1. With a broadband wireless connection and something like a Slingbox you could actually stream CNN live... I did it for a few hours until I found out Verizon gets very, very angry if you stream anything on their "unlimited" service. I'm switching to Sprint and am putting my laptop back in the car with a 7 inch touch screen so I can do exactly that. I will have cable in my car! I can even get the HD channels, not in HD of course but I can still see 'em. Oh, DO NOT BUY LOCATIONFREEFROM SONY... unless you have a PSP. There are so many problems with the box but the three major, crippling
2. Regardless of whether he is real or not I would never deal with him because he hasn't even bothered to come back and reply. If he isn't willing to answer your questions BEFORE he has your money what makes you think he'll answer them AFTER he has your money?
3. I'm sorry dude but I just couldn't get through your post; it hurts my brain-muscle. It's the web so I expect a few spelling errors and slightly sloppy grammar but if you can't even be bothered to use somewhat proper spelling and grammar then why should I be bothered to read what you wrote? If you don't speak American or English as your native language that is one thing but "IM-speak" just doesn't cut it when you're not on a mobile device. It's incredibly rude as well as you are telling us your time is more important than ours. I would suggest that you, at the least, use the spell c
4. 16,327 digits. I use Mathematica for stuff I can't count on my fingers.
5. LOL, I actually did think about the 0... I'm a geek.
6. Just out of curiosity I did the math and the total number of play lists I would have to make given 5000 songs is... = 114944665381148752300202255048022168212763992967253582475507244603663422062541 176689806810872278031391713735632781816898280440438658120326502063951583115025 736673422452461877580794799152751846063350384390820806992017227967723647318295 616588346595777253685838075371879632912891725521554164152266261317542134741348 256816872883128066302445294696996788862112360351645049900818643026724413523574 3563514941496074889160334089152584065203892625713769701693016240989226141
7. 1. Saying, "Just use play lists." is like saying, "Got your eye stabbed out with a rusty fork? That's OK, just use the other eye." And I do use play lists, the built in ones, they are called Genres and Artists. I should not need nor do I want to sit down and build play lists for every single thing I ever want to maybe possibly might listen to together with other stuff. Lets see, I have over 5,000 songs on my iPod how many permutations is that... about a googolplex, I'll get right on that. Don't make crappy interfaces, how hard is that? 6. Stop whining about my whining. Irre
8. Search is your friend but here's a quick run down: 1) Painfully slow iPod interface with a search feature that forgets where you're at if you leave it a lone for a second or two. 2) Sirius radio support an after thought. Why aren't all of the data fields for a channel displayed all at once? i.e. Channel Number, Channel Name, Song Artist, Song Title, Album Name, Song Date? Why instead is there a huge, useless Sirius logo? 3) Inability to copy MP3's to hard drive. 4) Inability to even PLAY MP3's from a data DVD disk. 5) Poor quality proprietary audio codec (ATRAC) used i
9. This is just another example of the horrible project managment on the Z1. The moron that ran this project should be keelhauled until they learn to hire intelligent, common sense using, programmers and interface designers. The Z1's interface looks like an after thought it's so ugly. And from all the amazingly stupid interface screwups you can tell they did zero realworld testing of the Z1. Over all I'm extreamly disappointed in the Z1 and would NOT recommend it and in fact have warned off several of my friends from buying one.
10. Well, I've learned my leason and won't be buying any more Pioneer anythings unless they stop the bull**** and hire someone that actually knows how to program to fix all of the horrible interface problems.
11.
Also, Sirius tends to use DJs a bit more than XM, and honestly I dont like listening to DJs anymore.
I have to agree with you there. I really wish the DJ's would just shut up and play the music. If I'm listening to a music channel I want to hear music, not talk. They are REALLY bad about it on the hip hop stations. Sometimes they go on for minutes at a time. I think the DJ's think of it more as an entertainment channel but I just want them to shut the fuck up and play the music. That being said Sirius is the only choice for Stern fans.
12. Mine locks up in under a min while sitting in my garage. All I have to do is start changing radio functions.
13. Just to clarify for people that might be all excited about this: You can't control your iPod THROUGH the Z1 with this set up. You have to use the iPod itself.
