  1. Install looks good! Now just get yourself a black Thomasohl knob and you'll be set!
  2. You've got to go into Phone settings and go down a page and tell the avic to do a phonebook transfer... My biggest complaint is that the voice recognition sucks. My car may just be noisy, but so far, 80-90% of the times I've tried to voice dial a contact it just starts dialing the wrong person. If it would just display the contact on the screen and ask for confirmation (like ms voice command on a windows mobile phone does), it would fix this 100%... It starts dialing the most random people sometimes, and the name is nothing like what i said... Hopefully when I move the mic it will
  3. Oh nice, I didn't realize you're in Houston (guess I could've looked at the shipping label...) I'm getting a house built right now... I might have to hit you up for some upgrades sometime!
  4. Yea it probably took me 15-20 minutes since I had to get behind my gauge pod... Which is probably much easier than in other cars... Meh... If I have to do it again I think I'll just skip that step... It would really tick me off if I were to scratch the pod or (god forbid) break something...
  5. Yea, I know what the manual says... Hence the 'besides helping GPS accuracy' that you quoted... Just curious if there's any other point to it, for future reference...
  6. Just curious, but what does the VSS wire do for our units, besides supposedly helping the GPS accuracy? The speed display on the map is entirely contingent on the GPS signal, as it shows 0 mph whenever I haven't acquired a signal... It possibly affects the variable volume of the voice, but I kinda doubt it, for the same reason as above...
  7. I suppose you could always go into testmode and rename 'My Flash Disk' to something else, or move all the contents into another folder inside... This will effectively lock the unit, I would think... (and should be easily reversed) I haven't tested it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.. I know the APL2/iGO/Content directory will be recreated the next time you boot into test mode though, so you'll have to delete / overwrite these files when reverting... I don't know if renaming 'My Flash Disk' would cause any problems with booting to testmode, for this reason... Pulling the fuse m
  8. If your buddy's got the same unit, and his is all stock (or, at least working), just get a 2+GB SD card, throw testmode on it, and go copy his entire 'My Flash Disk' to the SD card. Copy the contents back over to your flash disk and you should be good to go...
  9. If you boot into test mode, do you have the same problem? Is there anything touching it? Have you put a screen protector on it? I know on my cell phone, if I put a screen protector on it and try to tuck the protector into the gaps at the edges, if it's pressing down on the screen at all, I get no response... Hope this helps, otherwise you may have some kind of defective touch screen...
  10. Well, these unfortunately don't work... At least not without significant mod's needed... I've found some other Nuance RealSpeak voices, but even those don't work -.-... Still playing around though, might be able to get something going...
  11. Definitely in for a black knurled.. woot!
  12. It looks like this might be the dealkiller: tts_nuance="\My Flash Disk\APL2\iGo\ScanSoft\RealSpeakSolo" It doesn't look like these voices use Realspeak... So a) we can maybe mod the tts_nuance value to use these voices, or I gotta look for / create voices for RealSpeak... Anyway... should have more info in 4-5 hrs or so!
  13. I guess you didn't even try? In looking at what's currently in the Flash Disk, the TTS zips are only 27k... The .OGG files only appear to be in the ZIPs for the normal speech (not TTS)... Which makes sense because those are all recorded sounds (one, two, etc, _not_ TTS)... As you can see in the quote above, these are specifically for iGO8... They were tested, although I think they tested them on the PC version of the software, which the only difference seems to be the .dll files... Meh... I'll still test them out tonight and see if I can't get them to work...Will let you guys know...
  14. I haven't had the opportunity to test these, but I came across them while I was looking for some other information... I haven't seen them anywhere on here, so here you go. I'll test them tonight after work, but I'm anxious to know if they work! Could someone try them out? They're apparently TomTom voices that have been converted to work with iGO 8... From what I can tell, the DLL link at the bottom is just for iGO for PC... For our devices, you shouldn't need them (just the contents of the zips)... Again, I didn't create these, but rumor has it they work! Posting them now in the h

    compared to "sync"

Personally, I'm incredibly underwhelmed by the VR on this unit. I've been using MS Voice Command on my cellphone for the past 2+ years, and it's leaps and bounds ahead of the technology on the headunit, especially when it comes to recognizing spoken phone numbers and phone book integration. I haven't used Sync, so I can't really comment on how it compares, but suffice to say I'm not impressed with the integration of the components on my F90BT (the way the components interact with one another)... Hopefully the next firmware update will improve some of this...
