  1. I chose to keep mine visible so that I can access other features that are not available but still show up on the screen of the AppRadio. I use Trapster so I can run it from the Android and it appears on the Pioneer screen, and I can hear it through the car, but can't be controlled by the AppRadio because it isn't designed for it (hopefully soon). I also like to use Google Play Music which is not supported yet and it contains music that is not stored locally on my phone. The Android once connected to the cable and bluetooth can be completely independent though, unlike the iPhone it doesn'
  2. I bought an MHL adaptor at my local computer store for $25 today (couldn't wait) and it works perfectly!
  3. It works! It works better than the iPhone! Everything but calendar works actually but the overall experience is better so far than with iOS. If you have a Galaxy S2 and upgraded to ICS this will work for you and I suspect any other Android with 4.0 and either mhl or hdmi out will also work. I am sure it will work even better one official support for Android 4.x arrives.
  4. I figured how to make it work much better, I connected my Android device, what a huge Improvement so far. The CarMedia player is better, using Waze for navigation is awesome, you can speak your destination, photos look much better, not washed out like the iPhone (I suspect a bad cable) and absolutely everything from the phone screen is mirrored onto the appradio screen (not everything responds to touch though) I wish there were more apps and hope that google adds google nav support but for now I can still manually launch Google nav and it appears on the screen and the voice guidance c
  5. I don't have nearly the issues that the video review showed, maybe the iPhone software has been updated since that review and works better now. I do get the blank screen sometimes but it only lasts about 2 seconds and then comes back on, but I believe that is an iPhone issue more than that appradio. I have not tested Pandora because I am in Canada and it isn't available here (can't even download the app). I do agree that the phone constantly asking you if you if you want to launch the app is annoying, but then again that's an iPhone issue, if you are going to be in iPhone owner you will
  6. I found an MHL adapter at a local computer store today and will give it a try this evening, I will update in case anyone else has an Android 4.0.x device that they want to use with AppRadio2 FYI if you don't want to dish out the $100 for the Pioneer Kit you can buy an MHL adapter from http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=mhl&x=0&y=0 for $10.20 + Shipping You may also need a micro USB extender depending on where you will be mounting your phone, several lengths available at http://www.usbfirewire.com/uextendmicrob.html starting at $12.95 Keep in mind that when I
  7. You can get the MHL adapter from Monoprice.com for about $9
  8. Hello everyone, I picked up an Appradio 2 for my car on the weekend but they didn't have the Android connectivity kit in stock so I haven't been able to try the connection yet. I am wondering if anyone out there has tried to connect a phone that has Android 4.0 ICS on it and if they are successful or not. If you have tried it what model of phone was it? I have a Galaxy S2 with ICS and am really hoping it works because so far the iPhone hasn't worked very well for me since it doesn't really do multi tasking properly.
  9. After almost 2 years of owning my AVIC-Z110BT I have found a replacement that I am really excited about it is a double DIN with all the same features of the Z110 plus an added bonus that the screen is detatchable and is a fully functioning Android 2.1 tablet with hardware controls for the DVD/CD and tuner if the faceplate is removed so it can still be used. http://cgi.ebay.ca/Universal-Android-Double-2-Din-Auto-Car-Tablet-Pad-PC-/280692692905?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item415a9697a9 I have been a little underwhelmed by the Pioneer unit even with the Z120 upgrade, the nav is still me
  10. So to Settings -> Bluetooth Settings then scroll all the way to the bottom and press the update firmware button, it will tell you the current firmware version
  11. I have the same issue as well, I have a Google (HTC) Nexus one and it did this for me on the Z110 and now Z120. The interesting thing is that if I put a custom ROM on my phone which is a port of the OS from the HTC Desire with the Sense UI it corrects the problem, then when I switch back to the my MoDaCo custom N1 ROM the contacts stay in the First, Last name order that I like. I had the same issue with my Nokia N97, but my Motorola Milestone (Droid) displayed the contacts properly on z110, but I haven't tested it on the Z120 yet I really wish Pioneer could go back a few years in Bl
  12. It's funny how smaller LCD screens seem to all be more than the large ones, I usually buy laptop replacement screens that run me about $120 on average for a 15.6" widescreen yet when I needed a 10" one for a HP mini netbook it cost almost $500, more than the netbook itself. supply and demand.....
