Assuming the audio system is stock; There is no radio replacement harness, it's an amplified system, with a data-based amp turn on, controlled through MOST. What buttons on the steering wheel were they trying to use for the VR? Not all of the buttons share the same CANbus wires, so it made need a second SWI-PS. If it's buttons for factory bluetooth, then they probably communicate with the bluetooth module, and not the radio.

I believe you will have to put the MSN Direct tuner in between the HD radio module, and the head unit.

Is it a BlackBerry or other smartphone? If it's a Blackberry, then it's in the phone, not the unit. You will need to change the setting in the phone, delete (not just disconnect) the phone from the BT memory, and re-pair to correct the issue. VR works beautifully, if the mic is in the correct place, and if you speak correctly. You don't have to talk like a robot, just make sure that you annunciate. Every complaint I get about the VR not working, is typically due to the user speaking a little TOO naturally.

Above the steering column is usually just fine. Typically works just as well as mounting it by the rearview mirror, and in some cases, much better.

I have personally installed a Z110, with that exact cage, in that exact same dash kit (Metra 99-9011, you didn't list a year), in a different model car. If nothing else, yes the Z110 will fit fine in that cage.
