    Freecom 120gb

i second that. it needs to be formated in FAT32
  2. you will probably find that sometimes you will have this data and sometimes you will not. i live just outside of Washington DC and my MSN direct has always been spotty. Its just the porr reliability of the services itself.
  3. i have limited experience with the others, but I would say the ipod is the best way to go. the interface is really setup for the ipod and the voice commands will only control the ipod. the benefits of the SD and USB inputs is that they are more affordable but you lost a little bit of functionality when compared to the ipod.
  4. to update my previous post... my customer with the iPhone was able to get his VR to work. what he had to do was go through his phone book and make sure he removed all of the /'s and &'s and other symbols that arent number or letters. he also said that he had to "ungroup" some of his contacts. for instance, if he had an entire family's cell phones listed under one contact with different names he had to undo that and give each person their own phonebook entry. i do not have an iphone so i am not totally sure what this means but people with an iphone should know. meanwhile, my Samsung
  5. the avic does not reference the phone when making a call. it uses the contacts stores in its memory. if you want to call home you will have to make a contact in your phone called "Home". the VR will not call "Home" if it is saved under your Home location. Its all about the phonebook.
  6. other than the buggy nature of the F-series there arent any hardware issues. i work for an electronics shop and we have not heard anything of the sort. it doesnt sound like the sale manager was lying to you, it sounds like it could have been a misunderstanding on his part. or maybe we are the ones who are misinformed but i seriously doubt that. we are a very high quantity pioneer f-series vendor so we are in constant contact with our sales rep.
  7. is kind of misleading because it gives you the option to send contacts an alternative way (by sending a name card). i am assuming this allows you to transfer one contact at a time but i have never been able to get this to work so i just have it transfer my entire phone book. just keep clicking OK until is says "LOADING DATA" and let it sit until it finishes.
  8. for everyone having VR problems with your iPod you have to make sure that you allow the AVIC to do a VR Catalogue of your iPod. this only needs to be done once for each time you upload or remove songs from your iPod. go to SETTINGS then AV SETTINGS and make sure that VR catalogue mode is set to ON. In order for VR to work on your iPod it is a REQUIREMENT that you allow the AVIC to catalogue your iPod whenever you upload or remove songs from it. after you have turned VR Catalogue Mode to ON, go back to your iPod screen. It will tell you that it is updating the VR catalogue. Once it says "VR
  9. the only thing that pioneer says about external hard drive compatibility is that it must be 250gb or smaller and that it must be formatted in FAT32. confirm that it is formatted in FAT32 and if that doesnt work try a smaller hard drive since that one is right at the capacity maximum.
  10. you dont need to initiate anything from your phone. just make sure your phone is connected via bluetooth then click on PHONEBOOK TRANSER, THEN OK, THEN OK, and leave it on "LOADING DATA..." until it says "DATALOADING COMPLETE!"
  11. the problem you are having has nothing to do with the ipods. it was a very common problem with the F-series navs but it seems to have been more or less corrected since the new 2.0 firmware was released. my ipod used to lose connection ATLEAST once a day but over the last few months it hasnt lose connection once. the only issues left is that SOMETIMES when i start up the car the ipod is not recognized and i either have to turn the car off then back or or unplug the ipod and plug it back it. but that only happens every now and then whereas it used to happen every single day. the only thing i
  12. Fear... Can you help me with my Blackberry Storm? I, too, have an F90 and a Storm... but I have several problems with them. 1) I can't get my contacts to transfer... I start the transfer on my phone when the F90 says "send business card from your phone"... after about 10 seconds, my phone says it transferred 111 contacts successfully, but the screen never changes on the F90. Eventually, I click OK on the "business card" screen (on the NAV), and it goes to another screen that says "loading data..." (or something similar). My only option on that screen is CANCEL. I've left it on
  13. I have a customer who is having the same issue, although the VR for his ipod works. he has a 3g iphone and it will transfer his contacts, however it will not allow him to use the VR to call his contacts. i dont know if this is a coincidence or if his phone somehow messed up my AVICF900 when we used it to try his phone on mine but my new Samsung Glyde is having the same issue. I have only had it for 2 days so I didnt have a chance to use the VR before we paired his iphone to my unit but i am having the exact same issue now. VR works for ipod, contacts tranfer perfectly, i just cant says "C

  15. 1 - YES 2 - YES 3 - NO and to confirm other questions: NO, the new SWI-PS still will not give you the option to do PRESET UP/DOWN on the F series navigation. it says it does but it does not work. i have tested and confirmed that it does not work. YES, the new SWI-PS works to ANSWER and END calls via bluetooth (i have tested this and confirmed it) NO, it is not worth getting the new SWI-PS if you do not plan on using it to ANSWER and END bluetooth calls as this is the only difference in functioinality, thus if you do not use these features it will be exactly the same as the ol
  16. the VW sirius is not compatible with the pioneer headunit so you will have to buy pioneer's sirius. however, there is a silver lining. you will still be able to use your VW's sirius antenna that is built into the sharkfin on your roof so no need for that black magnetic aftermarket antenna.
  17. there is no way to do this. it would be great if that somehow were an option. a few months back i was thinking it would be great if you could set the voice prompts to a HIGH or LOW level depending on how often you needed prompting. i doubt this will ever happen since i have never seen it on any unit. typically ON or OFF is all you can do.
  18. we sell both and I would recommend the pioneer for a couple reasons. 1, its cheaper. it is less expensive to begin with combined with the fact that bluetooth is included. 2, it just out does the Kenwood when it comes to features. true, the kenwood is more reliable and the pioneer has its bugs. but overall, i think the pioneer is a better value. if you are okay with the pioneer not always acting how its supposed to (it probably acts up 10% of the time) then go with the pioneer. if you are okay that the kenwood cant do Voice recognition, doesnt have as mnay POIs and just doesnt look
  19. you should know that all map data is about 18 months old on any unit you get, factory or aftermarket. believe it or not, it takes time to gather information about new roads, road constuction and rerouting, point of interests etc... then disemminate the data then check the data then distribute the data then put the data into an application. it is unreasonable to think that you will get 2009 map data on a unit that was purchase in 2009 and given that the F series were manufactured in 2008, it makes it even more impossible.
  20. unfortunately the new SWI-PS still does not control the preset up and down functions. apparently this is because of the way pioneer wired the F series and not because of the SWI-PS.
  21. i can confirm that the answer call and end call functions work. however, i only have 5 buttons on my steering wheel (volume up/down, channel up/down, and source) so i have opted not to use those. i tried programming some functions to my cruise control buttons ont he other side of the wheel but those did not work since they are not wired to the radio. i would assume that your answer call and end call buttons will work but i cannot say for sure.
  22. You are able to hook up an external hardrive to the pioneer navs, however there is a GB capacity. It is well below 1TB. Off the top of my head i believe it is 250gb or maybe just 200gb and it has to be FAT or FAT32.
  23. I suppose you can call this "normal". There isnt a problem with your unit. Mine does this when i dial directly from my phone as well. I do not know of a fix for this.
  24. does this happen when you use your contacts or voice dialing from the nav unit? or just when you select a contact directly from your iphone?
