  1. I was wondering if anyone here has used the phone function enough on the Avic Z1 to answer this question: Once I dial a phone number with the on-screen number pad, is there any way to keep the screen up after the other party picks up? I ask because there are instances such as when I dial my voicemail, where I would still need to press additional keys after the phone call is initiated. Thanks in advance! Frank
  2. I know my Treo 650 disconnects all the time and I get that message bar when it does. But, it usually reconnects a minute or two later.
  3. Thanks for sharing the info. Hopefully if someone else has the same problem, they can find this post!

    Need a new Mic

Has anyone used a different mic and actually seen an improvement in performance/clarity? People always complain I sound garbled on the AVIC. I really miss the Sony Ericsson handsfree car kit I had to take out when I put the Avic in.
  5. Thanks. I got my Z1 from Crutchfield in December, so I'm good. I'm getting ready to install a back-up camera and I'm kind of dreading it based on the hit-or-miss experiences others have been having by what I read in other threads. oh well, we'll see. Thanks guys.
  6. quick question guys: I'm trying to find the warranty card to no avail. Does anyone know the factory warranty period for the Z1? Thanks, Frank
  7. The screen actually froze, but when I would try to zoom in or out (or any other options), then it suddenly kickstarted the screen and it would shoot me over to where I am actually positioned. I'm thinking I'm probably in the wrong screen to begin with. I guess I'm still learning how to use this thing, I noticed certain map views show one fixed map and then I'll see the arrow slowly drive off the screen (ha). I guess I'll give it a few more days before I start freaking out. Thanks for your help guys, and specially Ducatiboy and Aviator03 for their install advice for my vehicle (th
  8. Ok. I have had my Z1 in less than a week and am still getting to know the ins and outs. One thing I noticed that has happened twice already is the map screen freezes up when I'm on the highway. Here's the scenario: No route is set, I simply go to full map view and just keep track of the floating arrow as it tracks me on the road. Both times I have gone on the highway and go over something like 65 miles an hour let's say, the map freezes after a little while. So it looks like I stopped in the middle of the parkway! I then have to go to another screen and then go back to the map view to
  9. I just finished installing my Z1 today (Dec 06 unit) and I noticed the pop as well. It's intermittent though. It either happens on the first call after the Z1 connects with my Treo 650 or it doesn't happen at all. If it pops after the first call, it won't pop again after susbsequwnt calls. Very weird. anyoone have any ideas?

    Z2 Announced

Sorry, I was just giving an example. I have the gas station logos too, but they added to the overall POI icon database. To answer another question, yes routing times/estimates should be improved as well, but I believe they still use the preliminary average speeds the user sets in the settings screen for the road types.

    Z2 Announced

Don't know if it was mentioned here, but I met with the Pioneer folks at CES and the 2-DVD upgrade to make the Z1 EXACTLY the same as the Z2 will be $200. I also met with the Tele Atlas Reps at CES (they do the maps for the AVIC, and they claim the routing algorithms and the route-learning algorithms are supposed to be a lot better than before. TeleAtlas bought a competitor a couple of years back and have been working all this time to mesh together their two map databases. This new map update that the Z2 will have is supposed to be the intro of the combined database. The new POI icon
  12. Yes the Avic is a non-traditional "home electronics" device which Harmony would not include on its website. That particular remote should have the learn capability. if you have access to the SR1 remote from Pioneer, you can manually program all the IR codes into the Harmony remote. I have the Harmony 628 and it's awesome. there's very little those remotes can't do. You just need the time and patience to program them is all.
