  1. Most likely where you are at, you do not have enough satellite signals. Go drive around on some major road or open area where you will have definite satellite reception...I believe it takes like 3 satellites to originally triangulate where you are.
  2. I have to chime in here about the "search function." I am sorry, it is useable but it SUCKS, especially for people unfamiliar with bolean language. To start, when you click search and you want to select a specific section, the sections aren't DEFINED! You see, general, Hacks/mods..etc but it does not list for which headunit/service/etc those subsections are under. For instance, if I want to search N1, N2, N3, subsection Hacks/Mods, all I see are all the subsections listed, and not Section "D1, D2, D3" Section "n1, n2, n3," Section "Z1" ....etc. This can be EXTREMELY frustrating. Then once
  3. Here is the post with pictures on the paperclip trick: http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php? ... +paperclip
  4. If it is true that you have a N3, the fix it pretty easy. There are 3 things you have to do: 1. Take the headunit out. When I say out, there should be 4 VERY small screws that hold it into a metal sleeve. Just be aware that you may, depending on your install and wire length, have to disconnect the wiring harnesses (they are just plugs that only fit properly into each specific hole on the back of the headunit). Once you pull the headunit out, on the bottom side, you will see a silver sticker. Under this sticker there is a switch. Now comes for the tricky part: If you bought this from a non
  5. The Best Buy Parts Dept used to have them, but I just checked and they no longer do.
  6. Honestly, although it isn't suppose to occur, it is probably just due to the cold. I know I live in Montreal for several years while attending McGill University and my electornics would stop working or do quirky things when it got cold....it got to -40 there. Let your truck warm up, and then see
  7. Yeah, don;t really care about the Ipod...I wonder if it would be more cost efficient to send it to the guy on ebay to have it modified.
  8. That's disappointing...everything I read was the opposite. I have an N2 and my father just got an N3. I really love how all the XM info is diplayed on the screen, and I figured an update would be the fix...now I am depressed
  9. Not sure that all of that is just the "n3." From my understanding, the N2 has most if not all fo these features if you merely do the software update that comes with the n3...aka it is on the nav disks...
  10. I saw mention of the circuit pen, but some seemed to infer that it might have a limited life...aka the liquid pen connection might not last a long duration like the solder would...or is this a myth like big foot, since we all know we didn't land on the moon?
  11. Ok, I have researched the n2 bypass extensively on the site, and I have the sticker peeled back on my N2, having just come back from Pioneer with a new ribbon cable. Anyway, I see the two points that need to be soldered together, but people have *mentioned* screwing this up. But how? There are only th 2 points, which need to be soldered together. I am definitely no solder maven, but how do you screw this up? I have seen mentioned of people destroying their "motherboard" and I just want to make sure that I steer clear from this. Thanks for any info.
  12. I called Pioneer (after I ordered a ribbon cable from Best Buy) and was told the reason they stopped offering them, is that they are now offering a FREE one time replacement of this cable. It does not matter whether it is out of warranty.

  14. AH, thank you very much...you saved me many headaches!
  15. I am trying to determine how to bypass the nav/dvd limitations on an AVIC n2. I have been researching the issue on this site for over an hour now and I have a question or two. For one, it would be great if someone did a comprehensive post on this subject since there are so many which are only partial, but here it goes: I understand with the N2, that one has to solder to the two points together and saw a post on that. However, I have a grounding question. I understand the parking brake lead has to be grounded all the time. Furthermore, there is apparently an empty harness location (anyone
  16. I just went to Pioneer's site, signed up, and found out they have discontinued it...Now what????