14.
I have seen and been party to class action lawsuits for less.
[off topic] Great, so you're one of the people destroying the American legal system with pointless litigation simply so lawyers can get rich and people with actual damages get a coupon for 25 cents off their next purchase? Thanks ;) [/off topic]
15. No worries bdmpastx. It just annoyed me that you hadn't bothered to read the posts in the thread in which you were commenting; pet peeve of mine.
I wonder if the HDD lockup issues that you guys are running into are HDD firmware related and or possibly head unit firmware related. Companies like the one I work for, do some things like that to ensure that people stick to our proprietary hardware. If the unit is making calls (procedures) to the firmware on the HDD and the HDD cannot answer them, the unit will stop functioning.[/qu
16. Yeah, that's exactly what I get. I think the next test is to buy the exact same drive as is in the Z1. If that drive works then we can assume that there is something looking at the drive model or maybe it's a hack using some weird routine or value stored on the drive. If that drive DOESN'T work then we know we just aren't copying the drive correctly. You should go back and read the test that a lot of us have already done to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
17. So how did it go? I'd love to be able to put in a backup drive so I don't have to worry about messing up my original drive. I could actually get back to hacking the AC3 file format on the Z1 too... this iPod interface is killing me.
18.
hmmm...why would Pioneer use a piece of software from a competitor? Or better yet, why would Sony allow a competitor use it's software. Just because the file has an extention that is the same as another, doesn't mean that it is the same file structure within that file. I wish that I had a spare HDD to play with this. Does anyone here do HDD emulation?
Thank you for treating my posts and actual research as if I had done nothing. Your baseless assumptions and uninformed opinions on how things SHOULD be are clearly more relevant than my actual research. Ke
19. While it is technically feasible to do the old hard drive swap trick to get an unlocked drive for free it's virtually impossible to do because you would need a laptop drive cable that breaks the power out so you can supply a constant current. All the work that you would have to do including buying the equipment would be worth well over the $50. In addition the Z1 will not boot up if the hard drive cover is not installed. You could probably easily fix that so it always thinks it's always closed but, again, more trouble than it's worth. And finally, the method you describe to unlock
20. I can only speak to the Bose system put in the 350Z's. The "upgraded" system consists of super cheap paper speakers and a horribly noisy amp. The system is so bad it has prompted cries for a class action lawsuit among buyers.
21. LOL, no worries. I just thought you guys had figured out something cool when I wasn't looking.
22. First off I'm really sorry you got ripped off and bought the Bose "upgrade." I also have a 350Z, I have a Daytona Blue 2005. I was lucky enough to know that $1,400 was a lot of money and I could do a lot better job just taking the car to an aftermarket shop and getting the stereo replaced. That Bose system is such a total piece of garbage and you don't want crappy $2 paper speakers (what you got with your $1400 Blose "upgrade") destroying the sound quality of your $2,000 Z1. The Blose speakers are so bad they ONLY sound ok with the Blose system. Which in turn is specifically designed
23.
You can then reselect ipod on the Z1, and use the controls on the ipod, through the onscreen display for me sometimes does not show all information correctly.
I think you mean "though" not "through". Your mistypeing had me thinking there was a work around that allowed you to use the iPod's controls on the Z1's screen. Then you mentioned using video and you completely threw me for a loop. So, to clarify, You CAN NOT use the built in iPod menu of the Z1 to play videos. You must use an A/V adapter cable and the iPod's controls. What you were
24.
It's frustrating how may companies don't really care much about what they do. If you're going to design something as capable as the Z1, don't you think you'd want to make sure anything else you design to connect to it would not diminish the user experience, like the iPod interface or even the SIRIUS implementation (why couldn't they just mirror the XM interface, which works better). ... If the Pioneers and Sonys of the world would develop that same commitment, things would be much better.
I couldn't agree more. I have been saying this same thing over
25. It's just a video cable. You can't control the iPod through the radio using this. You would have to mount your iPod somewhere that you could control it and use the iPod's controls and screen to pick the music/videos to play.
