keybeeps: PSG1Hi.wav PSG1Low.wav PSG2Hi.wav PSG2Low.wav There are four other wav files in there too, but those first ones seem to be the key. I simply replaced them all with a wav file of silence - I had a "silence.wav" that I copied over and renamed to each of those files, and then moved those silent wavs into \DATA\SOUNDS One reboot later, and presto! No more keybeeps! And I'm talking about the AV stuff -
  6. Ah well.. I guess it's back to hoping Pioneer will come up with a 'fix'. The lethargic boot-time is not a 'deal breaker' for me anyhow, there's enough things I like about it that a 60 or 90 second delay at startup isn't going to make me want to return it. I do hope, however, that Pioneer does take this as a serious fault in an otherwise nice product.
  7. I've only had mine installed a few days but the GPS signals I'm getting are solid. I have my GPS antenna installed on my roof, sort of above the front seats / 6" back from the edge of the front window. With my previous (much older) system, I had tried the GPS antenna on top of the dash under the front window and that worked pretty well, but being outside at the middle of the roof worked best for me. For these GPS antennas to work properly and reliably they should be on a flat metal surface and should be oriented properly, i.e. not sideways or anything like that. One other thing to
  8. Thanks again for the info! Crutchfields got me the trim parts next-day, and I reinstalled it all this morning. The side trim bits aren't 100% perfect, but it's a heck of a lot better than the empty gaps from before. Cheers!
  9. I thought I had come up with a super-simple way to defeat this for short stops (like pumping gas etc). I put a diode in series on the Red (acc/ignition) wire and a toggle switch between the red wire and the yellow (battery / constant power) line. The idea was, if I was just going to be out of the car for a minute or two, I flip on the toggle, then take the keys out. The nav unit stays powered and on. When I am back in the car, I turn the car back on, then turn off the toggle switch and continue on my way. This way, when the switch is 'off' the unit works like normal, turning on and off
  10. Cool! I just finished my own experiments, and it seems that both those exe's are required: NNtestmode.exe verifies the region info then launches CopyTool.exe and CopyTool.exe is needed because it is what launches explorer.exe -- that's why, without copytool WinCE was not accessable - there was no shell being launched. That's great news that it's safe to remove the lang and voice files; that leaves nothing really for copytool to actually copy (other than the txt file). Sounds like that makes it a safe way to get into WinCE. I'm utterly hopeless with Windows programming but I wonder
  11. I'd guess that it is refusing to proceed because it knows the device is an EW (European) and the MapDBInfo.txt file on the SD card is an UC (USA & Canada) file... AU is Australia I think, and no idea what RE is. You might be able to bypass this by changing the contents of that MapDBInfo file from UC to EW, but then you still have the problem that it's going to copy those files somewhere... I'll try removing the CopyTool.exe and see what happens.
  12. Is it known what part of the testmode files triggers the HU to go into WinCE mode? When I look at the files, it looks like all the important stuff is in the \Testmode directory. There's two zero-byte files that are perhaps function codes? Maybe the numbers mean something to the unit, like when it finds those filenames they tell it to do something? The nntestmode.exe seems to just be hardcoded to check something on the card and check something on the internal flash; the file CopyTool.exe appears to be just a program to get explorer to copy \Storage Card\MiTACAP\* to somewhere... The
  13. I'm still very new to this, but I've got some 200+ songs on an SD card right now. I have them sorted on the card into directories, each directory is an album or 'playlist' containing the music files. I have a mix of mp3 and m4a music and it all works pretty flawlessly. When the AV Source is set to the SD card, I can go to 'list' screen and move through the folders to find the one I want to listen to. I haven't tried any voice commands, so I can't comment on that, nor have I tried any videos yet. I've just used the SD card for music, and to change the splash screen. The only negati
  14. I was at Future Shop in Orangeville ON on the weekend, they had 700s and 900s in stock. I figure, if they got them in Orangeville they must have them in the larger places. There is a special on right now too, if you buy one you get a $100 gift card. I picked up the 700.
  15. FWIW I think the problem is the manufacturers push for more megapixels because that's what the public think they want... but without a quality lens, all you're doing is taking a poor photo and making a high-resolution version of it. My Sony Ericsson has a 2MP camera and takes poorer pictures than a 1.3MP camera I had several years ago. The difference is, the camera had a quality lens, the phone has junk. On the other hand, the camera couldn't make phone calls... so it's a tradeoff.
  16. Thanks for the info! I've got a set of the trim side panels on order, hopefully they won't take too long. In the meantime I went ahead with changing out the white connector so it only has the bypass and the line-in connections, sure clears up a lot of space behind the unit. I ran the USB cable into the glovebox and the line-in connections to a storage area under the dash. I also remembered to connect the antenna line this time! Aside from a few very strange quirks, I am liking this gear quite a lot already. Some of the UI or behavior choices though, really make me wonder what they're
  17. F-series model: F700BT Phone make/model: SonyEricsson w610i Ease of connection: Very easy Phone book transfer: Transfering all didn't work, so I tried to send just the two or three I wanted; that ended up sending all?! Sound quality: Seems ok, though I still prefer the wired headset for sound quality Comments: How in the heck do you edit or delete contacts? Is it true that you can only delete all at once? Who at Pioneer thought that was a good idea?
  18. Wow, thanks for the quick replies! I'll see if I can find that Metra part locally, we have a few automotive specialy places in the neighborhood. This isn't my first radio installation, but it was one of the more complicated. I'm an amateur radio operator, and I've been stringing and fishing wires through cars for a few years now, installing ham radios and antennas. That white connector with all the RCA lines hanging off the back, I am tempted to remove as I don't currently use anything from it, other than the bypass ground. The only iPod I have at the moment is a shuffle, which I co
  19. Hello everyone, I bought my F700bt on Sunday, then came across this website yesterday while searching for tips on the install. Great site, I got my F700 installed last night with few problems (forgot the antenna lead so I'll be back in there tonight...) I have a question regarding the dash trim... the Toyota radio had an oversized faceplate so there are gaps to either side of the Pioneer. The top and bottom are fairly close though. Can anyone direct me to where I could get some trim or something to fill those in? I've seen radio dash trim kits for the Rav but they are all geared f