  13. It looks like many years has turned into already happened http://moconews.net/article/419-android ... rry-in-q1/ I did notice today that AVIC feeds is available for the BlackBerry now as well so I imagine it is just a matter of time before the Android version is released.
  14. I received my update today and installed it, the whole process took about 30 minutes including the BT firmware update. The update came with several warnings that you must have BT firmware 3.10 or lower before doing the upgrade written on a sticker that covers SD card #2 and a leaflet written in about 500 languages warning of the same thing and advising to do the 3.11 update after the system update. I was a little worried as I had already downloaded the contents of SD #2 via torrent and done the 3.11 update If anyone else has done this and decides to do the system update you CA
  15. I believe he means that he would rather get just the screen ( and possibly install it himself) rather than send it to Pioneer to have them supply the screen and do the install. If you can take the unit apart, many times the manufacturer of the screen is listed as well as a part number and serial number. You may be able to cross reference it with a part from something else or just be able source the screen more easily that way. If you can figure out the manufacturer/part # list it here and someone might be able to source one out. Have you tried to search on Ebay for a damaged one t
  16. Did you just break the connector on the wire itself of did you actually snap off the pin on the back of the Z120? If you just broke the connector at the end of the wire you can just bare the end of the wire a bunch and stuff it in there tight so it makes contact with the pin, you should also be able to find the connector at a proper electronics shop, not radio shack. If you have an old pioneer head unit kicking around you may be able to extract one of the wire's with the connector from it's wiring harness. You could also order a new wiring harness if needed. Check with your local installers
  17. I installed the BT firmware update, it didn't break anything but I haven't noticed any improvements either.
  18. I know that you need to enter the unit and media number to to the map/feature upgrade but do you have to do that for the bluetooth upgrade as well? I would love to upgrade my bluetooth as it is currently quite flakey. Is it possible to make the BT upgrade files available???
  19. I did read a really old (2007) press release that indicates some Ford vehicles will use the Sirius/XM travel link in its 2009 model year Lincoln's but the current information seems to be different. I also ran into an article that says the 2009 F-150 does have the Sirius Travel Link feature. However the article is from January 2008 http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/2009- ... -link.html It's a little confusing. The current information @ http://www.syncmyride.com/Own/Modules/F ... uestion422 seems to indicate that SYNC uses your cellular phone's data and text messaging features
  20. I noticed the manual still references MSN direct. I suppose this is good news and bad news all at the same time. The bad news is that MSN direct service will be discontinued in a couple years. The good news is that is sort of confirms that the updated software will be available for the z110 and was included to be backwards compatible for everyone who currently owns a z110/MSN tuner combo. I guess it also means that there is no alternative to the MSN tuner right now Perhaps the update next year will allow us to take advantage of the data connection in our phones to get the in
  21. Bricked -Def. When something does not work as it should and is now as useful as a brick.
  22. I am in Edmonton, Alberta. Last Sunday the overnight low was -46.1 C, we were the 2nd coldest place on the planet. http://www.edmontonsun.com/news/edmonto ... 41366.html I have a nice compustar remote starter in the vehicle that usually has the car warm enough for it to work by the time I get in, but a week of my car at the airport made it take a long time to warm up, so did the -30 C temperature. Today should be the last day I drive her this winter though, I am finally going to get my Ford Exploder on the road today, unfortunately it is a 1992 so it only has a single din deck
  23. I noticed a feature that I was unaware of but will probably save the life of the screen. When getting into my car after a blizzard and being -30 C, I noticed the Z did not work at all, no music, no screen. After warming the car up and driving for a while the unit turned on and then displayed "temperature restored" and had me press OK. I guess it is designed to not turn on when it is extremely cold, probably to protect the LCD. It seemed to turn on at about the time I couldn't see my breath anymore...
  24. The link to the metra kit does state that it is for the 1 series on the web page and the installation instructions though.
