  1. Nope - different types of projection as light is dispersed differently. That is why by law in many countries any cars that have bi-xenon headlights also have to either have auto(self)-leveling headlamp housings or manually adjustable headlamp angles(more common in Europe). My last jag used to 'blink' when I started it up, as the headlamps did a full up and down pass.
  2. Makes complete sense... hence why I am not looking to upgrade my lights to bi-xenon/HID, merely get halogen bulbs that are as white/blue as possible while maintaining proper focusing.
  3. Ha! I wouldn't do that. I was just looking for some halogens with a slightly blueish tint.
  4. Great tutorial man! Does anyone have any idea if the file format (ogg) and voice file location on the Z series can be overwritten in the same way? Cheers,
  5. Ooops. I noticed that after I posted - sigs don't show up in the message editing screen when listing previous messages in the thread
  6. Hey guys - I know this is totally off topic for the AVIC forums, but I figured you would be the best resource to check as many of you have put a lot of time and effort into your vehicles aside from just the Navs. I have looked and looked, in person and on-line, and I cannot seem to find a definitive answer to the question - What aftermarket bulbs can I buy that give the blue/white effect that mimics bi-xenon headlamps? My last car had bi-xenons and I miss em! I know they exist, because I see them in 1987 honda civics etc. all the time. Yet when I have bought two pairs that make the cla
  7. Hmmmm then doing the Z3 upgrade as listed on the forums or going with one of Garret's awesome pre-loaded drives is probably the best way to go. Check: http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9446 for instructions on how to do the upgrade yourself if you are relatively technical and don't mind messing about inside your computer hardware. Check: http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16080 for info on Garret's pre-loaded no-sweat, super easy hard drive swap to get the latest maps and operating software (so Garret, I couldn't find the actual link to where you list your services
  8. Why not just update your Z2 to a Z3 with the image posted on these forums. Are the updates from Pioneer even newer than the maps included with the Z3?
  9. Wow - this is a highly informative thread for those of us not in the US Between the lawyers suing you for bungled break ins, or protecting your vehicle by killing someone, it definitely is eyeopening.
  10. I wonder if the GTA just collects are reports the data better than Vancouver. It seems to be instituted in theory here, though there is no actual data being transmitted. The transcanada highway is littered with construction here right now and none of it shows up.
  11. Hi guys! I just installed my Z3 and have it setup with audio and traffic from XM. They finally got it to work after 'refreshing' my signal 4 times. Prior to that it had just said 'updating'. I was excited to get it working, only to discover that the only 'traffic event' listed is a generic message saying 'This service provides you with metro traffic'. I have heard of tons of constructions and accidents today, yet none are listed through my XM Traffic. If the reporting is always this poor it does not seem worth the extra $150/year they charged me to add to my plan. Does anyone els
  12. Oh sweet Jesus. You are a brave soul, sir. Information on this thread is fantastic though. I imagine a Z1 upgraded with a Z3 hard drive still acts the same with the 2-wire bypass? Brave or completely clueless. Most likely the latter. The Z1 (or Z2) upgraded to a Z3 does indeed still work with the 2-wire bypass. CHeers!
  13. Well there goes all my faith . I mucked around with the default backgrounds, and the copyright overlay files - worked pretty well, though for some reason it only shows 5 of the 10 files I uploaded to the BG/PREINSTALL folder. I found the folder for TTS, but alas know not of a replacement TTS voice to put in there (I heard Samantha sounds like a Femmebot).
  14. Any camera that has an RCA plug will work with the Z series.
  15. Just wanted to post a word of thanks for everyone who made the Z3 upgrade possible! Torrents, step by step instructions, preloaded hard drives... you guys are awesome! I just finished upgrading my Z2 =>Z3 and it works perfectly (w/the bypass). Many thanks especially to Garret helping out with my very inexperienced questions. Cheers!
  16. Quick question guys. I have my Z2's hard drive hooked up my computer and I am about to upgrade it using the Z3 image. Unfortunatel y because of my coputer config, it is a real pain in theass to connect, so I want to only do it once if possible. While I have it connected, unlocked and the new image loaded, is there a list somewhere of all the things you can tweak/change and which directory they are found in? I.e. I think I saw a post that you can upload backgrounds and boot screens directly to the HD before reinstalling it. Also there was an 'overlay' file that you could edit that
  17. Woo hoo! Works perfectly. Garret, I think we need to get you some kind of AVIC hero award . CHeers, Pete
  18. Hmmm no matter what I do, I can't get the bypass to work. It is a Z2 with a manufacture date of June '07. I am grounding the light green wire coming out of the black power harness, and also the bottom right pin on connector 2. But still those elusive Address Search and POI Search Buttons remain greyed out. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I am trying to do this inside at my desk and none of the other wires are hooked up. Right now all i have hooked up are the power wires and those described in the bypass. I am grounding them by putting the other end of the wire into t
  19. isnt the bypass supposed to be in the bottom right open space? this one is in the top left.
  20. Hi all! I just received my Z2 and am attempting to do the bypass. I bought my z2 used, it seems a bit different than the harness depicted on the bypass instructions. The instructions say that the last four slots on harness 2 should be empty. On my (used) harness there is a black and yellow wire coming out of the second pin from the right on the top row. Any ideas what this might be? Thanks!
  21. I actually got it to power up w/ 12v 2amps, using an old LG AC adapter from an external dvd burner. now I am just trying to do the bypass so I can actually try the whole thing out. Most of the buttons are greyed out still.
  22. ok. I will see if I can find some kind of 12v AC adapter that has a few amps. I found that the max amperage consumption is 10amps, but no minimum listed. Thanks Garret!
  23. Hmm no luck with that adapter... The unit tried to power up but couldnt. sounded like it wasnt getting enough juice (fan noise was pulsating and front button flashed occasionally). I wonder if it does need more amperage than that.
  24. Do the # of amps matter? I have a 12VDC x 500mA adapter i could use.
  25. Woohoo! I finally got my Z2 (soon to be upgraded to Z3) today! I also got the bluetooth adapter, ipod interface, XM and sirius.... I hadn't quite realized how many seperate hardware units there would be to install, haha. I have no idea where I am going to find room for all this stuff! Maybe I will get rid of my passenger seat. It will be a couple of weeks at least before I can get the unit installed in my car (having to convert the dash from 1din to 2din). Does anyone know if it is possible to power this guy up and try it out before installing it? I know obviously there is because they do
