  1. Cool. It sounds like it might not be as big a disadvantage losing the Z1 as I thought. There's a module that allows you to hook an aftermarket DVD player to the navi screen in other Acuras. I put one in a buddies TL with the single DIN Pioneer DVD player behind the glove box. It might work in your Rdx too. http://www.tvandnav2go.com/acura-tv-navigation.html
  2. Look, I'm not the one coming off high and mighty. That distinction belongs to you. I was NOT the original poster and have no need for the information myself. I was just making an observation that the thread poster could have searched and found nothing--ergo, he asked a question about it. There's a lot of nasty attitude from a lot of posters here that can be very abrupt with newbies. And before anyone says anything, yes, my post count is low, but I am not a newbie and have been reading this and many other forums for a very long time.
  3. I don't know if that was directed at me, but I assure you I graduated high school. Try searching for GEX-P7000. It gives you nothing. Now, if you knew the full model number of the tuner, you'd be fine. However, only searching with the partial number the thread author used just gives you this thread. And, yes, I know what Boolean operators are. I deal with them all the time in logic circuit design.
  4. What do you think of the Rdx so far? I'm looking to buy a new car in about a month, and the Rdx is high on my list. The only thing that scares me is the horror stories some people are having with gas mileage. I assume you got the tech package since it's impossible to put aftermarket nav in that thing. I'd love to hear your feedback since you're used to the Z1 and would have insight into the pros and cons of the Acura nav versus the Z1.
  5. A friend of mine is a Pioneer sales rep, so he said he'd call me as soon as he gets his hands on one so we can play with it a little. Pioneer doesn't even tell the sales reps for certain when the first units will ship.
  6. I tried searching for the same thing a couple weeks ago and couldn't find it. Try searching for the model number of the 7000 tuner. This thread is the only one that comes up. Give the guy a break. The phpBBB search engine sucks.
  7. Nice looking install. I've been thinking about picking up a G35 myself. I have to ask why two navis though? Did you look at the AVH-P6800DVD? It would have been a lot cheaper with everything the Z1 has but the HDD library and the navi.
  8. Does anyone know the maximum number of IP bus devices the Z1 can support? Maybe it's in the manual, but I sure can't find it, and I've been searching the web for an hour, finding nothing. I already have 2 IP bus devices, and somebody told me Pioneer head units only support 2 IP bus devices daisy chained, so I want to make sure that isn't right before I waste money on the TV tuner.

Well, I'm no expert or certified installer, but I am an electrical engineer and amateur audiophile, and I have installed several fairly high end systems for my friends, including 5 with Avic-Z1s. The biggest issue I've had with the Z1 is the low preamp output voltage. You have to turn the amp gain up very high to get any volume, and that creates hell with the noise floor and S/N ratio. There is an easy fix though, as mentioned a couple posts ago--install a line driver. I've used the Audiocontrol EQL installed very close to the Z1. This drives the preamp voltage up to 13 volts and lets you
  10. Thanks for the help guys. I'll relay the info to my friend.
  11. Slyk, It sounds like the policy where you are actually makes sense. When I got my ticket, the only reason I was going a little faster than the limit was I was trying to get around a semi truck so I could exit off the interstate. I saw the cop, so there's no way I would have been speeding excessively. I never dreamed he'd give me a ticket for 3 over. That jackass cost me $187.50. In my state, they set it up to make it near impossible to fight. If you go to court and lose, they charge another 100 bucks of clerical costs, and they only report 10 MPH or higher over the limit as a m
  12. Isn't there a hack where you put a resistor in it to fool the Inno into thinking it's always in the car cradle? I thought I'd read that somewhere. I've been thinking of picking one of these things up myself now that they're so cheap. I have a Nexus now, and it's a real piece o crap. I would have never bought it if I knew it had to be in the cradle to receive XM programming.
  13. A friend of mine was asking where to find the reverse and speed sense in a 2004 Dodge RAM 1500 pickup. I can find 2002, 2005, 2006, etc., but no 04. Anyone know where to find these?
  14. You might be able to get the steering wheel controls working. I've never messed with the G class, so I'm not sure if the controls are CAN bus, but the SWI-CAN from Pac-audio along with an SWI-PS works for other Mercedes cars. You might want to check the Benz forums to see if anybody has used those with a G class. As far as the price, did that include some kind of custom dash kit, amps, speakers? $4000 seems very high, considering everything you listed even at full retail would be like $2700.
  15. It's just an non-compatible resolution. My cousin has a $500 screen in his truck, and the menus and nav screen look like crap too. I don't think there's much you can do about it unless you want to get into installing video scalers and spending buckets of money.
