  1. Added Wiki writeup on this issue. Please let me know or edit this if my information is incorrect! http://avic411.com/wiki/index.php/Constant_Reboot_Loop
  2. The next question would be, are you sure that your modified file made it into the zip file properly? Open the zip file on your sd card and see if the file is actually modified.
  3. If you search around the forums, you will find what you're looking for. The very first sticked topic in this forum contains answers to most questions of that nature, try there.
  4. The data.zip that you put onto the SD card is just sitting there. All TestMode does is get you into a windows environment. It would be like putting a CD in a computer, then taking it out and wondering why the data on the CD isn''t on the computer. You need to actually copy the files over, that's the point of the windows environment. The "copying files" dialog is a bit misleading. It's not copying *your* files to the unit, it's copying over some system files necessary for test mode. That dialog is simply part of the bootup process. Once you're in windows, try Start -> Windows Explore
  5. Just wanted to let you guys know that I saw this and think it's going to be an excellent tool. I've started working on improving some pages and lists, starting with the Software Mods section. I've done a new writeup on how to enter Test Mode, with illustrations, which should help out with people trying to figure it out. I'll be working more on this, getting some more pictures up and working on updating the software mods list to better reflect what's out there. http://avic411.com/wiki/index.php/EnteringTestMode
  6. Yeah, if there are too many differences between the two, it'd most likely be too difficult to convert between the two versions..
  7. Ohhh.. I didn't see the two different part numbers listed for it. Possible there's different roms in there or something, then..
  8. Right. Well the FM tuner would most likely work fine. The TMC/RDS/MSN chip is actually on the Navi board, which is separate from the AV board, where the FM tuner lives. The AV board contains the FM tuner and an amplifier for the TMC/RDS/MSN, which is then sent up to the Navi board with a coaxial cable.
  9. Ah. Wasn't aware of the different versions of the actual unit and service manual. Looks like it'd be a bit harder than suspected, guys.
  10. I don't know if we can get ahold of the actual firmware.. the software update isn't firmware.
  11. As I just posted in another thread (viewtopic.php?f=34&t=20996&p=155709#p155709) I've been looking through the service manual, and there doesn't seem to be any difference in the tuners. The service manual uses RDS/TMC/MSN Direct fairly interchangeably, so it seems it might be the same bits inside. The manual doesn't contain any schematics or block diagram of the Navigation board, which is where the TMC/RDS/MSND receiver lives, so without looking under the little cans on the board, it's hard to tell what they're using.
  12. I don't think we're sure yet that there's different hardware yet. I haven't seen any side-by-side comparisons of the A/V boards from the two models, which is where the tuner lives. The service manual does not call out different revisions of the board. There are actually two receivers, one for the FM signal, and another on the Navigation board, where the RDS receiver lives. This is most likely because the MSND and TMC and such use different frequencies to receive data on, and need to operate independently of the AM/FM tuner. There is definitely a cable running from the lower AV board to the
  13. Replacing any boards would most likely require you to replace the entire A/V board, which from the looks of it, would not be cheap at all. Theoretically since they're all synthesized tuners, they can tune to anywhere in their band split that the software tells them to. Most likely there's an initial programming at the factory that sets up whether it's US or EU, and depending upon that, settings like RDS, FM/AM frequencies, MSN Direct freqs, etc are set up. The service remote is interesting, my JVC TV has one like it. There's a special remote control that technicians and service personnel c
  14. Read the main FAQ at the top of the forum. viewtopic.php?p=127139#127139
  15. I suppose i'll be the one to bite and reply to this. Wifi: As far as I've seen anywhere, the iPod Touch does not have the ability to tether or 'pipe' a network connection into the dock connector or anywhere else; it's a purely internal connection. WiFi would be an option on the head unit itself, if they wanted to implement that, but to browse the web over a phone's connection would require a complex setup of Bluetooth that most people lack the knowledge of how to do. It's a somewhat advanced topic. Plus they'd need to develop even more software for the head unit to browse wireless APs, co
