I've had this head unit installed for over a year, by a professional. I had the same exact problem about year ago when i had to have some work done at the dealership. The cure they came up with was to disconnect the battery and touch the positive and negative leads together for about 5 seconds. They said something about some aftermarket head units having internal batteries you have to reset/drain after disconnecting the battery. I don't know, but i called them today to confirm this was the fix and it didn't work for me.

More info:

1. After reconnecting the battery the head unit immediately powers up. whether there is a key in the ignition or not. Even with the doors locked.

2. If the car is running and i shut it completely off, take the key out, and open the door, the DOME LIGHT DOES come on. But the head unit remains on and would until my car battery died.

3. There is no sound or even door chimes. Open the door when in drive and the dome light does come on, and it says door open on DIC... but no sound.

4. I can't remember what harness i'm using but i did retain the onstar and chimes when i got the unit installed.

Can't think of anything else. Can't figure it out... the 920bt doesn't even have much of a factory reset, even when i reconnect the battery my settings are still saved (i guess that's what the internal battery is for in the unit). As of now my positive and negative is disconnected so my battery isn't killed by the head unit. Like i said it worked fine for about 6 months, had the issue and it was fixed about year ago and now it's back.

His experience is far from isolated. Although it is nice to see you aren't having issues, many others do. The problem is that different people have different degrees of success with these units, regardless of what they do to troubleshoot the issues. I also had very little issues. However many others have had a different story.

I think it depends more on the competence level.

I'm here b/c i want to learn about my new unit and hear about news on the software update. Seriously, 6000 posts on a board that get's like 10 posts a day? Got your picture on your profile and everything? If you don't plan to buy another pioneer, you already know all the answers, and you dont support pioneer anymore then what's the point of adding to that grand total? It's not like you help anyone either. You seriously contribute nothing in 90% of the threads i read. Instead of pointing someone to a useful thread you reply with one sentence of rudeness. I could understand if you worked for the site but i dont get it. Maybe it's time to move on?

That is exactly the issue. The attitude from their support is the worst I have ever seen and I hope they do pay the price for it. I will never but another Pio mostly because of this. And the fact that I am fixing to go full iPad in my dash which will blow away any Pio unit.

So if you claim you wont buy another pioneer unit... why exactly are you here?

Yeah, just because Pioneer mis represented this unit I'm sending it back.

 

I'm not a rich guy but am willing to pay way more than this unit is worth for a well designed, well tested and proven system. It's a damn shame. I hate being taken.

 

I did however just get the VR to work.... Only after hours of research and testing. Who has the time?

 

I can Plug an iPod into a 200.00 head unit and buy a friking jawbone.

I have to say I can't disagree more with your post. I got my 920 installed yesterday and it works as advertised for me. The voice recognition has been flawless. I will admit it can be a bit slow but it's been totally functional for me. Playlists, artists, albums, genres, and the call features have been impressive. I only had an issue with the VR when my windows were down. Also look in the settings menu and make sure you have music set to mute when using VR so it doesn't interfere. Although that really didn't cause an issue for me. If I were you I'd check the mic placement. Mine is to the right of my visor near the rear view mirror. Oh yeah, and maybe the VR cataloging is interfering with your use of the VR. When the VR catalog for your ipod is updating it disables the use of VR. After the VR catalog finishes for your iPod go to the settings and turn off the VR catalog function. And when you add songs to your iPod you can let it catalog again but turn it off when you are done. It seems like the VR catalog process wants to occur each time you connect your iPod, even if you haven't added any music. Annoying but fixable.

After about an hour of playing with it I felt totally comfortable with the entire unit and all it's functions. All without reading the manual. I think the iPod interface is awesome and works great. My only gripe is I wish there was a way to see all the songs from the album in which the song is playing. Link to album works but I wish I could see all the tracks easier from the play screen but it's not a big deal.

I read your post initially before mine was installed and you had me all worried. I'm so glad that your experience is isolated.

