  1. I was following the other post from the guy who had the same problem....i can't give you details, cause I didn't have this problem, even though my N2 is a refurb....my guess is that you do have to (carefully) disassemble the outer case on your unit, and somewhere on the circuit board there will be 2 points labeled R197...the bottom line, it seems, is that the points exist, they just are not always directly under that hole (for whatever reason)....if you do this and the points are non-existent, than you prob. have another model in an N2's case
  2. i want the k40 detector and jammer....its practically undetectable in your car, the detectors are in the license plate frames they give you.....plus k40 will pay for any tickets you get while the system is in your car...
  3. ya, it's pretty obvious the prob is isolated with the n2 since the same prob occured in each of 2 cars it was in, as long as no other equipment was transferred with it...i have an N2, and never have had a prob like this....i would contact pioneer about it...even if the ACC lead is not shutting down the N2 when the car is off, you could probably leave the unit on all night without the battery dying, so long as no sound is not coming from the speakers.... you could try laying down the $$$ and buying an Optima dry cell battery for the car, which are top of the line, as to be sure its your battery
  4. the XDV-P6 should be capable of reading any format that any AVIC can read...Double check with pioneers website...for an MSRP of 499, that changer should be able to read all the formats you can put in there and make you breakfast....if you want the same interface you get with a CD, then buy a dual layer dvd burner like i did on ebay for about 70 bux shipped, burn all your mp3's on a dual layer DVD-R, and screw the ipod...the drawback then is that you can't have the nav disc and your mp3 disc in at the same time...or you can get really exotic, and buy the XDV-P6, burn dual layer dvd's, and you w
  5. just like 'blackbox' makers, or 'glass pipe' (bong) makers know what you are going to be using there product for, they can't exactly advertise it....they just give you the capabilities, and make it so its not too difficult for the consumer to do if thats their intention....moving a wire and grounding it from an installers point of view is not exactly rocket science
  6. your thinkin about gettin rid of the ipod all together and just using mp3 discs with the 6 disc, huh? I thought of that, only prob is the mp3 functionality is just as slow if not slower as using the ipod. Everytime I try to scroll through the list of songs on my N2 with an mp3 disc, there is a delay to go from 1 list of songs on the screen to the next...my plan was to use a dual layer dvd burner, and put my whole library on a disc as mp3 data...dual layer dvd's can hold 8.5 gigs...but once again, scrolling is slow
  7. Is it possible to customize the vehicle dynamics gauges on an N2? (or any model for that matter)
  8. so you have R197? thats a good sign i suppose...there should be 2 contacts that are very, very close together....a grain of rice would prob touch both of them if you laid one in between vertically....bright side is this, if you use a circuit writer pen, you can prob. clean up the ink if you try to connect the points and they are not the correct ones...the downside: you may fry your unit if the connection causes a short of some kind....your call
  9. 3 people voting for me to slow down...story of my life... you are preaching to the choir...I have a type A personality, always moving and in the next moment, so i speed subconciously, don't even realize it...besides that, my speeding is not in excess: 50's in 35's, 75's in 65's, and those speed limits are too conservative for me, regardless of what 'the man' says...the vehicle dynamics is helping a bit on my avic though, gives me another speedometer in front of my face as a reminder to let off the gas
  10. i know this is an avic-devoted forum, but does anyone have any feedback/advice on radar detectors they would care to share?
  11. K, so I have a lead foot, and I don't think that will ever change, even though everybody tells me to slow down...bottom line is I am getting to many tickets!! been thinking about getting a K40 radar detector and diffuser for my truck....how awesome would it be if pioneer made an accessory for the avic's that is a radar detector? so a little icon on your screen would pop up and warn you when you are getting clocked? i think we should formally present the idea to pioneer's HR or PR office....

    new pic

did you try sliding a hot razor blade under the pioneer sticker as well to see if there are other access points to see other contacts on the main board...it could be anyones guess why you don't have the correctly labeled R197 points...its a refurb, so maybe you have an n3 case around your n2 or something of that nature, or its a model that was initially manufactured to be used somewhere outside the U.S....if you look under all the stickers and don't find the R197 contacts, then i'm stumped
  13. completely proper grammar is not neccasary, but please use coherent english when posting....use those little things called periods and commas, and try not to sound so frantic in your posts....I am trying to understand your probs and offer solutions, but following your posts are giving me a bit of a headache....one question per sentence, slow down....
  14. read the other posts under hacks/mods in the n2 section...its not as easy as grounding the parking brake...you have to either solder 2 points together, or take the safer route, and use a 'circuit writer' pen, which they sell at radio shack, which you can use to 'draw' a line with conductive ink between the 2 points; no heat involved, much less chance of botching the mod....look at past threads on how and where to find the 2 contacts
  15. i need to control the ipod directly cause the interface sucks!!! it takes about 3-5 mins to get to any band that starts with 'L' or 'O', etc...at least on my N2, which is now considered an older model. my method works with the cd-ib100, i don't think it works with the cd-i200, and i dont think it works with 1st or 2nd gen. model ipods (the old skool ones) the mp3 interface is so much better, i might just scratch the whole ipod deal and stick to mp3 format...
  16. what would happen if i plugged it into my N2? Like all models, I have an ip-bus port, so it would fit...would my HU just refuse to acknowledge that the ipod is connected?
  17. whats the difference, besides the price, and the fact you don't need to mount the cd-ib100 box, of these two adapters?
  18. don't sugar coat, shoot me straight; I admire honesty
  19. from the pic, it seems like you can't see the gas or other gauges very well, but from the drivers perspective it doesnt really get in the way, so I won't run outta gas and reachin through the steering wheel is not the best idea while driving, but when your not movin, you can reach through and scroll on the ipod directly...wish pioneer just made the interface better
  20. you don't need any soldering....all this sounds like a helluvalotta trouble to bypass it when instead of using solder you can go to radioshack (or their website) and by a circuit writer pen, and play connect the dots...as easy as just like a white out pen, but conductive....all these switches, methods and what not, sounds like we are trying to reinvent the wheel
  21. heres a thought for those of you that have the cd-ib100 and want to dock your ipod visibly in your car....i ran the cord under the trim in my steering column (a tight fit), removed the white housing on the ipod adapter, then the metal insulating box, cause i needed the wires to really flex as there was not nearly enough depth under the trim for it the way it was...i was just gonna leave the ipod plug in exposed out of the trim and drop my ipod directly onto it, but the connection wasnt enough, and the music would turn off if i came to a sudden stop or hit a bump....not gonna work for me....so
  22. i live in Thousand oaks, born up in SFV, so i know the area well...my info. and knowledge is free, but my time is limitied; so I figure 50 bux for my time and I will meet with you to bypass your units if you want...keep in mind, i own an N2, so I would be bypassing based on the techniques posted on this forum, but I am pretty tech savvy and should not encounter any probs (especially since my unit is more difficult to bypass, as there is a small solder job involved)...take it or leave it...
  23. nope, bought the info on ebay for 5 bux, then spread the wealth for free, the way it should be
