  1. so that we are all on the same page here.. are we talking 500x240 PIXELS or MILLIMETERS... pixels didnt work for me and looked AWEFUL
  2. US freq. will go as low as 87.7... TV channel 6 broadcasts audio on that freq. around my area
  3. agree... leave it alone unless u are having a problem as for soldering, practice makes perfect... one thing ill recommend is to not twist the bare leads together in parallel, in other words, you want to twist them together such that it looks like one continuous wire... then just heat that up with the tip of the soldering iron and let the solder flow
  4. soldering wire is real easy and in the end you are so glad that you took the extra 10 minutes todo it... your connections are tight and secure and you dont have to worry about things slipping apart/loose connections/etc... plus it looks ALOT cleaner i should take a picture of what my old alpine harness looked like with all the male/female disconnects... man that thing was a NIGHTMARE to work with when i had to remove the deck id def recommend soldering your connections 10 hours sounds about right... i took my time and had to run some new RCA's and speaker wire... the in-car time f
  5. i guess ill parallel to cell phones in an airplane... 99% of the time they really wont do any harm... but its that 1% that makes you do otherwise... maybe its just me?
  6. sounds like u had an eventful day... as for people killing their batteries... if u disconnect the negative lead on the battery like you are supposed to then you wouldnt be killing you car as for loose leads... do people not soldier their deck harnesses to the factory adapters? i cant imagine doing crimps or taps for something like this... the only thing i 'half assed' was the VSS... i simply slid the end of the wire pioneer gives you into the female end of the plug the VSS was connected to what kind of phone are you trying to pair with the bluetooth?
  7. well... it could be a ground issue if u put the car in ACC and say turn your headlights on, does the sound change? do you get any engine whine when you drive? i had a small issue like yours when i first got everything running... turned out to be an issue with my HPF on one of my amps
  8. all ordered... just waiting on the backorder... i couldnt use the coupon for some reason, but i made note of it in my addtl comments on the order (not like it will make any diff) i wonder how long it will take for CF to get another batch in
  9. ive had pleasant results so far... ive tested it so far on 4 routes i take most regularly and its spot on for me... the only discrepancies ive noticed are where a neighborhood has two entrances, it might pick one over another in favor of distance ill have some more traveling todo later this month so ill get to put it to use more so then
  10. What are any of you owners doing to protect your screens? Is it worth gettin a protective film off ebay or are the screens pretty resilient to normal use usually for any LCD protect i own i get a cover or protector for... ipod/treo/etc
  11. i guess my first step would be to head to the metra website and see what they have in the way of a dash kit now.. another question would be do u have an aftermarket deck already installed? im assuming NO since you are inquiring about the difficulty of install... i dont mind helpin ya out with questions
  12. Umm what in the world is a NECO cougar? NECO... New Edge Cougar... models 99-02.. we reside @ www.newcougar.org
  13. well, installing the sensor helps regardless the manual states that if u have a video problem to try shutting off ipod charging
  14. well u typically get 14V b/c the alternator is charging the battery and as such youll read a higher voltage... with the car off what you've measured seems normal to me... and yes.. forseeably if you had the dome lights on and the radio on for a good period of time u could drain the battery down... but as u tested the next day the battery level was just fine personally i think you are good... FYI the deck has a vehicle diag that will tell you the battery voltage
  15. For a mercury cougar 99-02 it is already behind the stock radio... it is in a wiring harness of its own consisting of the VSS wire and a black ground... i just slid the pioneer wire into the female end... worked great!
  16. use "DVD Shrink" on a PC to copy and 'backup' DVD's nuff said
  17. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... 45,00.html http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... 96,00.html i cant find any diffs other than maybe some model support... neither support the D3
  18. and as a follow up, i didnt mean to attack you... i just commented on the lack of effort to do some research as shown by your first post and how it fell in line with most of the other posts i see around here
  19. im not claiming to be a know-it-all... im just saying and agreeing with many others that information here is expected to be spoon-fed now, if u had came here and stated you looked for a dash kit and talked to some people and did some work for-yourself then it would be a different story... u now say u were at 3 different sites... knowing that would have helped and again, as for difficulty... its such an irellevent (sp?) term... personally i think tearing my dash apart is easy, just time consuming
  20. i guess ill have to bite the bullet... any coupons or codes for CF?
  21. What does difficult mean to you? I was told it wouldnt fit into a mercury cougar (by Crutchfield/CC/BB)... I googled to see if a double din adapter existed... it did... therefore it fits then i asked on my car forums regarding some dash bezel issues and got more answers there ive only been a member on this site for 4 days and i honestly cannot believe how LAZY people are... you are installing an expensive aftermarket radio for christs sake... im sure you did some research b4 you bought it as to the features and such... why cant you do some research on the install as well... st
  22. agreed... i did the 500x240 and it lookslike crap on the D3... it asks if i want to center or repeat it, and i choose center, it looks all squished... obviously 500x240 isnt the correct resolution can someone confirm the actual resolution to be used please
  23. Hey all... i vaguely introduced myself in my install thread in the N series section (although I installed a D3... posting in the wrong section... man im a newb)... but i digress I installed it in a 2000 mercury cougar and it was pretty easy... i used the stickie here for the video bypass involving the mute wire relocation and the grounding of that to the e-brake wire (how did anyone figure that one out anyways?!) if anyone has questions specific to the cougar install please feel free to ask! im patiently waiting for the bluetooth module to be had (i cant find it available ANYWHERE
  24. agreed... Frequency Modulation (FM) is FM... the only difference is the frequency stepping i know on my previous alpine deck had the ability to change the 'area' in which you were operating... id assume a unit like this would have a similar option