As you can see from my previous post I did read the other threads. I guess I thought there was more info out there than what was already on the forum. someone could have easily said that there wasn't any more info as of now rather than being a jerk.

Btw if you really are on here everyday I hope you get paid for it. If not you should find a board that's not dead.

Differences with the x930BT:

 

As it's not out yet, the only hard evidence anyone has is from Pioneers product page and the CES show where it was shown. Any and all information about the unit is coming from one of those two sources, and has already been repeated here - several times . I mean, look at the first page of this forum alone:

Pioneer has updated its NAV Unit Page - Z130BT & X930BT

 

All asking variations on the same questions that currently have the same answers, or asking questions that no one could possibly have answers to yet since the unit isn't available.

 

Going solely by information provided by Pioneer (i.e. not speculation or friend of a friend rumors) the following are the known differences:

 

It has a volume button.

It has a partially detachable face - we're not really sure exactly what that means.

No VR support.

 

Pioneer has announced there will be a software update that brings the software-level features (like App mode, new maps, etc) of the x930bt to the x920bt. They have also confirmed that said update will not disable VR support on x920bt units. No other information on this update has been announced, however, if we go by the way last year's worked, it will come out a month or two after the x930bt is commercially available, and cost $150+ or so. It will include the OS update and 2011 maps.

 

Nothing else other than what you read on Pioneers site is known. The base hardware appears the same in terms of pre-out voltage, processor, flash memory size, etc.

Yeah i read plenty of threads. Most of them contain you being a D-Bag. That and not a lot of info about the 930 besides the physical change to the buttons and the lack of VR.

I was asking my installer today about the bypass for when i get my 920bt and he said he would do it but did not recommend it. He said that it interferes with the gyroscope and would eventually cause the system to fail. Has anyone heard of this? At first i thought it was rubbish but he said he would do it if i wanted and seemed to know what he was talking about. THoughts?

I already made my .PIM background but how do i add it to the pim2dim folder? I used disc utility to make a disc image of my map disc but everytime i try to drop the .PIM in the iso folder it says it cannot be modified. How can i add the background and burn it??

Do i need to just open the disc and copy all the files to my HD and then add the pim? Then create a iso and burn?

So i have the cndv-80mt East.iso file downloaded and when i burned it to a dvd+dl it didnt work in my D2. I read that maybe b/c i set the right speed at 4x it didnt work, im trying it again on 2.4x.

I am using the default burning program on my iMac, has anyone had success using this on the iMac? I am running OSX 10.5.6.

If anyone has insight please enlighten me.

I see the harness from my car is connected to my d2. THen i see the xm i think spliced in to the power line of the d2. I dont see a harness i can plug in to or a harness from the xm. The only two harnesses i see are from my car to the d2. I guess if worst comes to worst i can splice the power cable to the power line either into the d2 power line or the power line from my car just before the car harness....

Ok I am ready to instal the CD-IB100ii Ipod interface to my D2 (blue wire disconnected) but i have a qestion. I have XM, so i know i have to run the bus from the xm instead of the d2... no problem... but i can't figure out where i need to connect the power supply from the CD-IB100ii. My thoughts are that maybe i dont need to connect it b/c it will get the power supply from the xm unit? I'm digging around everywhere but i really dont see where i am suppost to connect this power supply. Help....

Ive had my xm for a few weeks in my d2 and i love it. I surf just about all the stations and there is one artist i have never heard (shockingly)

I have the 90s on preset and visit the 80's pretty often... but ive yet to hear one MJ song... what station am i missing?

When playing a CD/mp3 CD if i select the random option to play a random song it never works. Do you really have to play the whole song and then it picks a random song?? That really sucks if so. On my old alpine you could keep going to the next song and each time it would be random.

Also, in the cd settings there is a button for "comp" what is this? It has settings like... comp1, comp2... etc.. whats this?

no, i'm just going to take it in to the place that installed it to check it out. Id rather not mess with pulling out the unit and messing it up more.
