  1. Before you rule out the D2, check what features are on the D3. There are a couple of threads on it in this forum. For my money, the upgraded features were marginal at best and not enough to offset the loss of the screen real estate.
  2. To piggyback on what Till said because the D2 is no longer being produced, I would suggest researching the D3 and if it is best for your need, wait until March. If not, get the D2 from a reputable reseller (Crutchfield, etc) that way if there are any issues you are covered
  3. As a jazz lover, the XM Jazz selection and playlist blows away what is on Sirius. I was tempted to go with Sirius because of the NFL package but after having a rental car with it for a week, the jazz stations were underwhelming so I went with XM. Plus the NavTraffic is worth 3 times what they charge if you live in DC
  4. dcmidnight - the XM NavTraffic works great, I am visitng the Va Beach area and it has been a life saver the past couple days. I have the traffic channel button tuned to the home area (DC Metro) and it seems like the updates are constant, but I will know for certain Monday when I return. GSDaddy - I mounted the GPS and XM ants next to each other in the area where my third break light resided on the rear interior deck. Even with the tinted windows I get no issues, GPS reads 6-7 sats and XM reads very strong status
  5. Can't there be love in the world, Ap and Till? LOL. On the real, I see both of your points. For me, the iPod will be strictly for watching movies/TV Shows at lunch. And something to keep the better half entertained while we take road trips. So I am mainly looking for the video playback features. However, the Pioner unit would be a "back-up" incase I decided to load up the iPod with some music. Now you guys kiss and make nice...LOL.
  6. apercele79 I am contempleting the same setup, how is that iPod interface working for you? Was it a straight forward install? Thanks in advance
  7. I would like to thank all the folks on this board that helped me decide on the AVIC-D2 and gave me all the information to install the unit. Well, it's in with XM NavTraffic and PAC SWI-PS unit and working flawlessly. And the bypass, a life saver. Will be getting a video iPod soon. Too tired to take and transfer pics but they will be posted soon. But for those of you considering an install here are a few notes for my experience: 1. Both the XM and GPS ants can work inside the car (even with 30% tinted windows). I travel through the Tidewater, VA area (land of tunnels) and in the past 24
  8. May you get more in life then you dream of
  9. Could someone make an Oakland Raiders? I can post the image I would like if that would help. Also, can I use a CD-RW to load the images onto an AVIC-D2? Thanks
  10. Yeah, the interior is the first place I will try it, but if it does not work well, then plan B is to put it outside. I have a feeling that the DC area is well covered with ground repeaters and that coverage will not be an issue, but I always have to have a plan b
  11. I have been struggling with what to do with my XM antenna wire. I would prefer to install inside but if outside will give the best reception, how is this item as a faux cover? I can paint the small piece of ant that will be revealed to match the car. What do you all think? Since it is plastic, there should be not interference issues. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WHITE-EU ... enameZWDVW
  12. If you are not installing a reverse camera, you can use the reverse sensing wire. Or the power antenna wire if you car does not require that. A
  13. Thanks for the insight. I am DC and not sure what repeater network they have set up. if I can get a "factory" look, I may mount it outsite, not confident about cutting the weather stripping so I may just break down and have a local shop install the wire.
  14. yeah, I am hearing the ant don't need to be outside and mine will be on the upper portion of my dash (see photo...not my car but same model). Also, I should have been more clear, the iPod will be connected via the AV jacks because it will be used initially as a video source only.
  15. Fellow AVIC'er, here is my situation: AVIC D2 PAC SWI-PS XM NavTraffic Receiver 30 gig Black iPod (Santa is supposed to bring that) '02 Nissan Altima wiring harness and Double-Din kit The two wire bypass will be done on install My 'issue' is Crutchfield just informed me the NavTraffic receiver is on backorder and will not be available to ship until 12/22 at the earliest (all the other goodies arrived yesterday). Here are my questions: 1. How difficult is it to go in and install the XM unit after the other parts are installed? 2. Anyone have experience with the PAC unit in
  16. Thanks for all the good information/help. I just confirmed with Crutchfield my order should be arriving tomorrow. Quick question, is there any adverse effect of mounting the XM and GPS ants in close proxi to each other?
  17. I am waiting for my D2 to arrive but as an audiophile I can tell you more information will be needed. What type of music do you typically listen to, are there amps in the car, what is the primary source (radio, CD, etc) and what type of vehicle? These are some basic questions to get you started. I would suggest taking your favorite CD and start from there. Set the EQ so that sounds good and go from there. Hope that helped
  18. I plan to remove the Yellow/Black cellular mute wire and use it for the bypass ground wire. For all of you that have done the bypass, what is the best (read: easiest) method of removing the wire from the harness? I'm trying to make this as smooth as possible. Thanks in advance.
  19. Thanks for the great pic, that will be a lot of help.
  20. New AVIC-D2 Public I'm a Raiders fan and was looking for something with a Raider Nation theme or Committment to Excellent. Here are a couple of images I like.
  21. Hey Folks. Just purchased a D2 and want to create some custom backgrounds. I hear it can be done with using a CD-RW but I cannot find the instructions. I did a search and may have missed it. Could you let me know where the instructions reside. BTW, I don't have access to a DVD burner, so if that is the only way it can be done, let me know that as well. Thanks
  22. True. And if it is there I will definately hook it up. It appears to be a lot of confusion about whether the wire is in the harness. If it is there, it will be connected. Having to ground it to the chasis will make it easier to get a secure, good ground. Now it's off the the "Background" forum to see if I can get someone to make me an Oakland Raider/Raider Nation background.
  23. Thanks for all the help folks. I ordered the D2 , XM NavTraffic and all the crutchfield goodies. I will post pictures (or questions) when the install is done. On last things, it appears from the forum the VSS wire is not a necesity, if that is the case, I will just skip that step and do the bypass.
  24. Hey C. I am installing a D2 in my '03 Altima this weekend, how did you solve the issue? I am waiting for the parts and wonder if there is anything else I need to get with the mounting bracket. Thanks
  25. the gps antenna will not be an issue, I already have a spot for that on the interior, I want the XM ant installed on the exterior to look professional. Only reason I am putting that outside is it needs 360 view of the sky for best reception
